Back on track

Very happy for Greenie to be given this opportunity

Hope he does well with it, and coaches some kiwi youth into some European leagues

Really dont see how this is bad for the club, if Ricki believes Greenie is the  best for the club, than i 100% agree with him. In Ricki i trust

After winning the league this year by a record distance, by playing quick fluid attacking football, Ricki will be off to chelsea next year, while greeny will take over the job here.

Great move! Greenacre is a top bloke, played in some handy leagues and would help plenty of young strikers. Like everyone has mentioned, his game time might be limited, but this way he will still be able to add plenty.

Now lets sign some young kiwi strikers!

Yeah I reckon its smart, foster him into a better assistant coach for a season then get him into full assistant where for 2012/13 and get a young guy and train him up a bit.

Interesting discussion this evening.

Firstly - congratulations Greenie, good to see you in a new role (plus the same) and a chance to get some experience for the next stage of a football career.

Secondly - this is a gamble for the club. Clearly we don't have the financial resources that we used to have, but more importantly this is Greenie's first cut at being a gaffer, and remember this is the space that he will be filling.

I think Greenie certainly has a lot of experience to draw upon and he strikes me as having the temperament and lack of ego that will help rather than hinder his move into coaching.

So best wishes in your new role- maybe as a first coaching tip you could watch Joe Jordan give Gattuso some training tips in San Siro earlier this year.

(I've heard the phrase f*****g Aussie b*****d gets the best out of players)

Not just you

yes you are, according to the page that is always referred to when people ask "Who are the Mods?"

Even if you're not, it is still all that rubbish I mentioned that sends this forum into a massive slide at times. Not just talking about you...obviously. I was only pointing out that it was hypocritical of you to say what you did.

J82 - the article you've linked to there just about sums it up. Trani was one of a kind and it was always going to be a challenge to find a like for like replacement.

Let's not forget, however, that when we first got Trani a lot of people were going "who?".

Preceeding him were Stu Jacobs and Wayne Sullivan.

Under the circumstances I'm happy about this appointment. Ricki is still the head coach and will obviously be more hands on this season (and plenty of people were complaining that he wasn't doing enough of that last year).

My 2 cents worth...

Congrat Greenie. Great to see that you're committed to the club in times of financial uncertanty. You're an asset to the club. If more of the YF shared your belief in the club then the world would be a happier place.

Also, I sincerely hope the club look at a similar role for Iffy when his playing days are over. Would be a travisty if we were to lose all that passion for the game of football.

Long live the Greenie-Diddy-Iffy sandwich!!!

I am positive about this move. First of all, I think the role of coaches and assistants is overrated anyway. So a guy who has spent his whole life playing the game could do the job as well as those who only studied it on school books.
Greenacre also knows the place, the players, the tactics Ricky wants to use etc. Surely Luc Trani was a seasoned professional and a skilled coach - but let's look at the results, ilhavinfnabguy who knows heaps about the game with his laptop full of information won't necessarily win you games..no matter how good he is!
Good luck to Chris - I hope ge cab still play and bang Em in for us by the truck load

And let's face it, we certainly do need some coaching upfront. We have a habit of being solid at the back but unable to finish a sandwich. Let's hope Greeny can help.
