It's amazing how on a basis of a rumour we started planning our front line without Piscopo in this thread.
I have no inside knowledge, so it is only my assumption that he had no other way to return from Tokyo without paying a fare. He will stay put until the Sydney lockdown ends, and at most he would have some training locally first, probably with a NPL side etc.   I may be wrong, this is just my guess.
Usually when these rumours pop up in the A-League they turn out to be true. See: Davila

Eh, it really depends on the source of the rumour. Not all are created equal, and this one already has a journo pouring water on it.

You could point at Davila - but that's different because he was out of contract. I could equally point at the rumours about a Sydney side signing David Ball while he's contracted that turned out to be twaddle.

All in all, I don't think we're in a financial position to be making a Piscopo sized donation to WSW purely out of the goodness of our hearts - and I'd be very disappointed if we did, but I understand wanting to prepare for the bad news.

As far as I can tell the Piscipo rumor was that he would be announced yesterday, which obviously didn't happen, and was discredited by members of the Australian media.

I guess we'll never really know until he turns up to a nix training session or WSW make an announcement.
in the meantime, I'm going to believe it's not true.

Good time for us to receive some cash to use on another player
Every cloud, and all.

Kinda glad we won't come up against him any time soon, assuming all goes ahead. Happy trails, Cam - you bloody well deserve it!

Just a shame he wasn't there in time to dick over Celtic and Postecoglou last weekend.

All said and done though (even if we didn't get the full fee this time...) We've got a hell of a track record over the past couple of years getting players into Europe. 😎

Give em' hell Cammy, and good luck. 👍

That’s actually a very good point, Devlin left Sydney with only 49 A League minutes to his name and not really getting a sighter at this level. He leaves the Phoenix as an Olympian, one of the best midfielders in Australia and now earned himself a move to a top tier European team. We might not attract the senior Aus players like Brillante or Antonis etc but surely under the radar guys will now seriously rate coming here, Pennington and Laws show that.

I would love to read the Scottish press saying "Cam Devlin, talented young midfielder from Wellington Phoenix..." rather than "Cam Devlin, who joins us from The Jets in Australia", but that's them breaks

Not to mention the likes of Cacace, Singh, Joe Bell (through the academy). Add Devlin to that list now too.

That's a pretty damn good production line, and possibly going out on a limb here, but churning out talent like that might just be the envy of the A-League.

Whatever happens with Piscopo you could likely add him in to. Came to Nix as a virtual unknown from Serie C, now likely hot property.

Nix Academy certainly well respected now across the league, but other clubs also developing young talent and seeing those players move on. CCM been doing it virtually since their inception. Nix also have the advantage of having a whole nation talent pool mostly to themselves (excl Ole kids). Also helps that Talay started out as youth coach, and seems to have some real talent spotting skills.

I knew there were more to add to the list.

Could even go down the route of Rojas & Barbarouses too,  although the circumstances surrounding their departures from the club & subsequent careers probably don't quite fit into the whole youth development shtick we've created at the Nix.

Agree, but there was a bit of a difference between the development of Barbarouses and Rojas, with the latter being singularly helped by the YF and nurtured by the club, while the former was singularly underused by Ricki who probably failed to a degree to recognise and employ the potential and talent of Kosta.

Can we afford his current $1.2 Million USD per week "requirements". He did turn down a lower offer after all. Already has one Tax conviction, maybe he is raising money for his next one.

Don't know about him turning down a lower offer. He had agreed to take a 50% pay cut. It's just that barca are broke after years of poor management and having no income through the pandemic.

In New Zealand they cracked down on signing Dieter Villalpando for rape accusation

Everything was already discussed and there were agreements, but finally Dieter Villalpando will not play in New Zealand, since the board gave great importance to the accusation of rape that the Mexican midfielder received. Dieter and his people practically waited only for plane tickets to travel and make their arrival at Wellington Phoenix official. Everything was going well, but when looking for information about Villalpando, the first thing that came out was the whole show for which Chivas left. Wellington's team was interested in Dieter after the good performances given by Ulises Dávila, who changed his team . Dieter and his family were interested in going abroad, the legal issue was fixed a bit and also at home, so everything was sung for a change. But when they were waiting for the proposal on paper, according to what was discussed, suddenly the refusal of the hiring came to them, so everything discussed ended up going very far.

Which would then rule out a Mexican, without some major tectonic plate movement.

From his wiki page:

On November 4th, 2020, Villalpando was permanently expelled from Chivas FC due to sexual assault allegations against him and his teammates Javier Eduardo López, Alexis Francisco Peña and José Juan Vázquez.[1]

While I have no issues with signing dicks if they improve us (Berisha or Joel Griffiths), I have massive issues with the likes of Cobra Commander (Muscat (thug)) or behaviour as shown above by this bloke.

To get dumped in a country with far higher levels of (un)acceptable macho behaviour says something.  Good call Nix to abandon him.

I love all how people are putting Bell at League 1 level, which is arguably lower than where he is now.

Bell more than held his own against Japan, a side laced with players playing in top leagues around the world. He looked as good as any other midfielder in our pool play.

As some who watches a lot of league one I think your underestimating its quality.  Don't forget that was where Taylor last played in the UK and he was not standout.  League 1 is better then most divisions in Europe with the Championship being one of the very best.

100% - that was the point I was trying to make (albeit badly). I think there's this misconception that the Championship/League 1 are low levels but they really aren't. There are large clubs in League 1 that were in the Prem not so long ago who have dropped down due to poor financial decisions Bolton, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Wigan, Sheffield Wednesday etc.

I think Bell's definitely a good player with a promising future, but because he's one of our own there's some rose tinted glasses. I thought/think the same about Libby.

No idea, this could have happened months ago or last week, no way for us to know the time lines involved. Guess it's come out now as he is training with a former club in Mexico & is expected to sign.

Honestly, Robinson does not tick all the boxes of being a great coach. He gets all of the good players but doesn't know where to play them. This was really evident last season.
