Like others, the only place I've seen/read that part of the reason for taking games on the road is financial is here.

If that was made clear, there would be a lot less resentment (slightly) about the neccessity of pimping out home games to other centres that could guarantee 15-20k attendances.
 
I think that the identity buzz for a lot of people on this forum is mixed. There are a number of OG YF members who are local, and a number who aren't. The fact that we (Wellington) retained a club side in the A-League is, for a lot of football fans in this country, an awesome thing.
 
And for some the line between country and province is less important than others, particularly for those Nix fans without easy access to attend regualar home fixtures. I want to hug these people for ages untold.
 
However, I really don't think that me being half (well, 75%) drunk right now, and having just watched a reply of the AW's beat Bahrain in thw WC qualifier gives me any reason to commenty on anything right about now...

The standard of that game wasn't a great ad for the Nix, was it. Suprised anyone turned up considering what a s**t day it was.
 
Anyway cast aside the Chch paranoia. As someone else said the future of the Nix is in the hands of Wellington. A 15,000 crowd at every home game would make management think twice about shopping around. A 8,000 crowd and "lets take a look" will always be an option.

Since when should we be in competition for other cities for crowd numbers? Since when do we have to double our attendance to have home games at home? Since when do we have to do that to survive as a club?

Very true. I have been posting purely on the unconfirmed assumption by some people that the club is in financial trouble. I don't actually believe it until something more subtantial confirms it. Also it appears that some people posting in this thread assume that crowd numbers, or a national sponsor is the way to pull the club out of this "hole".

None of this is confirmed, and in my head it seems completely unfounded apart from a report by Terry saying that he was losing a cool million a year on the nix.

I guess that confusion lies in the reasons to move the games in the first place - originally not controlled by the Nix, but now they want to continue doing it to promote the game nationally or something. What changed? Why? In the meantime I think people are going to come up with their own scenarios until something in concrete comes out about next season

Your not in competition with other cities. Who said that? You are currently  in competition with the bank and the potential elsewhere market.
Ok 15k was plucked out of the air, as a point of some half decent profit but your being pedantic.
Would you prefer I said 14k? 13K? 12K? every k lower increases the likelyhood of shopping around.
The point you seem to have completly missed is that when Wellington provides, the temptation to look elsewhere will be significantly reduced.
And don't expect quotes about it being about money. Do you?

A couple of people is a lot better than no people at all. And its a huge effort by those people. People who have to travel by plane or by more than an a couple of hours really do humble me as a fan of the nix. I will be the first hold my hand up and say I take it for granted that I live 10 minutes away from the stadium. Those who really make the effort to come to the ROF should get all the accolades they deserve.

I don't really want to say too much more on this, I think my feelings on the matter are now known. Firstly this confederation nonsense must be sorted out. Then another major coup would be New Zealand having two teams in an Australian league at the same time. That is what I would love to see. There is a support base there for it, just need to find the money (and a licence!).

Yes i do. Until then,you canno assume that is what its about. Its being used as an argument,when according to the management,thats not even what its about.
 
So,either your money argument is irrelevent,or the nix management are misleading us (which they already kind of have with contradictory statements "we were forced to" vs "we have always wanted to take the game around NZ).
 
Communication is key! As i have said,im sure a lot of people would just grin and bear it if they came out and said "The club is losing rather a lot of money,to make it financially viable for Terry to stay in we have to take these games on the road". But instead we get other reasons,not even close to being about money.

If what some people are claiming - that the Nix have to go to places like Christchurch for their good crowds or not survive for much longer - then another NZ team in the A-League would be bad news for the Nix. Obviously, we couldn't profitably export the team to Christchurch if there's already a team there.

Timmy,stop being selfish. You know full well that if Chch have a team itd hurt Terrys pockets as the phoenix on tour games wouldnt be able to happen as they wouldnt be as lucrative.
