WE'RE OPENING THE NORTH BANK FOR THE DERBY !! 🎟️ The North Bank will be opened for families that want to make the most of the activities in the Family Fun Zone below 🏟️
Trying to up their crowd numbers to be larger than in Welly - 250 family passes will get them about 1000 extra people
Edit: 1st AFC game against the Roar they got 24,492 - so 1000 on top of that wouldn't beat the 26,252 in the first derby - but it will be close and maybe they get less no shows than the Roar game that could get the number higher
Either way, great for NZ football to be getting multiple matches in a season with such big crowds

As far as I'm concerned a win is mandatory. We can't lose the first two derbies or we'll never hear the end of it. A draw would be acceptable but it won't feel nearly as satisfying as getting revenge in front of their home crowd
Sure it would be great to win, but I am not looking at it as a must-win derby but rather as a difficult away game against the early leaders of the comp this season who are playing at home. Results often turn on last minute injuries so if we can field a strong squad I will feel confident. The test of their true form will be when AFC are playing away against Adelaide and Victory. May not matter if they lose away: an average Auckland punter may not care about a loss away that they did not watch. But if AFC keep winning at home in front of their patrons then they will have earned a well deserved boast, and will continue to have good crowds for their home fixtures.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
For derbies I always like it when both teams wear their colours as it adds to the rivalry. Black vs blue/black doesn't work at all imo, especially on TV.
Hopefully they'll do the right thing = Blue v Yellow

Watch both teams turn up in their away kits so we get white vs black lmao
I think we need a win to get revenge, we are good enough for a win and Auckland need to be found out. But I think a draw is a fine result against an inform team and it will be disgusting exiting that stadium if we lose.
Can someone in the know explain how we got the flag?
The Fever bought them replacement for the one they lost. #YFSpendUp
That's a classy move.
Love for the game above all else!
Will be interesting to see if the Port find it as funny as we will.
I think I challenged the original first contact to collecting for Ronald McDonald house/StarJam and got zero interest in being competitive in that way, just ‘banter’, but it might be a thing to do another time…

100% we are good enough provided all our typical starters are full fitness. We can maybe do it without Rojas starting though - I expect he'll also be playing many more minutes in the second half if required too.
Despite us going up against a superior team on the table I am fairly confident. I mean their streak has got to finish at some point. Plus, if you look at their results I think the most impressive one is the 2-0 victory against a Nix team in which we were not at full fitness and didn't have all our starters. Also, I've watched all AFC games and we have definitely been the closest to scoring against them off that Ishige header.
Their other games were: -A 2-0 win against a woeful Brisbane. Not much to say on this one, Brisbane beat themselves more than AFC beat them. -A last gasp 1-0 victory against Sydney who did not have Lolley (injured early), Costa (didn't play) and I believe another starter was out too. Plus they just came back from a mid-week game in Asia to play in NZ. Sydney looked like the walking wounded in this game. -A 1-0 win against a fairly mediocre Macarthur team. Albeit this one was away from home and I thought AFC possibly deserved another goal. -A 2-0 win against the woeful Jets where AFC did not look that convincing until the last 20 minutes. Albeit this game was heavily affected by awful weather and AFC did cope with that fairly well.
I just think despite one of the best starts in A-League history they're yet to get found out. Rather than outplaying teams they seem to grind them into the ground with superior fitness, often scoring late. Maybe this has more to say about the lack of fitness of other teams when AFC played them.
For those with time free and interested in yoof football the annual Western Springs U-17 tournament kicks off Thursday at Seddon Fields, Westmere (next to the Zoo). Ends Sunday. 24 teams in the men's pool. Nix in Pool C with ACFC, Nelson Subs, Hamilton Wanderers, Hibiscus Coast, Western Springs. Squads may include 2 guest players each. See the stars of tomorrow. (I recall seeing a pint-sized Ben Old scurrying about, ex Hibiscus Coast newly Nix). Free entry, food trucks etc. AuckFC v Nix merely a diversion. (Btw I'm not being paid for this, not even a WS supporter)
However I don’t think they are any fitter than others.
They press hard up front and their defence and midfield are units. Both full backs could easily play in the centre of defence.
I think they physically impose themselves on teams towards the end of the game and they have depth and a solid bench.
Typically though teams that press heavily apply pressure earlier in games and run out of gas later. The opposite appears to be true of AFC who are making a habit of scoring late despite being a heavy pressing team. Maybe their substitutes just know how to apply pressure late on? They do appear to have a very deep bench
The irony is that I think we actually both have similar playing philosophies, where we are patient and grind teams down.
I'm not sure their high pressing 4 triple 2 formation is at all similar to ours though. I also think they have been trying to score early but don't seem to be clicking yet.
We've played under the same formation and general philosophy with Ufuk. I think Chief's playstyle has fairly stark differences to that system.
Think the difference so far is the Nix historically stop playing and try to defend a lead then switch off defensively late and concede the vital crushing goal.
Don’t have any stats to back that up but by god that’s how it’s felt in recent seasons.
How convenient Auckland have managed to squeeze 1 more person in than attended the 1st Derby at Sky. Nix will still hold the record for biggest A League crowd for the finals game against Melbourne

No doubt it will haunt Auckland at some time.
Definitely was a lot more common under Uffie but under Chiefy we've been pretty good at holding onto leads or for the draw the only times last time we conceded late trying to hold on was away to Brisbane and CCM.
I currently have three tickets, one for me and two I want to resell (one in the away zone, one in GA), but I'd be just as happy to eat the $80 for the in-joke of knowing two went unused.
Bullshark of course when you know the numbers you have to beat. Much more believable had it been by 10 20 or 30 by one your just taking the piss.
Yeah also if full capacity is officially 26,253 you know at least 1 person will not make it to the game, usually you will get more than a few no shows even though all seats are sold. So if they actually announce attendance as 26,253 I think it will be fairly obvious that it's not accurate.
What I'm trying to say is maybe they will sell 26,253 tickets but 26,253 people won't actually show up so the official attendance should actually be lower

Re-sell the away ticket to make sure the away bay stays full - don't bother with the other for the jokes!
Here's a quote from my Facebook post looking for takers:
"One in the away zone with me (sorry): Phoenix fans only - $40
One in the GA section behind the port: Phoenix fans - $30, or Auckland fans - $130"

Do we really care? What is it about our obsession with crowd numbers? I’d rather have three points from beating the scum than worrying about some record crowd.

Honestly dont think its an obsession with crowd numbers if you recall its been shoved down our throats for friggen ages. Any wonder some get a bit touchy about it. Especially when the new team on the block with their 1 million plus population try's to stick it up us.

I have no problem with the teams competing for attendance numbers. The fact that they're doing this shows a strong appetite for the game in NZ. Long may it continue
