I think this is a real shame. He's looked decent and dangerous when he's had game time. Have often thought he should have played more, especially given our weakness in the position. Hope he does really well at Brisbane.

Good on him. Not getting much game time here. We have experienced wingers and strikers here in front of him - Phoenix have provided a shop window for him to be picked up elsewhere. Hope he does well there (except against us).

i think its great news for two reasons:

1.) ricki's exposed a 'new' kiwi to professional football and hes wanted by other clubs. success.

2.) makes room in the nix for another kiwi youth player to be exposed for all the world to see. success again.

if ricki can get young kiwis into the nix and out into the world of football every two years, think of the future for the game in nz.

Good outcome for everybody concerned.

wow. Surprising. Not sure why they would use an import spot on him.  Unless he qualifies for Aust citizenship.

Yea, the news itself is good for him. I just think we may have missed a trick by not playing him more and having him as a good first team player.

good on him!!! great move for him. more gametime with atleast the youth league and will be better for the All whites because of it.

now who's next for us?

with no youth team and limited game time here, he was bound to move.
BTW Colvinator, say hello to the Bruiser Ingles fur me.

good move for all concerned imo.

Think the club was developing faster than he was personally, so will be good for him to get some game time.

I'm worried that he is essentially taking Robbie Kruse's spot at the roar though

You are missing the point. The bloke was God to you supporters, now he is a nob? You know f**k all about football. It is only the fact that he left, that you are pissed off. Grow up?

You've jumped on board, and ready to bait pretty quick huh? What got your goat in this thread? I'm happy that Barbs has gone to Brisbane, no game time at the nix, good player, hopefully gets some game time across the ditch, maybe a good wee All White etc. etc. etc.

You came on and started talking about Shane Smeltz. So, I would ask what your point was, but I don't want to stoke your flames and further there buddy

Have a feeling he is the TOP goal scorer in the A league?

Shane smeltz has scored 0 against the Phoenix. As has his whole team this season.
The Phoenix have scored 7 against his team this season.

Leggy you are the nob, not Smeltz

Good luck to Costa - talented young player who, I think and hope, will benefit from the change.

Not really sure how good he is or could be but I think there is more chance of him realising his potential with another team.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

The best indicator is, I feel, that he is a foreign player there. Which means they wouldn't waste it so intend on playing him. Which frees up a spot at the Nix (hopefully we dont use it on an aussie!)

Could it be that he signed for the Phoenix because of Uncle Greek Terry, and Ricki didn't rate him as highly?

Good move I think. If they've used an import spot on him then they must see something there, hopefully he gets some solid game time.

Its just a real shame we dont have a youth side here. He may have gotten more gametime that way,so is a good move for him.

Allegedly

Good luck to him and I wish that he scores a lot of goals, except against us where I hope he has a drought.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Interesting you mention that. I've heard that by a few people who had played against Costa before. But from what I had seen he looked the goods compared to other youth players in NZ.

A bit disappointed to see him go. I really loved seeing a young, talented Kiwi guy tearing it up for the Nix. He did some great work last season and earlier this season, and you just had the feeling that another few full games in tandem with Ifill (they worked well together) might see him step up to that next level.

Uncle Greek Terry didn't sign him for NZ at age group level or hand him his All Whites debut against Fiji.

Doubtful. like i said earlier, its just part of rickis plan to get more kiwi talent out there. im willing to bet that even if costa was playing regularly he still wouldve been on his way somewhere else. Now Ricki can sign a new young kiwi in the hope of similar success. Hes probably going to try and do this as much as he can. I would.

good move,  he wasn't gonna get any game time with us especially with no youth team. Hopefully he'll get more game time, improve and be better for the all whites.

Mulligan is an  "All White".

More good news for Costa, though he probably knew, Van Dyk is leaving for Adelaide so I think he may see a bit of gametime. I wonder if he can squeeze into the world cup squad - possibly should have waited for a move till after that? If he got some sneaky gametime he could show the world what he can do.

No question he has unbelievable talent. But it seems Ricki wasn't really prepared to "risk" playing youth much. Hope it was done on the best terms so relationshiop with Ricki is good.
