Must say there's been a distinct lack of press coverage to date - most seasons we have features on new signings and interviews and things but I'm really disappointed to see that there's been none of that so far. Feels like the Nix are really missing a trick.

No press conferences or training sessions for local journalists to attend, so that limits what they are able to do.

Yeah but likes of Lewis, McGarry and TAHW were announced before they left NZ. Appreciate things would have been a bit rushed before they left.

Journalists can do interviews remotely pretty bloody easily though

Dome has binned Stuff and Voerman.

Nix leaked the W-league thing to Piney the other day though so they could respond to it themselves with a press release haha

Not 100% sure. Pretty awful call from whoever made it really - the last thing a dying league needs is less press coverage.

Yipe did notice there had been an absence of AV articles lately on the Nix.

And Nelfoos is 100% correct you can't go 'stop talking' to certain journos, in the small NZ football press pool. Smacks of pettiness.

Tomer Hemed's latest Instagram story shows he is still training in the UK but Uli Davila looks like he is on the way to Australia today without his family at this stage.

Gee the little fellah is a big unit isn't he? Natralisation and a future All Black perhaps?

I'd prefer a future All White!

Interesting! And does make sense, there was an odd Twitter interaction a few days back where AV asked Piney something about the club (whether Davila was en route yet). Would be good to get some clarity around whether this is anything. Ties to home are gonna be so important this season so seems off to ostracise a media group.

Hemed also liked a comment asking if he's moving to Welly. Seems like a good sign, hopefully its just some admin to get him into Aus that's holding up the announcement.

Obviously difficult travelling to Aus or NZ at the moment with current border restrictions. I guess there is no chance someone like Hemed would be able to bring his family with him, unless they could get some kind of exemption to enter NZ do there 14 days quarantine then head over to Aus.

Must be a hard decision to leave family behind.

Why would he come to nz? Just got straight to Sydney with his family.

Also, awesome signing - really surprising.

Jason Pine and Brendan Wyatt have just started following Tomer Hemed on Instagram. I think if Wyatt is now following him that gives us the strongest link yet that he will be coming to the Nix

Tomer Hemed would be big for us. He offers more with his ability to quickly move into goal scoring positions, great heading of the ball as well as powerful shots. Would be great against teams like Sydney who struggle with clearing headers.

SHOULD BE MASSIVE!

Possible Starting Xl? (If Hemed joins us) Obviously Davila would be a bit more central than out wide.

Marinovic

Payne         TAWH         DeVere          McGarry

Rufer               Devlin

Piscopo                                                      Davila

I'd have the same 11 with some tweaks to the formation.

Marinovic

Payne TAWH DeVere McGarry

Rufer     Devlin

Ball        Piscopo

Davila
           Hemed

Davila is wasted out wide, he's better closer to goal, as a secondary striker, and more often than not dropping deep as a traditional playmaker. Ball outwide offers energy the whole way up and down the pitch, and with a tendency to move centrally, this allows our best crosser - Payne - to overlap and send balls into Hemed. The left without Libby functions as more of a traditional FB/Winger combo. Piscopo staying wider and not always looking for the overlap. If Piscopo does come inside, Davila drops deeper to cover that hole as he is so good and picking up possession in broken play and making something happen.

Latest Insta from Hemed.

Looks like he is still in the UK. But I think that maybe his comment on the pic translates to.

"Like a Phoenix"

Instagram tells me it translates to 'Like a sand chicken' but I like your version better.

I believe it actually does say "like a phoenix" in Hebrew. Can be used for the word sand and is also translated to Phoenix in some versions. Concordance #H2344), translated as 'sand' in the KJV, is interpreted as referring to the phoenix bird in the Jewish Publication Society Bible and other sources.

Agree with the rest of what you've said, but Hemed doesn't move quickly mate.

He's more of a target man, so I'd imagine he'd sit a lil further forward than Ball.

I'm still very concerned about our depth at the back.

Do we have any rumours or news of any more potential defensive signings?

Also don't think Rufer or Devlin are as capable as Matti was at screening the back four.

Ufuk Talay was pretty clear yesterday that a foreign striker is the last addition to the squad he is wanting to make before the season starts.

Not sure what I think of Sutton as a back up LB option, hopefully we don't need to use him there. Laws & TAHW can cover at DM for depth there.
