f**king hell. Not again

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Watch the replay, Rees let the guy that scored run right by him.

He played well in his first game but last week Archie ran past him all game and it happened again this week letting strikers run by him. Good footballer, but turns like the Titanic and has no pace.

I can understand why he wasn't signed by Adelaide

That second Adelaide goal just tore our sail to shreds. The momentum we had been riding on for 30 or so minutes beforehand just dissipated, and a tidy Adelaide defence kept the 'Nix at bay.

Some dodgy moments from the ref, but really it was another game beset by missed opportunities.

Oh, 'Nix 'Nix 'Nix. You make it so goddamn hard to love you sometimes...

What? How did that happen? I'm in disbelief, what was it 80% posession and territory? My god, what the f**k is going to take?

Ouch.  Covs blowing the goal when it's wide open, and then ... as per normal this season, defence goes to sleep, hangs off, there goes a 6 point swing.

Decent finishing and a bit of luck at one end. 100% concentration for 90 minutes at the other.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Disappointing, Perth next week is a big game - (wooden) spoon fight

Sounded like lots of possession, but do we create enough quality chances? We are close to winning games. Bollocks.

what the hell happened out there that was the most exciting game i've ever seen and it was all set up 4 a classic nix victory right b4 da beckham game.

im just so ANGRY at our defence dodd and moss give it there all but i just can't believe it.

ITS A COMMEDY OF ERRORS MATES,

i just hope the game won over a few fans to keep comin back

We should ave won that game, let in two soft goals. But we shold of scored three more than what we did..The ref was a big reason why we didn't..I'd like to meet him in a dark alley.

Thats bull, we created so many opportunities, i cant believe we didnt win that game

Daniel MOM... constantly does the hard work but we fail to capitalize on what he creates

oh and also

while im annoyed Daniel's first goal was disallowed, i cannot believe the Felipe penalty wasn't awarded

We just do not create enough quality "box" balls. Look at pantelisis ball in first half...sr8 on Agostinos head. Smeltz never getz those, covs got one of the few that land on the head...didnt take it. Elrich had 10 opportunities to do it but couldnt.

My view....covs and smeltz work better together. With filiepe, elrich and daniel, our strickers are basically obsolete and have no chance to score (besides a scrappy goalmouth scramble).

Too much of a good thing up front and not enough composure...seems to be all razzle dazzle with the brazils and no structure.

Im probably wrong, but I feel sorry for covs, smeltzy and brownlie.

Totally agree with the poor delivery, i lost count of the number of corners we had. And i like Covs too with Smeltz so maybe daniel should play further back.

A lot of the problem is due to lack of experience; see my post page 8

From where I sit our problem is fundamentally an inability with creating & finishing QUALITY chances in the top third.
Lack of finishing or having quality opportunities in turn puts undue pressure of the defence and any defensive midfielders.
It was something we used to see with their predessors who had this same problem and we have NEVER been able to counter-attack with speed & penetration at speed the way the Australian sides can
WHY?

Lads - that was a FANTASTIC game. Just gotr ho,e - the crowd was AWESOME - 18,000 - the Phoenix were terrific - the ebst game i've seen them play. Ok, we didn't score enough, and we let in tow soft goals - but they were all over Adelaide.

i'm a big believer in football karma - we will get our just rewards. That game proved we are not the 7th best team ijn the A-league - and at home we are a force to be reckoned with! It was a fantastic crowd and game to be part of! (my boy even got on the big screen!).

BTW - the ref was a fat c*nt. Fat bastards should not be allowed to be ref's. He gave us one penatly but there were two other sitters. PLus, the disallowed goal was a joke! Where do they find these monkeys!

That, is very frustrating. Three points lost.

Don't get too down lads - we played f*ing fanstastic. It will all come off. Tonight showed that on our day we can foot it and beat the best in the league.

Wow.  What a night.  Great crowd, great buzz before the game, and then great disappointment at the end of it.

Absolutely gutted.

Lads in the Zone were giving it everything.  The crowd was outstanding.

But the team wasn't.

Just distraught.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

There will be some football converts after tonight.Like some other post said - there would have been a lot of virgins tonight - they would have got their cherry well and truely pooped and be back for more!

third week in a row against ten men, we had them. great game, just didn't have the finishing touch we tried really hard and the crowd really got behind the boys

some really good football played by the lads  just need to learn to step up a notch especially against TEN men put them away

One other thing - never seen so much TOTTI at a football game before. The ground was positively dripping with it! Tomorrow night at the Galaxy game is going to be very special indeed ....

