News media are talking about WGA as an American financier. When did that happen?

They, apparently, have an office in the US. I don't know what to believe now.

Closer and more detailed reading of the wikifrauds.net website indicates that Ali Syed has a whole phalanx of lawyers, accountants, PR men etc, from all across the civilised world, who are (if it is a scam) either dupes or accomplices. This account is beginning to resemble a conspiracy theory. (If Ali Syed has no money, how does he pay all those guys?)

I'm with you, I don't think IRD are easily fooled and neither are they easily swayed by sentiment. I tend to think there is a very good chance Terry has saved himself, the Nix and ourselves.

Think people get confused because the loan amount discussed was in USD.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

As I say, all Ali Syed or Terry would have to do is to provide one (1) verifiable testimony from someone who actually got their loan monies, and I would breathe easy.

No one said Syed had no money- he appears to have taken around $50m in advance fees.

People have said he has no ability to settle out loans, which is quite another matter altogether.

This is not an email spam-shot operation- it's quite a bit more sophisticated, and expensive to run.

If application fees for WGA loans were  non-refundable, with no guarantee of acceptance, then the applicants (including Terry) wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Be interesting to see what WGA actually offers.

There appears to have been two separate fees mentioned. A $50k ish 'application fee' for consideration of the loan, and then a 1.5% up front Loan arrangement fee just prior to loan furfillment.

Im pretty sure someone or a group of people have been after Terry all this time..Using the media as a tool to discredit him and convince people that he is basically a crook which may be completely false. By discrediting him it makes it easier for them to take him down.... Dont underestimate the power of the media.

Hopefully terry pulls through

It's interesting, isn't it? You know that Nipples/the NBR want to paint Terry as a crook, but the upshot of the current fooferaw is to paint Terry as the victim of a crook, which might garner a sympathy vote.

As of now, I believe that Terry will get the money from somewhere, on the sole basis that the IRD are neither stupid nor gullible nor soft-hearted.

ETA:

[quote=the Herald]
The Inland Revenue Department appears more confident that Wellington property and football tycoon Terry Serepisos will be able to pay his debts...

As a backstop, Mr Serepisos has offered properties in Wellington and Roseneath as security for payment of the tax debt....

...today the court was assured by IRD lawyer Rocky Meng that some progress had been made.

"The Commissioner is saying he now has increased confidence the loan can be put in place in four weeks to pay all the debts."

How long is the deal with Sony, Wellington Beds and other sponsors? Im worried if we still have a club come 18th of April that the damage has been done and it will be hard to attract new ones if the others don't renew their contracts.

Why, what do you normally wear when you're searching for a picture of Eliza Dushku?

Well played indeed. (The answer to the question is for me to know and certain forumites to imagine for about ten minutes before they go to sleep.)

Buddy? Who, in this country, calls people 'Buddy' (apart from you)?

You've been watching too many American movies.

Sensitive files to be sealed forever!

Horse escapes from courtroom!

I really don't know how the f**k to take this development:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/4755260/Phoenix-deal-imminent-as-Serepisos-buys-time

Makes it sound like Sony is not in the frame for major sponsor, at least.

Oh, and the new major sponsor will be WGA. For 5 years. and the IRD think there is a chance of payment.

I'm going to just lie under a railway bridge for a while and see what happens...

My major theory is that Syed is planning to move to Welly and hide out as BlanketMan.

This is great news, pure and simple.
The IRD wouldn't be backing off without good reason. Get out from under your railway bridge, and bring out the the fever Friday. End the angst, and bring out the love for uncle Terry - the bestest Greek businessman in the land. Nippert can go suck eggs!
Lets look forward to the rest of the off season, and move to the transfer speculation thread to muse over the implausibly good players we can now link with the club for 2011/12. I heard that Mesi chap isn't too bad.
Right... back to lurking.

Hey, all the media suggests that Syed does dodgy loans, I've never heard of him doing a dodgy sponsorship deal.

(Of course, if wikifrauds.net is right, then what will happen is: Terry will announce a major sponsorship deal, Ali Syed will pay 5% of what he promises as a token of good faith, then disappear in a puff of logic and a lot of people will be very embarrassed.)

I've reverted to my initial stance - I'm skeptical, but I will trust the IRD's and Terry's judgement until April 18.

NBR have an article that suggests from title alone the IRD are happier.
Permalink Permalink
about 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Newstalk ZB are reporting that the Christchurch earthquake means IRD no longer have the resources available to liquidate and their preference is now to wait for the money.

Matt Nippert has also gone very quiet on Twitter recently. He was tweeting up a storm about Terry and WGA between 1 March and 7 March, but nothing since then. A good sign that Nippleface has nothing to gloat about at the moment?

Someone else already suggested that the big cut in interest rates might have given Terry some breathing space. Perhaps now he can afford a loan from an actual lender in this country?

But hold on, the Christchurch earthquake happened weeks ago and the IRD still seemed keen to liquidate Terry on Monday.Doloras2011-03-11 10:11:22
