The money is there at gareths end and rather then donating it to charity I wouldn't mind him investing it into the phoenix

I think the Nix have had more than enough.certainly for 2011/12.  .There are always more deserving causes than sport.

Leaving aside the marquee slots we might be closer to the cap than you think. Take Melbourne victory. Take out Kewel, Thomson and Rojas and they are almost on the cap. Our team should cost at least the same amount as the rest of their players I would have thought.

Yeah he would be 36 then and to be honest, I think you get Smith or Greenie, but not both.

Based on perfromances would keep Greenie ahead of Smith next year if had to choose between the two

Man love aside, I would be pissed if Greenie is not in the squad next year let alone miss out to Smith.

Don't get me wrong Smith is good but you just cannot fault Greenie, how many foreign players in the A League actually show as much LOYALTY, DEDICATION, WORK ETHIC and TEAM WORK as him??

I know what you mean I love Greenie too but if we spend a visa spot on a striker you expect more than 3 goals after all the games hes played this season.

Greenacre is a tough one. He is a great professional, a great man to have around the club, works his arse off in games, but a striker makes his living around scoring goals...and he hasn't been able to put enough in.

I'd hate to lose him too but I think in the next 1-2 years we're going to have to replenish the squad - we are one of the oldest teams in the A-League if no-one didn't already notice.

The question is though, can Ricki be ruthless enough to make the call? This year he was expecting to play less but that has not really happened. When he isn't scoring much for the minutes he is playing, would he produce more next year? I think the answer unfortunately is obvious.

True, but as I said before, the spot should be Greenies unless we get a better import to fill the spot, assuming of course he intends to continue playing

Pav's broken arm, Ifill's injuries.  Otherwise he'd have played less.  I don't think that's evidence Ricki won't be able to make the call.
But, yeh, as others say, we need to sign some-one better, or Pav needs to come on in leaps and bounds before the end of the season.

You really AREN'T very good at this trolling thing, are you? But you're persistent, I'll give you that.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Please, don't feed the trolls.

Back on topic. Smith is a good piece of business for this season. The ball is in his court now if he wants to prove he is worth a spot in the squad next season. In that regard will put our other imports in a position of having to prove they are worth continuing with. I still think he is a better option to play alongside Lia and then its between Brown and Sanchez to play behind Greenacre, my pick will be Sanchez.Bullion2012-01-20 13:42:42

Smith had a great game last night and contributed a lot. Youthful enthusiasm? Point to prove? I don't actually care, so long as he keeps playing that way. I'd also like to salute Tim Brown, who played his best game this season so far. Grandadi2012-01-21 20:42:20

Podcast said he went to China for trials at one point. He has been tweeting about training with a local Aussie Rules club recently. Maybe he needed to have more days in Aussie for his residency application.

This weeks podcast mentioned Dura's missus was expecting also, seems our guys have been scoring more off the pitch than on it.

... where Miron, the coach who axed him from GCU to get Fattie Rigters, is in charge? Or maybe he has great manlove for Michael Boxall.
