Sauce or it didn't happen (the jesus wept thing - that would be hilarious)

It was an off-season.  T_X posted in response to some concise, intelligent, witty insights with the now revered phrase: "Jesus wept! Is the off-season going to be like this all the time? Mods take control."

The thread was closed and the rest is history.

I can't remember which topic it was posted under such is my shame.

Yeah, T-X spawned the phrase, and opportunists like J82 and myself then proceeded to hammer it at every opportunity. Sadly, not the first time I've been involved in thread derailment. I can still remember the magnificent transfer thread featuring the one armed QPR player.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

We were having trouble getting things fixed on the old website  and we were a little short on flexibility so we went with a re-vamp.  Unfortunately that was a train-wreck so now we use Siggy and occasionally Nik fixes shit.

Only reason Jag would of had a thread closed is because it probably was talking about spudtown either that or the old fart just wasnt making sense again.

Perhaps people are being put off by a clique group of select people taking the piss out of anyone offering an alternative answer to the question asked? And then you wonder why the numbers are dropping? Newbies read that sort of thing and just don't want to know.

Oh yeah that the word.
Clique.
Basically this^, I propose mod protection for new users!! Maybe less inside jokes and snide sarcasm and perhaps a little more constructive discussion in general and a little less pessimism. Maybe be a little tolerant of those who have not followed football for 20 or so years who don't know and correct them without the unnecessary comment.
Keep the memes, drop the clique.
Not saying your all guilty, just most of you.

That was worth 5 pages of scrolling through to be reminded of how crerberal Frankie Mac is, &  how despite not using the "Ignore" function, I still haven't won a big prize. Jesus wept.

Seriously, the drop in traffic here may also be related to evolution in the use of social media.

I'm a member on a much smaller football forum, (about 100 members). Of those 100, there were about a dozen core contributors, (yes, we were called a clique too). Of that dozen, 7 or 8 of us had our own (mostly club oriented) websites, and used the forum to exchange news and opinions. However, over the past two years, we've all added twitter accounts to our sites, and now most of our discussion happens there, to the extent that the forum is barely used.

I used to mainly come on here on matchdays to follow matches in progress, something I can do equally well on twitter, and because of who I follow there, considerably less bickering & angst.

Indeed. I am not letting anyone else claim the credit for the "Jesus Wept" meme - it is my single greatest contribution to this forum in over 5 years of posting.

The actual phrase was "Jesus wept, is the whole off-season going to be like this? Mods take control!"

I can't remember why I said it or in what context either.

Forum needs a decent search function.

Was literally just thinking that. There's a few of us on twitter who end up discussing things from the forum on there. It avoids a lot of the silly angst like "Paston sux" and you can discuss football. Even the great biscuit debate has migrated to twitter as of this morning. We tend to use the hashtag #YFForums

Don't take this the wrong way but I come to the forums about 98% less than I used to simply because I don't get email notification of replies and I don't have the time to come frequently to check on the off chance someone might have replied to me.

Which makes it really hard when I post something promising a reply, because it usually ends up being ages before I realise there is a reply. Which makes me look really slack. Which is of course only partly true.

good thread this

couple of notes of mine:

1 yes please bring back piney, where the f*ck is he?

2 jesus wept, what a meme, good times

3: my favourite times of all were the epic pax days - bring back horus

4: I've just realised that I love the in-jokes, even though I whinged about them just the other day (in this very thread I think). I take it all back.

5: I'm surprised no one has started an "Ian Hogg, come on down" thread. That's usually the way with a new signing innit? We used to care more...

We spoke about this a couple of years ago and I think it was a valid point at the time when the YF was so heavily enmeshed with the 4 kings.

However I think things have shifted and the reason for the slow down of posters on here is due to a few issues. The guys who run and moderate this site cannot be expected to keep up the intensity season after season. Life kicks in, things change, I've done unpaid Cycle Advocacy stuff for a few years and it needed a massive amount of energy to keep doing it, so I have a bit of an idea how hard it must be for the YF crew.

I've contributed less this season, because of Real Life issues that has impacted on my following the Nix and other stuff I do.

I still struggle with the new site, linking particularly seems to be a big problem, but also the ability to  no longer PM is a big pisser too.

Changes I'd make:

I would move Patrick up to Mod Status first off and get a few of the youngsters in training.

I would look at the inner circle of the YF and try and bring folk in. Again Patrick would be my first choice. Passionate, artistic,( he knows his rings so I hear),  but bright enough to be even handed. A sort of unpaid scholarship to the YF company? Feverish you are the major stake holder no?

I can't blame the down turn in traffic on any one thing but what does spring to mind is that the club has not helped in the way it's played, been presented, etc,  and we've not had a signing that inspires us or the NZ  A league footballing community  since Ifill and Rojas. We will be back we are just having a bit of a Disco Nap.
