Where we went wrong was conceding after 22 seconds. Both goals scored the same way too. We were always gonna struggle against better teams but that was unacceptable tbh.
Fudge sake man I'm getting sick of this. People can talk about the dodgy reffing but at the end of the day WE lost the game because tactically we were poor. Poor reffing doesn't change the fact that for 40 minutes we were a man up and for 20 minutes we were two men up, yet couldn't score. We walk the ball up the pitch half the time and it does us no favours, and for the love of God we couldn't score even when we were right in front of the damn goal.
Was this an entertaining derby? Sure. But I want to see us win. All this game has told me is that we are in for another 3 game sweep. This feels like such a lame derby I mean what other club or national rivalry exists in sports as a whole where only one team wins. The fun of the derby keeps getting siphoned as we lose literally every game against them. How long are we supposed to wait until we so much as get a draw?
9 MEN. 9 MEN AND WE COULDN'T SCORE. Am I supposed to go home and say "well look on the bright side"? What silver lining am I supposed to take from this? I've been put into the most one-sided rivalry ever yet I can't bring myself to stop routing for the Nix. Sorry if this post is overly negative but far out man it's so frustrating.
We gifted them two goals and why the heck is Randall not playing for us? He’s a Wellington boy! His 1st touch and moving forward was all class, he destroyed us.
why are people genuinely happy with this as they were entertained. this mindset is why we don't win trophies.
The reds won't really sting if Sakai is back for Hall (which may still get rescinded).
Club should be focusing on winning games especially derbies.
Why would it rescinded? They’re gonna have Hall, Rogerson, Sakai and Brimmer out next game so will be interesting to see how they cope with their depth being tested for once
Because the head of referees confirmed there was a handball in the lead up to the red card so hall will be rescinded.
That’s total bullshark. If the VAR has missed it, the play is live and he’s still committed the foul. We can go back 7 phases if Corica whines enough?
Ref and VAR didn’t see it clearly not ‘a clear and obvious error’.
Can we get awarded points for it being clear that AFC organised a transfer from Bournemouth in breach of the rules? F I hate Corica. And McFlynn.
Looked ok on the box but I guess they don’t show one side
you can't really expect people to turn up when at this point the loss is a sure thing. I hate watching sports when I already know the result. I'd imagine every team has figured out exactly how easy it is to do the nix by now, we will see the same tactics with the attack down the wings and the centre forward played onside. It will be easy pickings.
You’re not alone.. the worst part is even when they had 10 i guarantee no phoenix fan was confident they could mount a come back, just so sad Noah4thenix

So four games in we have let in four goals via the high line. To be fair we have been forced to change the backline for every game. We really need to have a settled defense and drill in the method. Because its such fine margin for error. Especially for such young experianced defenders. I still like our overall game. We will trouble lots of teams thus season
Was worth the money just to see Piper come on at halftime and rattle the cages !
Yep we gave it heaps, but hells bells, we don't have the players to play the high line, especially on our right side. So tactically naive. Plus our keeper is all at sea with it. He was so poor tonight.
Gutted the derby's are so one sided just because we don't have any money, and are being tactically out thought. Lost opp for me.
Auckland won't give a sharke that they'll have 2 players suspended. It was a great win for them, and they deserved it. They have so much depth. We were really lucky to still be in it at halftime - they should've been 2 or 3 goals clear.
Sadly we'll get hammered by the other quality sides. Can't expect to score 3 goals every week to comeback from high line errors.
Gutted as hell. The first half I thought we looked the better team by quite a way.
I honestly reckon if it was 11-11 we would have had a better chance at tying it up or winning. Once they went down a player they parked the bus and instead of peppering the goalie with shots we just struggled to figure out how to get a shot off.
Gutted by those goals AFC scored. Eze great goal and total attitude. LKH got more and more stuck in, and was very sound in his play. Armiento disappointed in that he rarely did anything other than pass the ball back to the defence. Piper worked hard to make an impact and got a result in the red card incident. I was shocked at how much pushing and pulling the ref ignored. Cosgrove got away with murder.

