Honestly can't believe how close we are to our first game of the season, feels like it's only been a few weeks since we unfortunately ended our season losing to WU.  It's a shame Ball is still struggling but he has plenty of time to get himself back to 100% for the A-League season where we will need his strength and experience. Excited to see how Kraev does.

Hopefully, Ball's injury is completely unrelated to what he had last season and more just an unlucky coincidence

Still the same injury unfortunately.

He did play with it for several weeks towards the backend of 21/22. Hopefully he hasn't really crocked himself as a result 🤞

Is Ugarkovic cup tied?  He did play for WSW in what was effectively a Round of 64 clash?

Excited to see Noah play. Amazing feet/dribbler.

If he can learn to stay involved in games we might have another Singh on our hands.

Likely XI if Ball and Rufer are injured and Ugarkovic is cup tied? Thinking Kraev maybe gets a half at most since he’s been doing a lot of fitness work in training at the moment.

Hopefully Paulsen gets the nod to get some game time before the regular season begins. Especially after this heroics in the cup last season.

Good shout, especially with Sail having played a good chunk of the off season so far with the All Whites

Okay I don’t get the joke. Who is Karunaratne? Don’t know the academy squads or nuttin’.

Edit: ahh, young guy called Noah! Reading comp. Just saw Bally was still injured and blocked out everything else!

Our season looks like a flutter on Kosta and Kraev. If the goals don't come from these guys then it's going to be a struggle.

I was looking at that potential signing last night Yan Sasse and he has a mean strike on him, can score on tight angles with power alone.

We are also signing an out and out striker and Waino continues to improve so I don't think we should have to worry too much about relying on Kraev and an aging Kosta.

He also said we would start with out strongest and fittest eleven that are available.  So, in my mind that is Sail, Payne, Wootten, Laws, Sutts, Lewis, Pennington, Old, Kosta, Waineo and who?

Kraev in the midfield and Kosta up top will be our strongest 11 we can field.

Annoying we have to wait another time to see Ugarkovic in action for us, but the fact we still have Lewis and Pennington plus Manuel and Karunaratne standing by shows how many options we have in our central midfield compared to the later stages of last season.

Some nice Welly type weather awaits. It won't be pretty football methinks, could be ugly as hell. Wind roaring in off Bass Strait.

Talay confirmed Kraev would see his first minutes against the semi-professional side, who have former Phoenix goalkeeper Keegan Smith in their ranks, but likely from the bench after only arriving in New Zealand a fortnight ago.

“He’s only been with us a short time so we don’t expect him to start and play 90 minutes but we will try to give him some minutes within the game.

“He’s doing some extra stuff, obviously to try and catch up with where the rest of the boys are currently at but he’s looking good and has settled in quite well.”

Taly is right - this will be a tough one, playing a side who are in mid-season and playing very well, with a dangerous strike force.

Hadn't heard that Old was injured, thats a concern with no Ball, and it sounding like Kraev's only good for half a game.

I'm not up with the play on the Academy kids, by my reckoning two of the five below are going to need to start in either the wide ten or number nine role (depending on whether Kosta plays as a 9 or 10).  I imagine OVH takes one of those spots, who gets the other?

Lorenz is a LB and Manuel a DM so presumably Waine and Bidois up top, OVH and Kosta wide 10s. Unless Karunaratne has really impressed in which case it would probably be Waine + Kosta ST, OVH + Karunaratne wide 10s.

Interesting that Ball is listed as #10 there. Maybe it was a condition of our new striker's contract that he gets the 9 jersey

How stupid is the cup-tie crap. So Stevey and Lucas get their whole preseason kneecapped because they don't have a better way of organising those playoffs than right at the end of the season? Absurd bullsh*t.

The cup should begin at Round of 64 and include every A-League team.

Exactly I understand the cup tie rule for like a January transfer window but makes no sense when it counts from a previous season. Either they don’t count that to the cup tie rule or organize the games not during the previous season. Classic FFA mess.
