Happy with Caceras as it aids depth to our squad if injuries happen.
Daniels so unlucky. He looked good against Brisbane and put in a great cross to set up the goal. Would like to see him and Caceras start against Adeliade. Use a diamond formation. Mckain Defensive Midfielder, Caceras Attacking Midfielder and Bertos and Daniel out wide.

Diego and Daniel will be pissed, and rightly so, if Caceres makes the first 11.

Caceres comes here expecting a starting spot but I don't see where he will fit. For Ferrante? Defending is the one thing Ferrante does reasonably well most of the time - Caceres can't tackle or track back if his life depended on it.

Caceres is an impact player at best.

I have wondered why Ricki has not tried the diamond midfield formation.

Impact player means he'll get the last 10 minutes to score 2 or more goals in a come from behind and win game.

Pretty much. I saw a lot of Caceres at Melbourne. Never seen a player drift in and out of games so often. Doesn't work very hard either. Definately has a good amount of flair when he actually wants to use it though.

I do think he could give Diego that added kick of motivation. At least he has the quality.

Will be great if he comes out guns blazing and owns it for us

Nothing like some south american rivalry.

I agree with the comments around an oversupply of midfielders...a squad player the article said.  Well unless the squad gets an overhaul and used more off the bench then it aint going to work.  I feel more and more sorry for Costa and Rojas....less prospect of game time.  I would go to 4-4-2 with 2 dedicated DMs and 2 AMs.....Bertos and either Costa/Rojas or Caceres as the other AM.

The Sydney game clearly evidenced last years faults of insufficient attack options.

we seem to keep signing players with the tag Attacking midfielder........and then they dont because they have no support from the centre of the park.....IMO we need a central holding midfielder more

I feel for Costa, but Rojas is a schoolboy who wasn't even a regular for Waikato FC in the NZFC....why does everyone think he'll suddenly set the A-League on fire....or even make a solid contribution?  What is this faith based on?

You can sign as many attacking midfielders as you want, but if you don't play any in your formation it would seem they are a waste of money to me. but maybe I'm missing something.

Dont know this guy. But seems odd he cannot start in Central Coast, but is expecting to play/start Here.

There is a lot of players for only a few spots. I guess we will be applauding the signing, if we pick up a few injuries.

Bring on Friday

I reckon this guy is a swap for a sick Diego......3 weeks ago Diego was nearly on the surgeons table to sort out a pancreas??? problem. He looked really out of sorts against Sydney. I think it is a case that Diego is in need of some major medical work.
Carecas is probably a bit of insurance if Diego is out of action for a long time.
Tough for Diego but hopefully he gets fully fit and can contribute later.

As for Carecas....time will tell but I personally feel we should have bought in SIMON ELLIOT.
He'sthe sort of central midfielder we need.

I reckon try him on the left something like this

                Greenacre  Ifill

Caceres           Diego          Bertos

                       Mckain
Lochhead                          Muscat
             Durante    Sigmund
                      Paston

Crowther
Daniel
Lia
Hearfield

when he does start that is...won't be an "if" I reckon.

He's due here wednesday? So i doubt he will start (maby on the  bench to start off with?). Personally i would like to see Chen and Daniel given more game time this week.

Hope nothing serious wrong with Diego, whilst he was poor in the first half that normally means you are not subbed until at least the 80th minute. Based on the "you were crap for the first forty minutes" approach Lochead, Durrante, Ferrante and Brown can all count themselves fortunate not to have had the hook before half time.

If Diego's health is not right then surely it wasn't right on Sunday and then why did he start. Caceres negotiations must have been taking place over the weekend, so cannot see how they can be related to cover for Diego.

We need someone in the centre midfield who wants the ball, shows for it and can receive/pass it. Sounds simple but even with a full looking roster of potential midfielders to choose from few if any fit that bill (or live up to it). The one that does is Ifill, but we need someone up front to support Greenacre and unless RH unleashes Costa/Chen alongside Greenacre allowing Ifill to fill that role then Ifill is needed upfront.

We could have Torres & Rooney up front but if they don't get the ball they won't score goals.

As I said earlier, I'm with you guys on this. There were touches where Diego's ball holding ability shone through Sunday night but there are health issues for sure.
Caceres is cover for the team. With playoffs coming up management want midfield experience over enthusiasm, by the looks of it.

He got through 90 minutes in last two games, so the health issue thing is a puzzle. By the way he trudged off on Sunday he looked mightily pissed off rather than sick. As I mentioned then, if he had health issues, why start?
He may have a long term problem, but that was obvious at Adelaide

Maybe if Chen turns out ok him and greenacre could play up front and Ifill could create in behind them and occasionally out wide....who ferkin knows. Pleased I'm not a coach.

Trouble with no reserve grade Chen gets no game time to get  match fit.....so he comes in cold.

Bad move hes lazy and will only disrupt the squad an its not like we were desperate another attacking mid . Id much rather us try get Edgar Davids here for a few games to get the midfeild possession and transition going.

+1

also i'd rather have more options than less, though in saying that combinations developing will be important. Looking forward to seeing what he's got in a Nix shirt though

 The Dom Post article here
mentioned a gall bladder infection, which Diego said was just a scare when he came home early from China. Hopefully for him it is.
He's not back to full speed yet by any means though. Perhaps Diego had been given the opportunity to prove he's fully fit and it hasn't proved so.
Now it looks as if they"ve signed Caceres as cover either to give Diego time to get up to speed or because they know he needs time out.

That pretty much is it. We have a black whole in central midfield.
Don't think they are well coached, the team plays way to conservative and are flat when hey hit the pitch, and nothing changes after half time. Durante's a leader?
Ricki might be reading a book on 'Meditational Coaching'.
Though he might get the most attacking bench in the league award.
7 players back who act like half ways electrified, two hugging the touch line and two looking wishful and hoping some one will do something more than just another 50/50 ball.
If this guy Caceres is going to be there for bertos to pass to', f***** fantastic!

The 'huge signing' has to trial?

imo we are missing a Miller/Hernandez-type player. Someone who can run the game from the middle of the park. (no, they don't need to be fattys like Miller and Hernandez at times)
