no real hurry to get Lia back in even though he is the man.

Diego did enough to get another chance, plus Manny is only 1 card away from having a week off so Lia will probably be called up for RB or maybe Hearfield.

When Manny does miss a week I think it'll be a chance for Mulli to get on the Bench, but would prefer Rojas.

He'll only go to RB if Brown isn't suspended. Brown is on 4 and is usually pretty likely to get a yellow at some point. Even then, RH may put Troy there. Or possibly, if McKain is ready, shift Dura out.

where does it say that Brown is on 4 yellows? I got my facts from the nix website.

The same site that has Jeremy Christie on the team roster, and says Caceres wears the number 10 shirt. Though I got my stats from the team Wiki page. So not that reliable either !

And the Phoenix site has Muscat on 3 yellows so two away from suspension.

Sadly the FFA pretty much control that part of the website.  Not surprisingly it's crap.

Yeah, it is really badly run. Can never rely on it for up to date stats.

Just tallied up the YCs from the match reports on the nix site:

McKain, Bertos, Chen, Greenacre - 1 each
Lochhead, Ferrante, Ifill, Sigmund - 2 each
Muscat, Durante - 3 each
BROWN - 4
Lia - 5

If some idiot ref hadn't booked him for having a dig then we wouldn't even need to worry. bloody a league refs

Maybe a bit lucky he didn't get another one yesterday when he was blown for offside but took a shot after the whistle, which all the refs have been tough on so far. Green either gave him the benefit of the doubt or missed it due to heat exhaustion.

Actually, credit to the ref, he did well. Must've been bloody atrocious for him out there.

So what are the odds we play Diego again in this game, give Lia some bench time to rest up and get his hunger back for the Melbourne game?

I'd say on Diego's efforts in Newcastle, he's at least earned some bench time. But who to drop out, Hearfield?

I think we need to be wary of the fact that Brown might get a card in Brisbane, so starting Diego with Lia on the bench might not be such a bad idea.

Yeah, I know, I'm talking crazy.

Hmm you're tthinking is logical. But I don't know if its the right call. In my opinion, Diego did not show that he can knock any of the starters off their spot, so I wouldn't be leaving Lia on the bench at all. He's definitely gonna be fresh. And one would have to drop Hearfield or Caceres for Diego to make the bench, but thats a tough call, seeing as Caceres has played well many times coming on with the limited time he has had.

True. I think Daniel had played the most minutes of all of them, (maybe not Paston but it'd be close) so I think he does deserve some credit as he has been defending well as well

maybe the wrong thread for this question, but does a special ticket need to be purchased to sit in the fever zone? or can anyone pop on in?

I was wanting to come along to the next home match, but would love to sit(stand) with the fever, making noise... any help?

Vinnie Lia to come back into the starting XI beside Brown. We cant start dropping people because we're worried that they 'might' get a yellow card.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Correct and not a fan of "freshening up" when we're 6th and on a roll. Best team - every time!

Yet we rested Bertos on the bench, and he has come back playing much better :)

Either way, was just an idea. Would be good for the team to have more performing midfielders, and more people getting some game time.

Note: I didn't suggest to drop Brown, just give Diego game time, with Lia on the bench.Ard Righ2009-11-24 13:36:45

Leo was 'rested'  because he was pretty much a non-entity for the 3 weeks prior.

Yeah, Leo was rested but his game had been very quiet prior to that. Lia has been brilliant. Has a week off through suspension. I say he goes back into the team.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this but -
a/ Are Phoenix fans meeting anywhere before the game in Brisbane on Sunday? And are we "Away Support Bay" (pretty obvious/ but you never know)?
b/ Can you get in the game at Palmy using your season ticket card? (I can't see anything advertised re tickets for this game - I feel I've maybe missed something).

Think that Diego did just almost as well as Lia - had a few good long passes also, and showed very good discipline in hot conditions playing in a reasonably unfamiliar position - but Lia can do all that and is a bit better in defence. valeo2009-11-24 21:48:27

Special needs - yes

I also got a paper ticket for Palmy - from Ticketek at Michael Fowler

Put Marco on the bench. Some real pace and flair to counter the Roar's.

Playing one of the weakest players in the league against the Roar strikes me as unwise.

I'd have the same line-up as last week but Lia in for Diego.  The only real debate seems to be on who makes the bench.  For this one I'd pick:

Subs:
Crowther
Caceres
Hearfield
Barbarouses

A question regarding suspensions.  I know that once a player gets five yellows they miss a game, but after that do they next get suspended if they get another five yellows or is it a lesser number?

Regarding Marco , he has only ever travelled away with the team once, Hes like Tommy Oar for Brisbane, he hardly ever goes away with Brisbane but comes off the bench a bit at home. I think its just an age factor
Taken from the A-League site:
5.2 FFA must specify that a Player who accumulates a certain number of Yellow Cards
during the course of the A-League must serve a mandatory match suspension.
5.3 Further to clause 5.2, unless otherwise specified in the A-League competition rules, a
Player who accumulates the following number of Yellow Cards during the course of
the Regular Season, must serve the following mandatory match suspensions:
(a) from Round 1 to Round 21 of the Regular Season, five (5) Yellow Cards
equates to a one (1) match suspension;
(b) eight (8) Yellow Cards during the Regular Season equates to a two (2) match
suspension. For every three Yellow Cards thereafter, a two (2) match
suspension. (For example, two (2) match suspension for 11 Yellow Cards and
14 Yellow Cards)
5.4 Further to clause 5.2, unless otherwise specified in the A-League competition rules, a
Player who accumulates three (3) Yellow Cards during the course of the Finals
Series, must serve a mandatory one (1) match suspension.

So 8 yellow cards is a 2-game suspension, then every 3 yellows after that is another 2-game suspension.

Let's hope we don't have anyone collect 8 yellows.

The 3 yellows in the Finals would be important for the teams finishing top 2, as they play the most games in the Finals under the 2009/10 setup - Home & Away Semi finals, then Preliminary Final/Grand Final combination (depending on results).Ard Righ2009-11-25 09:00:00