Yeah I'm sure there are loads of positives, but I'm just sick of leaving the Ring with no voice AND no points.

Surely the lads owe us a f**king win.

Will never give up but it's still depressing.

Great to see young lads like Josh Redmond and Geordie Mansford (two players for the Phoenix in the future by the way) getting in the Zone and making some noise for the boys.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Quote of the day: "He's lost a lot of weight Mario Jardel, but he's still a big unit there's no doubt about that"

HAHA.

And apparently the Newcastle Jets are trialling George Paladini.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Not many fussy buggars in here. I thought Phoenix were poor in the first half. Great crowd, great atmosphere but a disappointing performance except for 30mins in the 2nd half. The same players keep doing the same dumb things each week. Luckily there is a bigger picture and we'll get a bit more quality in the side for next season.

that was a fantastic game, i just cannot believe how we lost that game, when it was 1-1 after we equalised we looked very threatning and you could smell a phoenix win and then within minutes adelaide get the second goal, what happened!! i was sitting like all of you in westpac in disbelief and you could see Dodds reaction on the big screen, he was gutted, its not like him, we are getting better, theres no doubt but we should not have lost that match!

Lets hope perth draw or get gubbed this weekend and then beat them next friday.

is it still possible for us to make the top four?
Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

The Nix lost because the Nix are still frail defensively, and are unable to convert the few chances that they are creating.

The same problems that plagued them at the start of the season arestill there. While the nix look good in the middle third they are not creating and converting enough chances in the front third while continuing to leak goals at the back.

mathematically, it must be but I can't quite see it happening unless our finishing improves

to be honest top four wasn't on my radar apart from the week after we won over in sydney

I do want to see some more home wins though, and for us to finish above at least one or two other sides

goodnight citizens (well, the night bit is true!)

btw - was surprised to see brown come off, makes sense in terms of keeping the more creative players on but to me he adds a bit of steel

The crowd was great though.  I have a stack of pics (so many that one Mr Butterfield was giving me sh*t and telling me to put my camera away) which I will post to the gallery tomorrow sometime.

Not really bothered about tomorrow at the moment but I'm sure we'll all get up for it in the morning.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Quite often it's the quality of the crosses letting us down. I think the crosses from the left looked more dangerous for this simple reason, Daniel tries to get round his marker and as close to the goal as possible before he puts the cross in. As soon as Elrich starts doing the same we'll be that bit more dangerous and if we play two men up front we should get a few more goals.

rubbish though really. i mean the crowd and atmoshpere were choice but not 2 convert against 10 men AGAIN and even lose the f**king match. its all well and good saying they showed promise and were by far the better team and they were but that dosnt count for anything in the ned. absolutly guttrd.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Elrich's crossing in the first half was rubbish. Felipe kept doing the same stepover all first half and falling over. Distribution was poor...

Lots to practice though!

One thing that got me was they kept patting each other on the back after some basic error had been made instead of telling the truth and giving them a rocket! It's supposed to be professional football! You aren't supposed to get too many chances and they have to stick them away.

I'm a glass half full kind of guy.  We were excellent for the last hour - Adelaide's second goal was great work by Burns and completely against the run of play.  Very impressed with the midfield, and I really think it works when Coveny comes on for that last 20 minutes.  A bit of tightening at the back and we're competitive with the best.  Mossy was a spectator most of the second half - hence I doubt he'll be MOTM this week.  I think the improvement in this team over the last month has been really dramatic, and bodes well for the future.  Bar the result it was a great night, and unlike the CCM game which left me feeling we were lucky to get so close, this match suggests we are going to start putting the top teams under soon.  (Admittedly maybe next year for the playoffs.)

Doubt tomorrow is going to be so exciting.

I honestly feel as about as happy as you can be for a loss. I don't know if it showed on tv but the atmosphere was incredible at the ground. The chanting was loud and everyone joined in and was getting on their feet. I thought we played pretty well but its sooo frustrating to lose to ten men.

However i did manage to get Daniel to sign one of those clapper things. chocnut2007-11-30 23:24:18
