Muscat - again another hard worker and can play in various positions but really is their nothing better on the market?

Husenguymes (not sure on spelling) - looks lost and like Fenton seems to be a one game wonder. He doesnt know how to play the game outside the box.

Just no on these two. Muscat is out of form. He is a fantastic player.

And Huysegems is also fantastic. Can hardly blame him for looking lost. Its the way ricky plays. Thats why greenacre was nowhere near as effective as he could have been.

agreed, it's always going to be tough for a lone striker to be uber effective when he's marked by two CB's, and as said earlier often Stein tracks back and none of his midfielders press forward to give an option, so passing back is the only option he has. Sanchez being in the mix changed that a bit. At least stein can hold the ball up and he makes some decent runs which gives us opportunities, the only thing I'd like him to do is to pull the trigger in anger more often.....

we played well

mistakes for the goals, but one shouldn't have been allowed, so they scored two in reality. We scored two and missed a penalty. 2-2 or 3-2 to us on another day.

Not keen to knee-jerk half our squad out the door on the back of one of our best performances this season

corner count was 8-2 to us, we had 23 shots to their 16, it was about being clinical and getting the rub of the green. We were not clinical and were very unlucky. Give Boyd and/or totori a go in the starting side would be my only changes

So.  We're going to magically find a better left back free agent in Australia than Lochhead?

Remember that West Sydney have to use Adam D'Apuzzo, Brisbane Steffanuto, and Perth Heffernan.  People seriously think we can find an option in Aus behind those three better than Lochhead?

Any left wingers we can convert to LB :P

Last night Huysegems and Sanchez looked like the only two players in our team who are actually capable of receiving the ball under pressure and not immediately losing it. Even Ifill has gotten somewhat sloppy in possesion recently.

Sanchez did my head in in the area.  Quite a number of times he got the ball and all he did was welly it into the legs of the player closing him down as he paniced.

It looked like me playing indoor.

No, but Muscat has played  LB for us before, and that is what I would do this weekend.

There pretty much no chance the Ricki would do this, despite the fact that it might actually work.

Can't be worse than TL and probably better than he has performed in the midfield.
Apart from not being a natural left footer, it is no different to playing RB. Tony L is a left footer and it has not helped him.

UUUReds is the one with a football pattern haircut I think.  He was here when they last came over to Wgtn.

First game back I guess. He still looked way more comfortable on the ball than Lia, Smith and Muscat ever do and was transitioning play nicely through midfield at times. He's definitely not as defensively minded as the other three but fuck, does it really need three DMs to shore up our midfield? Surely that responsibility has to fall on whichever two of the other three are in there.

Yeah, I'm a bandwagoner. The two playoff games in season 3 were my first, and they got me hooked.

Muscat is not a left back. If Phoenix are going to fix the LB problem then they have to do it right.

Some one said in the Auckland City thread they saw Ian Hogg at the game. He could be the fix the Phoenix need. Pace and some drive going foward and ability the to get back quickly. Has looked better in a white shirt than Lochead and possibly look better in a yellow one too? But could possibly just back on a holiday.

Agree about Luke Rowe. Has looked joe average for Wellington this season but so have most of the academy players.

Midfield next something else too, Sanchez done ok but how long will he last before another injury.

Totori up top with Brockie wouldn't be bad too.

YF should be offering Patrick a scholarship - banner making, chant crafting, podcasting and web page skillz (I think he already has some of these).  He could be the youth academy equivalent of the next News or Smithy.

Is it just me or does Ifill have an unusually high proportions of his shots and passes blocked?

Have to say, Boyd was VERY unlucky not to score. I think Galekovic made one of the finest PK saves I've seen in a while.

Boyd hit the ball well and with power, and Galekovic's hand managed to keep it out. On the reboud I think Boyd should have gone with his left foot. You live you learn I guess

Yeh this- he got height and angle on the pen.
Someone should let him know the fans aren't mad at him. Made some bad calls pregame- thought Boyd was one of the best, if not he best and was so angry that Ifill's come back goal /assist (steiny's too) was dissallowed. Maybe they should just give us a goal headstart cos we're always going to get a bullshit call at Hindmarsh. It fucked our early season momentum. Hope this is our point back in from here. Perhaps Ifill from the bench? Definitely need to mix up our attack to get the most out of it- cos we've definitely got the players. We definitely gain something from our quicker team- Fenton, Boyd, Totori, - but also as per the disallowed goal the experience and skill of Huysegems and Ifill is also awesome. Feel we are closer to getting it right. Thought Boyd's composure on the goal to find Sanchez was excellent.
Brockie and Ifill to the bench for the next game? Why not? But then don't be afraid to use the subs! Also- Manny to left back? probably not but??
more bs reffing at Hiindmarsh- perhaps- Strebre got it mostly right- though allowed some rough challenges without yellows, but then booked Ifill for kicking the ball away...but that disallowed goal is going to annoy me for a while. Hopefully Ifill and Boyd power through on full force until the end of the season. I'd call Brockie from the bench, but I know that's not going to happen.
Also- WHY WHY WHY have we seen so little of Totori this season considering his impact here and against Newcastle?
Feels like we've got two competing teams- the new/old

I didn't see the game on Sunday but I thought these comments sounded a bit odd after been been comprehensively beat

"Despite the missed opportunities, Herbert said he was proud of his troops for responding in the second stanza after a 'bizarre first half'.

Herbert credited the introductions of substitutes Tyler Boyd and Ben Totori along with Louis Fenton for injecting pace and causing mayhem in the final third as the Phoenix went in search of a result.

"I can't speak highly enough of team ... I thought we were the best team in the second half," Herbert said.

"We had to do something in the second half after we copped three pretty basic goals.

"3-0 down is a hard position to be in, but we rung the changes and I thought the young ones were excellent.

"There was a goal scored that wasn't given ... we missed a penalty, Louis should have scored an open goal, and it would have made for a fascinating finish to the game."

Wellington co-owner Gareth Morgan was vocal in the media earlier this week, demanding more of Herbert and a desire to see the team play a more attractive and attacking brand of football.

Herbert felt Sunday's performance in the final third took an important step in that direction.

"It was arguably one of our better attacking performances of the season against a side who is playing well and at home are extremely difficult to beat," Herbert said.

"We've had this release back home about building towards a more free-flowing type of football ... and in my own opinion I've applauded that.

"Sunday you saw some of the work in progress ... it gave us that feeling that we are on the right track."

Bloody hell JD, you can either watch the game and be able to comment on it, or keep your mouth shut about it. Simple choice.
