how can anybody not think that booing smeltzy was all in fun, I'm sure he expected it! and just to show there was no ahrd feelings he waved when we asked and clapped us when he came off. What kind of newbie comes on to YF just to moan at us booing an explayer wholeft us for money and sunshine. I can't wait till the melbourne home game.

I notice that when Shane got the ball watching on TV the crowd seemed to be booing. Now if this so, I think we should have more respect for the best A league striker and ALL WHITE striker who we have massive hopes for.

Err... you don't watch much football, do you?  To take a comparable example, Sergio Ramos doesn't get much "respect" from Sevilla fans when he's not in national colours.

In other words: this is completely normal.  Smeltz expected and welcomed it.  He appeared far more irritated by the poor performance of other GCU players - feel free to dress them down for not treating Smeltz with "respect" by playing so badly.

Should we boo Durante, McKain, Muscat etc because they are Australian?

Quite right too....Smeltz would have expected to get sh*t today...and he duly got it and played it(our defence tied him good and proper) and I for one will be a smeltz supported when he dons the all whites kit for the Bahrain game.... and as for you mossy, I cant wait for the Melbourne game

Before the match I was sort of unsure about the booing of Smeltz, but when it went on I wasn't bothered. We were a crowd upset he left us, letting him know that. Anything making it hostile for the away team must be a good thing for us as a home crowd. He gave us a wave when they were 5-0 down so he obviously took it in good heart. He knows we'll love him when he bangs in the goals to beat Bahrain in 3 weeks. C'MON SMELTZY. (but Hey Smeltz, what was the score?).

Well done Smeltz for clapping the fans as he left the field.

He's earned a big round of We love you Smeltzie, we do, on the 14th.

I know, I know, its serious!

Tha chants to the GC and to Smeltz were gold last night, they were loud and proud and timing was perfect. Even Smeltzy could tell by 3 or 4-0 that it was time to be less serious as the game had gone, so he kicked an air ball to make us laff.
I think he seriously wanted to walk off near last with Ricki to be a bit more safe from abuse and we got a clap instead, class.

Players leave, you can't keep them all or your own team would never move forward. It is an ever evolving process.

Smeltzy even said it, we wouldn't be 'true' fans if we didn't boo him.

It was the Nix who revived his career, a career that was going nowhere. He scores 2x against Wales and we gave him a 2-year deal. At the same, some actually questioned the move.

But heck, all in good fun.

Come the 14th, we'll all love him if he sends us to South Africa

Upon reflection of that 6-0 win, I give big ups to Smeltz.

He was trying to be competitive despite us having him under lock and key. He behaved professionally on the field and he showed respect to the fans and took our jeering on the chin. A true professional whom got on with it.

Yesterday Smeltz fronted up and showed some true class. Come November 14, he's gonna get a welcome becoming of such class.

That is a very good point. I think many players would have snapped, I remember one time he got pushed over from behind and the ref didn't call it. It shows maturity and composure which Arab nations are reknowned for not having. If we beat Bahrain you can almost guarantee they will get a man sent off.

If Smeltz can wave to us in the middle of the game, I'm sure he didn't really care.

It was all good fun anyway.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Ditto.

I actually laid off the first boo and then later thought naa - it's all fair game.

Also RM - the fact that he is the leading A-League striker means jack sh!t. Being an AW is partly mitigating but not totally relevant as they are completely different comps.

Actually Junior, you raise an interesting point. Smeltz has played against us twice and we have kept him scoreless. The top scorer in the League. Well done to the Nix defence.

He left because he knew that Paston was going to release the beast inside of himself this season. Paston is playing as good if not better then Moss ever has for the Nix and Moss is just falling apart at Melbourne.
