Why does Nagasawa still have the armband?

Phoenix are at rock bottom and the owners are hoping that by doing absolutely nothing it's going to magically get better.

Oof.
The problem is they did nothing to counter AFC joining. Tonight is an embarrassment and Dome should go.

The owners have written off this season, I think we can as well.

Hate to be so negative early, but eze looks shark… got beaten twice, poor first touch, oh boy
I did mention he looked like Sasse when he first signed when you compared the highlights. Everyone here seemed fairly enthralled by the highlights though - or at least a little too hopeful. I haven't seen anything to prove me wrong just yet.

Give him a chance though and all that I guess. I thought Sasse had buckets of potential but never quite found it in the ALeague. Hoping Eze will be different

Unlike others here, I've not had on Rose tinted glasses with this dude. I think he's a dud and only time will prove if I'm wrong.

Commentators on the money. One of the longest off seasons, no excuse to be playing like this

Wish we had just lost to Brisbane. Save us the embarrassment
Would have been the best result to just lose on pens in Perth. At least there would be a bit of positivity in that.

Good point by Harper on the disjointed pre-season excuse.. "I'm not buying that argument, it's the longest off season in world football"

the commentator said Chiefy stated that A-League teams shouldn't be losing these. not sure how accurate but oof.

seen a few chipped speculator passes today. is that symptomatic of there being no real plan or openings up top?

Always the kicker with highlights. They never show the lowlights

And then what?

Hard to see Twose or Astle or even Danny Morrison in shades saving anything from this.
Depressing.
Chief needed a sub at least at half.

That’s any positives of the cup run flushed. Should have come out swinging with our best team. Now we put our pre-season new transfers up against a very confident team and everyone got squashed.

Phhhh.

Management have written of the men’s team and put all their eggs into the ladies team this year in a last ditch attempt to justify their jobs.

4-0 is not a fitness difference, it's an unacceptable result. Been coached off the park by superior game plan and mentality by semi pros with real jobs.

There is no world in which a pro footballer will be happy with Chiefy as a coach, he will lose the room fast.

This is our third competitive match. No excuse for preseason jitters now.

Chelfy and Dome OUT.

Edit:
And replace Chiefy with Heidelberg's coach.

Here's a question for everyone:

1. If Heidelberg played WSW another 10 times, how many would you bet on WSW winning?
2. What about if they played Nix another 10 times?

This is the biggest result for a npl side vs a league team, and we have now lost to 4 npl teams in the cup, most by any team. Historically bad

I want to see a venomous strike from someone in our team. See the goal and smash it low and hard and with a bit of anger and desire to score.

Though to be fair if the Wahinix can win the league and pack out the stadium while doing so, I'll probably forgive them, at least for a season.

Their is a reason why Kosta didn't re-sign and looking at all the NZ Super Rugby teams will give you the answer.

Almost as bad as our record in finals.

We went over 40 minutes without a single shot, and we're almost at the full 90 and we've had just one on target. I don't care that we're in pre-season and Heidelberg are an experienced and well oiled unit. This is our 4th match in the past month, and we've had 6 weeks of training. If we're not in the bottom 2 or 3 this season I will be amazed. Remember when losing 1-0 to bentleigh greens or to the Strikers on pens was embarrassing?

We were doomed as soon as we figured out we weren't going to be able to dump the imports. Nagasawa and Ishige are painfully average.

Not sure who was more shark: The ref or the Nix. Both poor and both A League fixtures.

Ive seen 2 comments now asking for this. I agree this is quite awful but do you guys genuinely believe this will happen? Has anyone ever been fired over an Aus cup loss?

No Aleague team really cares about it until they get to the semis

  • Embarrassing and sad. A 2-1 loss heck even a 2-0 loss is somewhat digestible. What has improved since last season on this display?. One could put it down to pre season this and motivation that but it’s not a good look for the team. Chiefy should be praying he’ll survive till  mid season

(could also be applied to the ref, but that is no excuse. He was a Shocker)

How can they expect anyone (even die-hard fans like us) to show up and pay good money to continue to watch us lose like this.

Only silver lining for me is 30 mins in the first half we looked alright, and LBS had his best game that I've seen. Otherwise, it's all more of the same and nothing to be excited for, for the new season.

Heidelberg won't. AFC already have a different mentality unfortunately.

He’s always like that with us, but 4-0 and hardly a shot.

They are an experience and well oiled unit, that also all have full time jobs outside of football. And still made us look like the amateur side.

Payne needs to step up in his attitude, leadership and fitness if he wants to be considered for the All Whites.

teams do it quite often to bypass the press - don't have to be wedded to playing through all the time. Means teams can't just push up very aggressively.

I have no idea what the second part of that means, but I can understand in terms of Kosta not re-signing. I'm sure Chiefy knows his shark, and is probably a great analyst and assistant, but his first season got papered over by what was very accidentally the greatest team in Nix history. Surman and Paulsen. Old and Kraev. Zawada and Kosta.
