Of course we are,he was quality. Thought bertos and Gao would be suitable replacement for midfield, but they havent settled in yet.

Id say when/if our new players settle in,then we'll fire

Was thinking the exact same thing during the game tonight. Definitely miss a player who can run at defenders.

It's a bit sad when the two most noticable runs of the game come from the centrebacks...

we dont have anyone who can confidently take on and beat their man. we are definatly missing felipe. his solo goal at the sydney football stadium had to be one of the highlights of last year

Wasn't that a great run from Durante.

Felipe had a fair bit of self confidence that is lacking in the play of Hearfield and Bertos when they get near goal and they appear afraid to give the ball a good lash. He also had a bit of passion and injected a bit of enthusiasm when he came off the bench, have yet to see any passion from Kwasnik and Gao.

Yep absolutely. Great run from Durante. And there was some good runs from Hearfield, and one good run from Gao, but then an ordinary piece of distribution.

Need an agressive attacking midfield player to lead our attack or our transition from defence to attack. Fast ball movement, or running into space on the counter. Going forward on the deck and fast.

Yes. Thought about that tonight while watching the game. He brought spark and urgency to the whole team. Its what we're missing now. The play is quite neat and generally tidy and the players are obviously good. Everything just seems to be happening at snails pace so we never get anywhere.

I think that Felipe was slightly overated but he always sparked something. We attack at a snails pace now.

Have been thinking the same thing but then I loved him, (in a manly way ), when he was here. I wonder though as he often seemed to struggle with fitness/playing 90mins what he would be like within the current set up? I have the feeling he would be as sluggish as the rest of the players are.

Where is he these days, anyone know?

Absolutely not missing him.  He was an over-rated showboater.  Scored a great goal at Sydney and then consistently under performed for the rest of the season.  Sure, he added a bit of pace but gave the ball away far too often to be any real value.  Stop living in the past and look at what we need to do now to be better.

Daniel is looking slow without him is what you mean.  Now we can see why he isn't playing at a higher level.  No pace.

Felipe is the missing link, and other players who played around him are performing poorly too. I do hope a influential marquee player is on the cards..

Spoken like a true chelsea fan?

Id rather the creative players like felipem actualy tried to attack and gave the ball away every so often, rather than passing it along the back 4 then giving it away from a long ball a we are currently doing

no. He was poor imo.

What we miss is someone/two/three who put some doubt in the opposition when we have the ball and force them into making decisions thus putting them under some pressure... not to mention the ability to retain the ball for long periods... or even several short periods lol

Not missing him.  Good technique, but poor at riding challenges and not physically up to enduring a full season once the Roar showed how to work him out.  Play a bit tough against him and he splits like the Mrs when the credit card is crackers.

i became reasonably critical of felipe second half of last season. head down and too often a lack of vision. but he added a dimension we are truly lacking at the moment. he may not be Kaka, yes, we miss him.

never bagged him but can imagine why he was not re-signed

but he could at least give me something memorable to think about even after a loss, and his goal v sydney was my personal highlight of last season

i had expected Gao to produce something a bit special

and he still might, if we can get someone to anchor the midfield like Elliot did for the AW's which ensured that Chris James received the ball with options moving off him to break up the opposition defensive ranks

imo even felipe would look lost out there under the current system the Nix are employing...players aren't transitioning from D into A anywhere near fast enough which means our MF is having to hold on to the ball far too long before distributing it.. would love to see people with pace on the flanks and providing some real width and getting in behind players (ie just what most teams are doing to Mulligan!)... we are playing too laterally at present and are rather predictable.

best thing about Felipe was after that goal against Sydney he came under a lot of heavy marking....as it was rightly percieved by other sides that he posed a risk down the middle with his pace and ball skills.

What this meant that sides had to defend down the middle against the Phoenix and it gave the wide men more space/time. This years team pose no threat down the middle of the park at all. So sides can easily defend against our wide men.....end result a blunt attack and bugger all goals.

I can remember some wonderful interplay between Felipe, Daniel and Lockhead down the left...those were the days. We scored a few goals too

Basically agree with last two posts.  Our central midfield has been all defensively minded, which has left us lacking variation.  Felipe would help.

Now let me commit the ultimate heresy.  I actually think we are missing one of the roles that Ahmed El**ch played.  He was often the transition from defence to attack (remember Felipe's goal against Perth).  To be sure El**ch could be counted on to undo any good work with a cross that resembled blindfold pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey.  The point is though we are lacking an outlet when we do recover the ball.  Possibly a role for Bertos when fit.

Noticed that El**ch is the only player that has left our midfield (regular starters). Not saying that we are missing him just putting that out there now that we have started playing this defensively.

but unlike Felipe (and to a lesser extent Clebo and George) knowone in their right mind would be brave enough to call for the return of El**ch, best to keep this thread to mourning what Felipe provided when he wasn't marked out of action.

Edit - Before anyone wants to prove their couragousness I will point out that not everyone on here has a completely "right" mind

Was never suggesting bringing him back, but we need someone to play that role (except someone that can cross) and so far no-one has shown to play that role he played.

felipe had his moments of something special but they were only ever really moments.

Gao looks to be similar in a sense, wait and see how that works out i guess

Felipe is one of the reasons i loved welly. And i was happy when he signed with gold coast cause it meant i could still enjoy seeing him, but alas, his gone missing. I might call the police and report him.

He ain't no legend yet but once he can form a partnership with a fellow midfielder (like Daniel-Felipe last season) he'll be of real value, I just havn't seen him get any electricity flowing with his teammates yet to call him a Legend.
Agreed that Hearfield still needs a bit of finetuning and for now I'd like to see Bertos on the right with Hearfield backing him up on the bench.

Rose tinted glasses are a great thing.  Felipe was no better than Gao is now, you say that he linked well with Daniel - how many games were they both playing at the same time?  I seem to remember it was a similar situation to what we do now with Gao and Daniel, one is subbed off for the other.

Felipe was lazy and not even there in some games, with the rark up that the nix have gotten in the last couple of games Gao is inserting himself into our games more and becoming that creative force in the middle.  His corners and set piece plays aren't great but Felipe's weren't either.

that's turning out to be quite a call. Didn't really get a chance to watch him last year unfortunately. Just watching the highlights he seems to have scored at least 3, and shot on numerous occasions, as well as occasionally having great vision on the pass.
