Considering it is a 15 foot walk across the platforms it's hardly a massive inconvenience is it?

A bus would be much slower than rail even if it turned left at Ngauranga.

I said the same (kind of thing) yesterday, and some wanker called me "Retarded" and a "Dick". I'm happy to share- which description would you like to take for your own?

Apparently if the Club don't pick you up in a stretch limo and Welnix members carry you in a sedan chair to your pre-reserved seat it's too much for some Welly types. However do they manage to stand up for a whole ninety minutes? Poor lambs.

Anyone who thinks Petone is hard to get to is basically a spoilt little shit who has no idea about inaccessible. Why, back in my day.... walk through snow and plagues of frogs....couldn't afford shoes so borrowed my Nan's..... (etc etc blah, blah)

Where did you grow up, Nuuk? I'm not going to disagree with you fully, but to label people spoilt little shits is retarded. It is physically harder to get to via public transport, so don't be a dick. Kids from Kapiti are going to find it harder and more expensive to get to. Some families only travel to games via a direct train line. I don't have a problem with tearing the Hayward's a new asshole once a fortnight, but there will be some people who genuinely cannot make the trip, albeit too far or too expensive.

You have such a way with words AJ.

I sympathise with "kids from Kapiti" but can't honestly imagine they total more than about 15 people in a Phoenix crowd. Don't think we should make or break any decisions because of them.

just keep Imagining . The reality is there are more like hundreds of kids coming from kapiti. mine being one of them . at least 4 stops before Mana  . not to mention people who don't use the trains . also why don't you add all the people on the kapiti line right thru to wellington . cause this is who it affects .I will make the games regardless but still like to look out for the little guy who might not be able to come due to a venue change.

Obviously you don't need to travel very far to have a view like that.

Maybe phoenix HQ could do a deal to get them to games . like setting up a game day travel pack with kiwi rail or bus companys . or set up a forum for people to find other people to travel together to games

So how much extra is it likely to cost per journey to change train at Wellington Central and then go to Petone? fuck all I'd suspect.
$2, get a Day Rover for $14 instead of the Stadium connection at $12.

what they should do is a transfer so it won't cost extra.  But we haven't caught up to how other countries do public transport yet.

The location stuff in this thread really is rubbish.  Are people actually saying that the only things they attend in Wellington are things completely central?

So you never go to the beach in Miramar?  Or to the movies in Island Bay?  Or to a swimming pool anywhere in the suburbs? Everyone who plays football drives all over wellington every second weekend to play games and that's assuming you live near your home  ground.  Wellington is a really small city, generally it's really easy to get around.  Let's look at the big picture here.  Rectangle stadium, right size, run by our owners.  Are people serious that this isn't a good idea?  Honestly, get a grip!

I saw the other day (Festival of the Elements on Waitangi Day) that Te Rauparaha arena in P-Town is the home of the Pulse.  That's even further out than Petone.

If you're going to spend all that money on a football-specific stadium, which is a great idea, why not put it where Newtown Park is? Wouldn't that be a more convenient central location.

In no respect is Newtown Park "central" to anything.

I would think Newtown Park would be substantially worse than Petone.

Westpac has the best location, but is not fit for purpose.

Petone is not that far from anywhere, yes seems a pain to catch two trains, but if timings are well arranged it would work perfectly. And the two train stations aren't actually that much further away than The Backbencher from Petone Rec. (I thought the location was poo, but after investigating the trains vs a Bus doing route and turning left a Ngauranga and other alternatives, you know what, the location works great)

tcinema in island bay was always well used, I'm guessing there was something else behind the closure. Eagles suggestion that all options in Wellington havent been considered seems incorrect - Newtown Park has been considered and the green belt and parking were put up as massive road blocks to making a new stadium there. I don't think I'd mind too much heading to Petone to watch the nix, those who come from North Wellington - by the time the new stadioum is up there will also be a new roading to cater for you guys too.

Between a bit of extra money and potential time it takes to transfer between trains/buses, it will put people off.

The upside - more people from the Hutt who couldnt make every game at the stadium now have the abiility to make up the numbers.

I'm with you on the sentiment, going to Petone isn't an issue.
As for the proposed road Tawa to Petone, it isn't planned to start construction til 2019, and then completed in 2024.
Of course given how long the consent process will take for the Stadium, the road probably will be in place first :P

Also for the people complaining that Newtown is better, Newtown would cost more than that $2 extra...

If this stadium construction requires going through the Notifiable Consent Process then it has zero chance of being open in time for the 2016/17 season. The proposed airport runway extension has been estimated at 6 to 8 years Consent process.....I would imagine this stadium would be something similar.....Sorry to rain on the parade!!!

With respect, I think this is a load of horseshit. Wellington is a collaborative place, and people like to hold hands and sing kumbaya a lot, but it's not harder to get things done here. It's just different.

As for corporates fleeing, you mean the old behemoth corporates like BP and the banks? Yep they are really at the forefront of "getting things done" and innovation. Yikes.

Anyway, take the negativity elsewhere. Followers of the Budgie are not welcome ITT.

We're getting an ANBL side - Aussie Basketball have looked long and hard at Wellington, and the Nix as an example of a professional sports outfit based in the city, and see what a success it can be and are ready to expand into Wellington. There goes your theory of nobody wanting to do anything in Wellington.

Its about 15-20mins less from Napier via the Rimutaka Hill Road so i'm all for it!!!

Not sure Gooner4Life will be please though

The Palmy Fever Bus will always find a way. It used to take me an hour on various train lines to get to the Emirates in London so this will be nothing by comparison. Build it and they will come :)

I like Petone. Jackson St. is quite nice already, and the new stadium can only invite new and further investment. Win-Win for everybody. The Hutt already provides plenty of Nix fans, and this same location is bound to supply more.

Probably for you, yeah fuck all. I dont know who you are, where you live or how much you earn per year so i cant really say. But i do know a lot of people can struggle to make ends meet. Between a bit of extra money and potential time it takes to transfer between trains/buses, it will put people off.

The upside - more people from the Hutt who couldnt make every game at the stadium now have the abiility to make up the numbers.

It's an extra $2.....

Also for the people complaining that Newtown is better, Newtown would cost more than that $2 extra...

and probably take more than 15 minutes to get to/find a park....has anyone tired to find a park to get to the Zoo on a saturday - horrendous!

LOL the 3pm Sunday game would be insane with the zoo crowd plus the Nix crowd.

Imagine the racism fines we'd cop from the FFA when they heard the chimps in the chimp enclosure fire up.

With respect, and being totally compassionate to the plight of others.... bullshit. I don't believe you.
Boohoo for you then. Ive already spoken to plenty of people who said they like and support the idea for the sake of the club, but would probably end up going to less games. One of the guys at work, whos old man lives in Te Aro, is apparently outraged and will not travel to Petone to watch the Nix. With the name 'Napier Phoenix' you obviously dont live where I do.

I find it odd that travel to petone is such a hard thing to deal with? most of us even those who live in Wellington would already bus or drive to the stadium....why would catchig a train be that restrictive? I would expect that the nix would make some arrangement with the trains to make sure those who wanted to get to the gmae could make it...
