Here is just the Wellington Phoenix games, Green is Saturday, Red is Sunday and Yellow is Wednesday home games. Light green is Saturday in Auckland

So what the hell is the position with games at Westpac? there are 12 listed above but the Phoenix are talking about 10 minimum, so which games are the ones under threat? Not only can I not renew my membership due to the crap systems used, but I don't even know what the games are and which ones I can make.

Still no word about this and what games are getting taken away and to where. When asked on twitter last week this was their response.

Does anyone know who the promoter of the Hawkes Bay game a couple of years ago was?  Interesting that was one season only when there were 10k there

If that's correct that implies that one of the 12 games listed as at Westpac in fact ISNT at Westpac, and they know that now! Otherwise they could have said "at least 11" !!!

Actually not positive about that, as a week early they got their count wrong and only had 12 games not the 13 we have (one already in Auckland). So they talk about 10 at Westpac, 1 to be confirmed and 1 in Auckland, never got the confirmation from them what was happening with the other 1 game they didn't count....

I wonder how many others, like me, are waiting to find out how many more are out of Wellington, before they buy? Not every ST holder travels around NZ and they don't get it cheaper.

I thought with the recent breakfast thing, the club might have drawn a line in the sand and kept the games here and made a concerted effort to get Wellingtonians back to the games.

I await the clubs response. Thus far silence is not golden.

Im more waiting to see if they are likely to be any better than last year.  The financial commitment is high with travel to and from matches and food/drink.  It needs to be worth it for me.

This is me. more than 2 games out of town and I won't be getting a season membership in protest. Will still go, but will buy $10 tickets instead.

I guess upon reflection, I enjoyed the trip to Hamilton, the one to New Plymouth and the one to Mt Smart but North harbour does my head in. I would prefer all our games in Wellington but should we have to travel, New Plymouth or Napier would be brilliant for me as a driver or as a passenger on a Fever Bus.

PS: Those $10 tickets. Buy a normal ticket for the first game and $10 tickets for the rest and you save heaps. However, do we get a discount on the car parking this season and if so is it still $15 or has it gone back to $10 as it once was??

Sundays at 7pm is such a bad time..that alone would stop me buying a season ticket. All stops 9.00pm train back up the coast and bed by 10.15pm at earliest with work next day...meh. Pick 6 is better option.

Ive heard the first game Sunday October 8th is the one they are taking to Auckland.

Is that correct?

Would be rather dramatic to move a game with 16 days notice

and also the first game. That would not go down well with Wellington based fans. Sounds like fake news.

i hope it is fake news, i have talked some mates into coming on the 8th. they do not usually want to come to games and probably will not come any other time during the season if this one is moved.

They are not moving the first game, there is a lot of planning gone into the first one and certain events on. The first game will be at Westpac.

Doesn't the term fake news actually mean real news? At least that's how Trump seems to use it.

Yeah, it's one of those terms stolen to mean the opposite of what it originally did. When "fake news" hit the headlines, it originally meant websites that pretended to be news sites but just told lies - imagine the Onion but actually trying to hoodwink people rather than be funny.

Phoenix-in-negotiations-to-play-home-game-in-Canberra-this-season

The Wellington Phoenix are in talks to play a 'home' match in Canberra this season.

The fixture has not been confirmed, despite the start of the season being only 10 days away, but it would see the Phoenix take on the Western Sydney Wanderers at GIO Stadium on January 13.

Negotiations are understood to have been ongoing for some time without an agreement being reached. As such, Phoenix general manager David Dome was unable to comment on the matter.

The match is currently listed on the Phoenix website to be played at Westpac Stadium, but the stadium's website does not have a listing for that day.

A Phoenix spokesman said the venue for the fixture was yet to be finalised.

"Negotiations have happened with several venues, but nothing has been confirmed," he said.

If it was not played in Canberra, it would be played in New Zealand rather than another Australian venue.

