Perhaps the fact that the players designed the shirts is the point of difference

That is quite cool, I wasn't aware of that. Were they allowed to put their own (small) personal touch on their own shirt? That'd make the shirts even more valuable.
Err what kind of "touch" were you thinking of?

Ok for me but why weren't the adidas stripes in the same yellow as the adidas logo? Would have looked so much better IMO.
How much will the shirts go for? Ifill's already up to $500 lol
If you want a cheap one Pav and other non-playing squad players have shirts too (probably had to do them weeks out not knowing who was actually going to play.
Yep - although wasn't what you'd call a black out in the crowd.
Slightly disappointed that there weren't any collection buckets that I could see in the teeming 13k mass. My cash stayed in the wallet.
Also rather strange that we were asked to look for someone's credit card twice (didn't find it - twice).

J82, I suspect that buckets aren't always practical especially for huge crowds in terms of staffing and accountability. Just a guess.

So if this theme was for charridy, other than bidding on trademe for sweaty black shirts, what other benefit does the organisation get?
There were bucket collectors for ChCh at one game.

The shirts have been online a few hours and already the bids exceed $6000. "Other than the shirts" may be missing the point.

Well said El G !
For Years I've been complaining to Mrs Redged "I can't see the f**kn clock. Why do we have a stupid clock that looks like that ??"
That was great to see the the time clearly today.Well done who ever sorted it.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Maybe there should be a secondary countdown clock so that the entire stadium can count it down from 10 in time? To the tune of Go West maybe?

It's because the new clock turns black after ninety!
We were there yesterday as always, and I honestly couldn't see any major difference from any other home game. There were a bunch of Sunderland-supporting willowy young beauties in peculiar shoes encouraging people to bet (the shame of it!) , there seemed to be a lot more kids, I saw the South African Sevens team, and Auckland FC (looking pretty miserable as it happens) were there.
Oh, and we had the greatest game and win of the season.
Perhaps the marketing triumph in this game was to;
(1) Change nothing,
(2) Achieve approximately bugger all, and
(3) Realise and accept that the way to get bigger crowds is to win more games.
I hope Gareth didn't pay AbFab Marketing Inc a lot of dollars, because they made no difference whatsoever, so far as we could tell.
We still won though, we're second in the League, and the sun is shining

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........
Independent of winning form there were certainly other factors at play. ahmad2012-01-30 09:44:29

sh*te. Bugger. Quite right. Sorry Toons

I respectfully disagree with your respectful disagreement
. You said it yourself, we've had great winning runs before (that's what got the crowds in). As per my original contention, winning=crowds.Unoriginal faux-Rugby marketing made next to bugger all difference. I will just need to confirm this with my sources though......

I'm happy that you agree we've had winning runs before. That's good common ground to find so we don't have to have a boring discussion about whether that's a fact or not.
So given that fact that we both agree on, pray tell the last time there were 13,000+ outside of final at Westpac?

Am glad another person agrees that the crowd was not entirely due to winning form.

Those that hated the Black Out theme will put the crowd attendance purely down to winning form, ignoring that this is the biggest crowd of the season by at least 50%.
However I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who embraced the Black Out as a one-off marketing promo, that would put the crowd purely down to the marketing.
