2017/18 Phoenix Preseason

From what I've read CCM was fairly comfortable and in control in that game. Obviously the bulk of the reporting is by CCM supporters who are obviously a tad biased but it's worrying that we're so late in pre-season and haven't really done much of note.

When's the Jets game?

We also miss him, but it's time to move on.

Last Year we had the best pre season ever and had our worst start of the season. What I am concerned with is that we need to start playing our first team pretty soon. Vidosic Rossi Durante AK Krishna Paracki all on the field at once. Need to start testing our combinations.

Durante also needs to show that he is up to it and deserves his starting spot.

Agreed..not good that we are not playing our first choice team so close to season start

If we do, I wouldn't want it played in a preseason game against an A-League opponent.  I would test it against a local club side here.

No sight of Rossi since the red card at Porirua.

Is there an injury thing going on here??

He was subbed on in the second half

Rossi also had 3 months off prior to joining camp - he was used as an example of how the club has things wrong by the coach... his conditioning was poor coming in and he has had injuries. Slowly but surely may be the prudent course of action. Too important to lose to injury.

Rossi seems like he has been getting recurring injuries for a while now; best to be cautious. Seems the type that doesn't really need a pre-season to do better than every other CB in our squad anyway.

From the awful livestream on facebook i used to watch the game, there was very little to take away from the match. We were bossed for most of the game, but their lineup (especially the midfield) was a lot stronger than ours and much closer to full strength. Worryingly Kwabena Appiah looked decent against Doyle, and Galloway seemed to piss around with the ball too much instead of getting crosses in. Bout it, really

Thats a very English style of football you recommend for a Dutch coach....

Disappointing to see we wore our ugly grey kit when the Nix twitter was selling it as "Battle of the Stripe(y)s"

You actually want to see two team wearing black/yellow and Navy blue/yellow stripes?

Mate as a proud Dutchman myself I'm loving having a Dutch coach who promises stylish, attacking football, but when the ball is constantly getting played near the corner flag (as it was on the right wing), I'd rather crosses in the box than dribbling backwards then getting tackled or passing to the opposition (Galloway and Krishna were both guilty of this a number of times)

Yep the ol Phoenix tactic, get up to the opposition goal line but instead of crossing we pass it all the way back to Durante, whom could either pass back to Moss or sideways for two minutes back and forth and lose the attacking ability. Sometimes last season I thought he was our attacking midfielder with everyone passing it to him all the time.

We beat Brisbane in preseason when they had their awesome year, and Sean Lovemore looked better than 12 goal Kosta.

So, a 2 - 1 loss to the Jets, we are equal with Sydney. Good that Vidosic got a bit of game time.

I'm pretty worried about the start of this season, we seem massively under done.

DK seems to still be chopping and changing his line up, so I don't think he know what is our best side yet. The lack of goals is a worry, sounds like we created a lot of chances today but couldn't put them in the back of the net.

The Jets winner was scored by Joe Champness, he is scoring a few in pre-season. Kiwi born but has played for Aussie underage teams, he could very well be this seasons Dane Ingham.

it is a concern that they much touted news signings have yet to get much game time.  So not much positive change from last season really

Not overly worried quite yet. Paracki wasn't playing and it sounds like we dominated the 2nd half + when Vidosic came on it sounded like he was very involved in play.

It really is about time we see a proper starting 11. When are we going to see Durante and Rossi together. Paracki and mcglinchey, vidosic finkler krishna and AK All on the field. Two preseasons left right?

Vidosic still recovering from injury. Dura also doing so, just further along his recovery. I wholeheartedly disagree that Vidosic should be starting already, that's a recipe for disaster.

I'm comfortable with the preseason so far. It's the first time in ages that we have had a full squad of 23 assembled this close to the start of the League. Not only have we got a full squad, we finally have a little bit of depth and competition for places.

You can't win the League in the first few weeks.