Are you really going to go back to the AP loan. They literally stated this in the post match on TV and nobody debated it if it gets rescinded.
Complaining about a loan that happened last year is exactly why the mindset of both NZ are in the opposites and one club is going in the positive direction.
Under Chiefy we aren't gonna win anything.
Also 12081 fans for one of the biggest game of the seasons is piss poor regardless of what excuse we wants to use.
Probably our best chance second half was during the Piper/Hall incident. Because after Piper got bought down Najjarine got to the rebound and had a really good chance to bury it. The goal would have stood as VAR missed the supposed hand ball. Great work by Eze to set up Piper. Is Eze our best import for ages?. Three goals already abd absolutely works his butt off for 90 mins
Whatever the law currently says,IMO crosgrove should not be allowed to stand in an offside position from where he attacks. He's clearly seeking an advantage.
Accepted part of a CFs game though internationally. He’s okay as long as he’s not in the box interfering with the keepers eyeline I think.
Maybe. But watching Cosgroves actions in the replay,I think it's farcical that that isn't deemed offside.

Nonsense. There were two other big events in town that folks booked ages ago before the fixture were released on at exactly the same time. 12k for a game most didn’t expect us to win and had other plans already, pretty understanding imo.
So our high line system gives them two goals, we get a freak worldie from an opposition mistake and fail to score outside of that even though they go down to 9 men. The Nix finding new and exciting ways to lose.
Really sucks to support a team of such losers while the rival team are such consumate winners. What did we all do to deserve this?
In response to WanderingSheep, does the Nix not have culpability here, for not insisting to APL that a home derby not be on a weekend with two other big events on?

Hey bud, reading. I know, it’s a struggle when you’ve only hit one thing on your negative tunnel vision.
I’m pissed off Corica or Flynn or Becker has the head of refs of speed dial and is suddenly getting this red card revoked supposedly. Nothing to do with the result, but the special attention they’re getting here.
Comparing that to how they engineered a loan move against the rules. How Pijnaker could handball and then score late, but nothing could be done in that case. How Steele (and Mauragis) could get away with bloody blue murder and have the whole CC team swearing at the ref, eliminating two of our players with bad challenges and perhaps damaging Ishige’s career.
But a clear DOGSO for this whining lot and the head of referees is on hand to reverse it before the end of the game. It can’t have been a clear and obvious error, as neither ref or VAR picked it up.
12k is a decent turnout considering last season.
Eze is a class player and fought all game. And Piper entered like a wrecking ball and should have been rewarded. Najjarine really should have scored, instead of the DOGSO.
I’m not happy- but don’t kid yourself that many attacks would have broken down this defense:
Mids: Verstraete, Gallegos, Howieson Defense: De Vries, Girwood-Reich, Pijnaker, Elliot
Gallegos, Pijnaker and Howieson completely fresh off the bench. That’s 3 AWs and an Aussie age group rep as your back 4 with an arguably better midfield.
Surely this game shows an enormous amount of progress from last season? With Payne, James and Ishige out? And Mileusnic and Walker for that matter?
Last year we were listless and offered nothing. Here we came back strong at these guys twice and had them completely rattled.
I don't think Elliot said anything unreasonable. It's understandable he has mixed feelings about the Nix. Got to admire his determination and perseverance, not to mention talent. Excellent player who's really come on.coochiee

Wow Callan Elliot is an ungrateful little turd. Guess he kinda forgot he got his pro start with us. Fudge that guy.
You do realise that Chris Wood does this a thousand times a season?Fenix

All credit to those here who went but the crowd size was beyond piss poor.
12k is simply embarrassing for the second ever home derby.
The only piece of decent marketing was Chief giving tickets to homeless people on the street.
The reason why this club is struggling is certain people here are not just tolerating but actually defending piss poor things at the moment.

Because we have had a poor track record of not giving CL players a fair crack because they haven't come through the academy.
Hopefully the emergence of another NZ team changes it.
Still incredibly deflated after that, and overall I'm pretty miserable about it being 4 in a row against that lot.
But if there was something to be optimistic about it's Piper. Can't remember too many more substitutes having such an impact after coming on. He's such a physical threat and could cause serious problems for any defensive unit in the league. Obviously there was the red card incident, but he won a lot in the air, and won a few corners through sheer nuisance. Really excited for him to develop into brilliant sharkhousing 9.