When the Hyundai A-League draw was announced in June, the club said "at least 10 games will be played at Westpac Stadium this season, with 1 or 2 home games to be hosted elsewhere, the specific dates of which are yet to be confirmed".

.

Their match against the Newcastle Jets on March 17 will be played at QBE Stadium in Auckland, but fans, who pay up to $299 for season tickets for the 13 home games this season, would have expected the one or two other home-away-from-home games to at least be within New Zealand. The club has given no indication that the fixture could be played in Australia.

The match also falls at the end of a busy week for the Phoenix, with a game against Melbourne City at AAMI Park in Melbourne on January 6 and a home game at Westpac Stadium against Melbourne Victory on January 10.

Ideally, from a football point of view, the team would want to stay at home for that third game in seven days. They wouldn't want to add travel and the heat of a Canberra summer to the equation.

Staging the game in Canberra would be lucrative for the club, with one of their premium corporate partners, Singapore Airlines, keen to promote their direct flights from Wellington to Canberra.

Canberra's Capital Football would also want to keep football in the limelight as they work with the consortium hoping to make a successful bid for inclusion in the A-League when expansion comes back on the table in the 2019-20 season.

The Central Coast Mariners played two games in Canberra last season, including a 2-0 loss to the Phoenix in front of 5497 fans at GIO Stadium in November, but decided against extending the deal.

That left Canberra officials searching for another A-League team to bring games to Australia's capital. They were understood to be interested in getting a Sydney team to play in the hope of boosting interest, which the Phoenix could provide with the game against the Wanderers.

Capital Football (Canberra) chief executive Phil Brown told ABC Radio in May that the Phoenix were the most likely option to replace the Mariners in bringing games to Canberra.

Last year's game between Wellington and the Central Coast was a Mariners home game, but it was also used to help launch that Singapore Airlines flight between Wellington and Canberra, as well as the two capital cities becoming sister cities.

At the time, Australian Capital Territory chief minister Andrew Barr said he hoped it would lead to more matches in the future.

"I'm delighted that the Central Coast Mariners have partnered with the ACT Government to bring this clash to Canberra, and I hope to see more A-League games in Canberra over the coming years," he said.

If this season's Phoenix match went ahead, it would strengthen their ties with the football community in Canberra as they look to solidify their relationship with the Canberra United W-League team.

There have been talks to partner with the club to offer a pathway for Kiwi women's footballers to the W-League.

Eff sake the club is a shambles sometimes, the people that will pay the price for this are the WSW fans who have already booked flights and accommodation for January. Not a great way to attract more away fans to Welly.

I have a suggestion.  Why dont the New Zealand Phoenix play a game in Wellington?  Might get a crowd there.

Happens in England as well with Sky moving fixtures at shortish notice to suit their broadcast needs e.g. moving Arsenal vs Liverpool to Christmas Eve.

Statement from the Spirit of Shankly group, Thursday:"[We] have been made aware that Liverpool’s away fixture against Arsenal,       scheduled for Saturday 23rd December, is being considered for a move to Christmas Eve [for live TV transmission on Sky].

"It is our understanding that Arsenal have been asked if they can staff such a fixture and the Metropolitan police have been approached for their view. Changing the date to Christmas Eve would have untold impact on staff and supporters, particularly away fans.

"Depending on kick-off time, and depleted public transport links, the majority of travelling Liverpool supporters would not get home until the early hours of Christmas morning.

"SOS are contacting relevant personnel to put forward our case that it is completely unacceptable to expect fans to travel for a match at this time.

"The suggestion of such a change again shows zero regard for supporters – much like the corresponding fixture where Euston station was closed over Bank Holiday weekend.”

Tickets? Tickets? We talkin’ about tickets?

So AWs on the 11th, Nix on the 12th. Wonder if NZF will let the Nix sell $10 tickets at the AWs game to try and get a bumper crowd at the game? Would love for the Nix to offer free entry with AWs tickets but that would be a huge loss for the club.
