Always done what has been asked of him and has been a little hard done by.

How? Explain this.

Are you saying Ernie should have dropped one of his 2 CBs to give him a chance?

yes... maybe not this year, but certainly last year when we leaked 50+ goals.

Explained.

That of course assumes that centre backs are solely responsible for a teams defense.

How many as a centre back and how many as a makeshift fullback?

Nearly all as a fullback but as we needed him there the chances of dropping a Centre back to give him a run in the middle was pretty much nil.

And there is lies the point. He was not hard done by. He needed to be better than the incumbents and was not.

But we did have Siggie out at various times last season (can't recall Durante being out but he might have been given the high turnover in the back line at the end of the season)

Durante missed the first round game, Siggie missed rounds 24 & 27.

Boxall started at CB in round 1 and 24

Played pretty well in that first game. Got an assist too.

You can't compare our team last season to our team this season.

Right, so how can the statement be made that he is hard done by then? When we were ratshark, there was an opportunity to show he was better than the incumbents. As mentioned above and jogged my memory, he had a good game round 1. What happended after that at training where he could not show he was better than Durante and Sigmund? Admittedly he got shoe horned into RB but this is not one season we are talking about. The season prior under Ricki and Greenie we were not flash either.

His timing is unlucky but he is not hard done by. Hard done by would be if the manager went to him and said 'I don't give two sharks what you produce this year, you are not going to start' He was (for all we know) afforded the same opportunities as everyone else.

I feel like if Boxall goes we could probably bring him back here when we need him if we are offering first team football. I think he would like to be playing here but I if he has an opportunity to play first team football elsewhere that's probably the right decision for him. I'm getting increasingly concerned over the talk of Boyd leaving . We've put a lot of time in developing him if we lost him just as he is becoming full package it'd be very disappointing. Will he still qualify for youth marquee? Is that still a thing? Keeping him a little longer is important imo. If given the opportunity I reckon he could take Krishna's spot soon.

On the other hand the two lads in the 'Nix reserves also seem to be progressing nicely, and the more Kiwis playing professional football the better.

But yes, would like to see Boyd rip up the A-league for us a little first. At the moment in my opinion he's gone past Louis in his ability, partly of course because Louis has been doing a job for us at right back.

Also- yes I think there is some justification for considering the penalty failed as soon as the ball stops travelling forward. However, I'm very glad that it hasn't this season.

He looks pretty good and I think he'll get his chance soon. If Burnsy finishes the season like he has started I suspect we will get a transfer fee for him in June/July and there will be no second year.

Yep, if we got a transfer fee for Brocks, think what we might get for a not-a-striker who actually scores lots of goals!

I would be shocked if Boyd stayed at this point. There is obviously something going on there. MLS or similar seems a likely destination to me.

Neither was Boyens TBF. There is a big spread in ability (and wages) in the MLS so someone might try pick him up on the cheap. Having a US passport will help him.

They have larger squads, is still salary capped and by the sounds of it wont be considered an international player.

What actual evidence is there that Boyd wants to go?  Seems to be all gossip at the moment.

Or are people just speculating he'll go because they think he's too good to sit on the Nix bench?

or too good for the ASB according to Merrick.

1. Contract running out

2. Merrick not playing him except in Adelaide - didn't get a look into to start even when Krishna/Burns were unavailable so likely looking at other options

3. Rumours popping up from multiple people; smoke, fire etc.

And he is easily good enough for a squad place in an MLS team; I think it's more likely he would go to a 2nd-tier American side and work his way up though.

Isn't a more likely option that he wants to head to Europe trial in a place like PEC and hope he picks up a contract? Easier to organize this and negotiate without having a contract here. Also the pheonix would want a transfer fee

How so? Burns and Krishna don't warrant being dropped so that's why he's not playing.

players can negotiate with other clubs when they have less than 6 months left on their contract like Smeltz and Rojas have done previously.

Except when Burns and Krishna weren't available in our last two games we got Kenny and Brockie...

Something like 25% of players in the MLS earn less than 50k US, if Boyd was to head over there he would most likely be taking a pay cut. If he could find a team that he could be a starter with, then it would be a good move for him but he could get first team action at another A-League team easy enough already.

I don't think he could get first team action in another A League team now - surely he's not good enough to justify taking up an import slot (yet)

Seen the imports the Jets and CCM have recruited? He would walk into both their sides atm. I would even throw the Roar in there, his style would fit in nicely there.

But don't they sign those imports thinking they'll do better than that? I mean, yeah, he's better than some of the imports in the league but I'd think clubs would be aiming higher (even if that's not what they end up with)

Andrew Hoole from the Jest has signed a contract with another A-League club for next season. Has Ernie found our Not a Striker?
