People appealing to the environment court does cost them a bit of money. You don't just do it for giggles. That combined with the fact that their property values will increase quite a bit leads me to be optimistic about it.
Since when does having a stadium built in your neighbour hood increase property values?

I like Petone. Jackson St. is quite nice already, and the new stadium can only invite new and further investment. Win-Win for everybody. The Hutt already provides plenty of Nix fans, and this same location is bound to supply more.
Apparently if the Club don't pick you up in a stretch limo and Welnix members carry you in a sedan chair to your pre-reserved seat it's too much for some Welly types. However do they manage to stand up for a whole ninety minutes? Poor lambs.

Kids from Kapiti are going to find it harder and more expensive to get to. Some families only travel to games via a direct train line. I don't have a problem with tearing the Hayward's a new asshole once a fortnight, but there will be some people who genuinely cannot make the trip, albeit too far or too expensive.

What they could easily do is some Phoenix train replacement buses, that go down the kapiti train line picking people up at all the stops, then turns left at the bottom of the gorge instead of right. Would that honestly be less convenient for people than taking the train to the stadium?

I've done the Tawa to Wgtn then back out to the Hutt before and it is a bit of a pain. Especially because you always miss the connecting train by two minutes and then have to sit at the station for another 30.
I would have thought a bus would be quite a bit faster. Less distance, fewer stops, no downtime waiting for the connecting train and it can take you all the way to the stadium. Only reason a train would be quicker is if traffic is really that bad coming in.

The two trains combined appear to be about 30mins longer (Including the walk to Petone Rec 20mins), only 10mins longer without the walk.

A fly in the proverbial transport ointment. .... Regional Council effectively owns Westpac Stadium and is responsible for public transport. May not be to happy giving Super Deals on Public transport to a competing stadium

I don't think the location is suitable enough. We are getting piss poor crowds in a stadium that is very accessible to be fair to Westpac.
For people on Kapiti Line and south of CBD, it aint gonna be a great alternative.
I really believe this is the Phoenix firing across the bows of Westpac Stadium. No doubt the Stadium Management will think that too cos there is sod all chance they will do ought.
Who represents the Council on Westpac Stadium Management - this is their asset and they should bloody well do everything in their power to ensure that Wellington teams play there.
I have a few questions. When Westpac first openned and there was a 2 year waiting list for season tickets, other than lining their pockets, and looking after corporate sponsors, just how much did the stadium trust reinvest in it. They've saved heaps on employing a shit catering company that charges the earth. I'd love to know where this profit was invested.
Here is an opportunity for some competition. A stadium much better suited for a fan base of any code. Sure the finals type games could be moved to Westpac. I think the Westpac Stadium Trust need to heed this very serious warning and sort their shit out. The average punter has had enough of being ripped off.
I hope this happens. Of course it might just be a few trying to scare Westpac. They need to start charging less to the average punter and less to the various organisations that wish to use it.

To put things in perspective for someone who doesn't know Petone, I live in a suburb just outside the CBD of Auckland. It would take me 25 mins to drive to Siberia (north Harbour stadium). How long would it take from Wellington to Petone?
But Albany is the dead-zone. This Petone place may have redeeming features...
