2017/18 Phoenix Preseason

That Sept game vs Newcastle is going to be interesting, Newcastle are still short a couple of players from their final squad but are further into their pre-season than us.

I'll be coming back from Auckland after the AW game so I won't make it for sure. Would have like to see some of the new recruits.

You'd think that with quite a large overhaul of the team and completely new coaching setup that they'd be out all the time. They usually do a couple of games simply for the publicity. There must be a few closed games against local club sides?

No and all the local football is all but finished now (just the playoffs to go) they do have the game against the Capital select  XI at Kapiti on the 2nd. They were suppose to be playing Auckland City but don't think that;s happening now.

The fact that about the half the squad is injured atm would play a part.

Can get a similarly competitive game against Teedubs without the cost of flying.

Auckland City was suppose to be home and away, with the Auckland game being played on Waiheke, Nix apparently said that the facilities weren't up to scratch, despite them being no different from KCU (and what a great away trip that would have been, Yellow Fever, 248 Crew & La Banda de pipe (or whatever the Waiheke fans call themselves)  all in one place). Instead Auckland are playing Eastern Suburbs there.

Be good to get a game against Teedubs, but the new management don't seem interested - hope this is a new strategy that works!

With respect to ACFC, why would they want to play the runners up when they can play the back to back champs in their own back yard?

I know you guys are a little bit full of yourselves but even you can see the outweighing factors in that one.

I'm with the Nix about the facilities at Onetangi Sports park - not up to stratch dosn't start to explain it.

Also, the convenience of being able to bus out there and then back to their own physios and recuperation facilities.

Yeah I suppose just 1 semi-competitive pre-season match will be sufficient.

Oh yeah, cos the other games that we're playing don't count? There's probably not enough preseason games but no need to be disingenuous about it.

Who knows what the new coaches have wanted or decided on. Fingers crossed it will be alright on the night.

I think you guys are saying a game against T-Dubs is expected? Nothing else?

8 weeks to go. I guess if the squad still has a lot of injured we can back load a couple of extra games in the last month. 

But with the injuries and (possibly) light pre-season, the first game on a hot day in Aus may be a real fitness test?

I'm expecting a game against the Jets and perhaps another Aus team, one or two against Teedubs, Capital Football XI and then the intersquad game the weekend before the season. 

I thought a game against the Jets was announced for mid Sept?

Not officially I think. But Lawrie Mckinna mentioned it on twitter.

The reality is all their games are going to be that way because they are NZ based and the top team in the land so playing ACFC or Old Farts O35 wont make much of a different in being a semi-competitive preseason game. Instead, they are choosing to play the champs and not forking out a fortune to do so.

no ones said they are playing Team Wellington, just it would be a good idea if they did

at the moment any pre season game would be good

I would think that it is more likely to be WeeNix, but no real details anywhere.

How many Miramar Cap 9 players will make the Cap Footy Selection ???
