Alrighty then team, you know the drill. Given that Domey said we will be signing a couple import geezers for what I assume is to specifically replace Long Pins and Hoops, I want everybody's spurious transfer rumours for the upcoming season. The more tenuous the better.

Annual finals disappointment enthusiast.

What are the chances of signing Deklyn Wynne? Doesn't seem to be getting much of a look-in in the US, plus it'd be nice to have fullback depth on both sides

Speaking of US players. Their season finishes about the time our starts. What are the chances of getting players on loan. Some kiwis over there haven't been getting all that much game time. Thinking guys like Musa and Collier. Surely they would benefit going out on loan and playing some footy.

fark it's hard to come up with guys who would be happy with the COVID coin we'd give them. couple nice ones to get the mind racing:

Blerim Dzemaili: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/blerim-dzemaili/pr...

Quality DM, winding down the career, great experience at a top level, been through the rounds in the MLS and China already so may want to settle a bit. Would provide a great defensive balance to the attacking/roaming styles of Rufer, Devlin and Lewis.

Raúl Albentosa: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raul-albentosa/pro...

Most recently in Bulgaria, he's a big strong brutish centreback similar to DeVere and Taylor. Spent most of his time in the top three Spanish tiers and Derby County. Gives a Spanish-speaking buddy to Ulises.

Grégory Sertic: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gregory-sertic/pro...

Most recently at Marseille - for years a top-quality Ligue 1 defensive mid on the fringes of the French national team, he's fallen out of favour over the last few seasons. Only four games in Ligue 1 last season, and he was loaned out to Zurich in February. Still only 31 so may be looking to get his career back on track. We don't have a defensive-minded mid we can trust (Devlin's fantastic but naturally roams too much to hold the line) so I reckon this might be more vital than we think.

Marco Ruben: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-ruben/profil...

Cultured centre-forward who scored in his one and only appearance for Argentina in 2011, he's spent time in Spain, France, Brazil and Ukraine as well as his native country. 34 so getting on a bit, but 108 games in La Liga still looks pretty attractive. Again, provides a Spanish-speaking mate to Davila, this time as a strike partner.

why aren't the Gulley fans mentioning him? Or is he better placed in Cap Prem?

Musa as shout is good as is Wynn who could provide cover at CB and LB.

By memory, he has played more as a left sided CB than LB the last 2 - 3 years.

definitely like both of these options. even Billingsley who can cover RB, CB and up front, or Collier who is looking increasingly important in Chicago but may be tempted by guaranteed playing time

Musa is the cracking bench at Minnesota, and getting a few minutes here and there.

He has a green card I'm pretty sure.

An American fiancée. Don't see him interested in moving back home any time soon.

Edit - Think if you are looking to the US, Wynne (likely to be cut adrift by Rapids), Kyle Adams (not made one Houston squad this MLS season) or Brotherton (maybe on the radar of some MLS clubs, but maybe not), are I would think possibilities.

All younger than Musa as well.

Maybe she wants to live in NZ? If she's got an option she can make a choice!

Would think that ship has sailed after the first two stints with the Nix.

Would like to see Zwetsloot and JHS looked at by Uffie but with his being in NSW for pre-season, there isn't really a chance for anyone from the Handy Prem to trial this time around. So not expecting any more NZ based signings other than TAHW being re-signed now tbh.

With the Handy Prem starting before the A League, maybe they will just sign the bare 18 required for now.

Then if someone like Gill stays in NZ, he can watch a few live Handy Prem games and discuss with Uffie in NSW what further signings they may need as Dec 27th approaches.

Bearing in mind there is still 3 visa spots open (if Nix choose to use all 5), plus no doubt Uffie will invite a few Aussie youth prospects in to trial once they arrive in NSW next week. Apparently the SFC youth team were pretty impressive in the NSW NPL this season.

Also 3 ex Academy guys have returned to the Weenix Handy Prem team from USA/Canada. They could be worth looking at in the next few months.

What local (national league) imports are worth the chance to play pro?

Tade the only one you can count on to deliver at A-League level, David Browne too if he didn’t sign for HJK. Semmy a bolter

We need CB's, so Kaltak another bolter? I highly doubt we will sign any visa players from the Handy Prem tho

Moreira and Tade for me, in that order. Don't think anyone else offers anything that you can't get domestically (as in both NZ and Aus).

Whats Tom Doyle up to?

We have currently have 1 player who can play LB (McGarry) and 2 players who can play CB (Payne & TAHW). I've read we are targeting Devere, McGing and potentially an import but unless we get an import who covers LB we are still a bit light there, and we probably need all three to come off to have enough depth at CB.

I know a few here thought Doyle wasn't up to a-league standard but the standard will probably slip a bit in the next season, and as a known quantity in a position we need cover in I think he could be worth a shout.

Talay wants to play out from the back. Doyle doesn’t fit that.

Joshua Laws is rumoured to be signing. He is left footed so could cover left back, centre back as well as left DM I guess.

get Parkhouse back and don't play him as a right winger

Seems like a decent option. Didn't have a great run at Charlton, but seems appreciated by fans of his old clubs.

Very good if true. Full international and should be able to score goals in the a league considering the level he's played at.

Looks good with his head, not sure we have anyone who can deliver a quality cross tho

over 5 years ago · edited over 5 years ago · History

lord if we get him and a  centre back of the same pedigree we will win the league

Hemed and Laws have the same agents. So for some totally baseless speculation, Matthew Connolly. Off contract and has the same agents.

Wellington Phoenix swoop for former Brighton and Hove Albion striker Tomer Hemed

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/12...

Looking at his club history and stats, the guy has a good pedigree:

3 seasons in la Liga (101 games, 27 goals)

1 season in Segunda (35 games, 8 goals)

4 seasons in the English Championship (126 games, 35 goals)

1 season in the EPL (16 games, 2 goals)

Israel national team: 37 games, 17 goals

It needs to be taken into account that he's often played for struggling teams, having been relegated twice from la Liga (Mallorca, Almeria) and last season from the Championship (Charlton) which would hamper anyone's goal-scoring rate.

When he played for a successful Championship side (Brighton) he scored 28 goals in two seasons.

His scoring rate for the Israeli national side has also been very good.

Along with a good goal scoring revord he has also married an Israeli Miss Universe contestent.

I hope the wife hating wellington doesnt stuff the deal.

We dont have a good track record when it comes to wifes and Wellington.

Maybe the no home games and being based in ausi may be a blessing in disguise.

do we think we are looking for an import defender? Will we use our full quota?

over 5 years ago · edited over 5 years ago · History

think the import quota is 5 so if we sign the israeli still 2 to go.

For austeritys sake unlikley we will do 5 but if we have 4 and the 2 we sign really are of the israelis quality then i would be ecastatic (i have serious doubts we are going to be sign that quality however)
