He didn't appear to do too much on what game time he did get. Sorry but the club is now in a position where it can look for real quality players and those that were grabbed in a hurray and later found out, are or have been going. Lonegunmen2008-03-04 12:22:01
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

He still provided one of the best moments of the season - that rugby tackle against Newcastle was superb.

sad to see him go, good luck brownlie, just a shame you didnt get a chance.

You'd think one of the Newbies would be interested in him

Funny how things swing on small moments - imagine if that shot against Melbourne had gone in, instead of hitting the post - it might have taken him down a completely different path....

How does the salary thing work with him. Brownlie had a year to go on his contract, so did the club have to pay him out and won't that money come out of the salary cap?

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

This has the makings of a very expensive season, all the players we're paying out - and of course the new faces we bring in

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Good move. Never showed he was up to A-league level.

I assume a new striker is therefore locked and loaded if Brownlie is being release with 1 year to go...I wait with anticapation.

Thanks for being involved in the foundation year Roycee...you should give the Galaxy a call since you'll be living up the road.

He was probably released by his request officially and been paid out through the back door to avoind the salary cap. A bit dodgy but not uncommon.

Its no longer a problem.

would have been nice to see him get a start and see his goods. Pretty tough when you are on the outer with a club and you have a family to support i expect

Seeing as Brisbane currently have approximately no strikers (many would claim that with Lynch and Reinaldo this is no major change), he might be a chance of a return.

I doubt it.
Failed at QR, failed in League Two, and now failed at WPFC. Is he up to it?

At best he could hope for a backup role at a new franchise I think. But even then Miron was the one who cut him at QRFC so why would he get him in at GCG?

Money is on a central midfielder and striker to come yet...

But with Aloisi, Johnson and Lia all off-contract on June 30th, how many of them will stay?

17 players confirmed  for next season. With Porter seemingly all-but-confirmed that would be 18, then the three in limbo above, and a right-back and playmaker to come.

Lia better be back next year.

It looks like his contract was terminated by mutual consent, which means that he generally would not have to be paid a full second season's salary. It is even possible (and the article stating that he wanted to focus on his family and out of football opportunities bear this out) that Brownlie looked for a release from his contract in which case the amount paid out may be very small indeed.

I'm very pleased about this, it increases the opportunities for Costa, indicates that Porter is highly likely to be signed and also sets a precedent for getting rid of other players still under contract like Old.

I hope Lia gets resigned, not so concerned about Johnson or Aloisi, but of course it all depends on who we could bring in to replace them. If Terry, Tony and Ricki continue to make signings of the quality they have made so far I hope we do bring in even more new faces.

if they gave points for dodgyness Sydney would have to be points clear at the top - how can they afford their squad within the cap - even with aloisi under the Marquee conditions?

They have a lot of rubbish there though tigers.  Aloisi, Colosimo and Bridge, big $$.  Popovic, Corica, Brosque, Milligan, Bolton a bit.  Then you have the likes of Fyfe, McFlynn, Talay, Middleby, Casey, Biddle, Santalab, Timpano, Patrick, Nacevski, Enfield who can't be on much.

Bridges came from the UK on the injury loophole (like Aloisi at the Mariners), and unless they manage something shifty Juninho will go now they have used the Marquee spot.

I quite liked Brownlie.  To be honest he didn't play badly when he came on, and that (rugby) tackle was class, absolute class.  Having said that, I (obviously) never saw him in training and for all I know he could have been horrendous.

Interesting point somebody made earlier though, if he had not hit the post but scored against Melbourne then his season could have been much better.

Wouldn't say he failed with the Roar in the first season - scored a few and moved to Romania for first team football - alos scored a few for Swindon from memory

Actually heard it from you about 4th, after the Brisbane and now Sydney papers.

PROAK... Brosque was the clogs leading scorer in V1, but they scored so few you could be forgiven for forgetting.

Rumour has it that rather pack up and move, he's signed with the Hurricanes

Best of luck Royce! Hope your next move works out better for you...unless you move to anywhere in the A-League (other than Wollongong)

Scored three goals or so in Season one and was released by the Queensland Rort. Then went on to Swindon, and I believe was loaned out to Chester (both substantial failures, aside from the odd goal), before heading to the Nix - where he has failed.
