I would without a second thought. He had a great game but I thought his best touches were all from positions he would get the ball in playing up front anyway. The period between when Hicks went off and Boyd came on was our worst period of the game.

So the Cat scan showed it was an old injury......lets get a Cat scan for Ifill....he probably snapped his achilles years ago LOL
Marquee players / best imports in the A-League this season seem rather injury prone - so, good to see Hernandez will be back for next game now (confirmed by Fox Sports News on Sky TV tonight)
Fox said Marcos Flores is gone for the whole season now.
Heskey, Gallas, Smeltz all have hardly played; Del Piero and Ono also very injury-prone...
Losing Ifill is balanced by other clubs losing their best imports...
Big Pete 65, Christchurch
Perhaps for a Marquee we should go to someone like Barca and ask to borrow one of their 20 year olds thats about 6th in line for a starting position? Instead of trying to get someone looking for one last pay day?
The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
not a bad idea LG, but would a 20 yr old hopeful want to come out on loan as a marquee player to wellington?
Queenslander 3x a year.
Yes they do but it's subjective. Although I doubt they'd approve a young player 6th in line at his club without any international caps.

it's simply enough to do but do you reckon the welnix crowd have thought of it? or are they so stuck on the "no marquee" policy that their calculators are fracked.
Queenslander 3x a year.
I wouldn't rush him back..to me it changes w and balance of the game as is style is to hold things up rather than quickly move the ball on. Why change winningest team!

Sure, and I see where you're coming from on this, but we have a very thin playing squad at the moment.
Once Fenton hobbled off, I started thing "jeez, Ernie will have to put Hicks back on again now".
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
I think it's a good call. Better than hunting for another play maker overseas which we have had huge trouble with in the past.
I think Carlos can only get better although might be getting a bit old by the time his 1 year option come around.

I used to see him quite a lot in his old Melbourne Victory days and I would (perhaps unfairly) describe him as a slower, more cuddly Tim Brown. There was the exceptional long-distance shooting, and an occasional flash of brilliance with well-placed unpredictable passes that required team players bright enough to know what he was doing. However, his genius is at conserving energy.... he can easily slow down to a halt and amble back and forth for quite a while in a game.
I think it is too early to tell if keeping him on for another year is great or not. My guess though is that he still gets on well with Ernie and that will be in our favour. As Ernie builds a new squad with some faster players, Carlos' speed off the ball will come under scrutiny. In our favour is that he needs to get playing more so that he goes to the WC. He will also try to stay uninjured ahead of the WC.

I think there will be two main factors that will determine if Hernandez's re-signing works out:
- His head space - he seems naturally lazy - he needs to commit to the effort required off the pitch to get and keep himself in good physical condition and the effort required on the pitch to do his share of the work and get himself in to threatening attacking positions.Having his family with him will be conducive to a positive head space. Hopefully his WC ambitions will motivate him to train and up his workrate.
- The players around him - flair players are largely wasted if the players around them aren't capable of making the quality runs and getting on the same wavelength - Iffy absolutely could, Kenny can and I think Stein and Boyd will also be able to read Hernandez given a bit more playing time together. Brockie can't - his running off the ball has been abysmal so far this season.
I think there is plenty of upside in the front third of the park if Hernandez and Cunningham, with families now in town, can get more settled and focused, Stein keeps up his current great form and Boyd continues to grow in confidence. Who knows what the 2 recent recruits will also add.
I'm happy, although I thought he had a 2 year contract anyway.
I'm happy too. If we get into some big playoff games, he's a proven match winner against anyone in this league. If only Brockie could get on the same wave length with his defence splitting passes.
this seems odd to me, why would you offer a new contract to a guy who really hasn't done a lot thus far.....I mean it's the timing that's odd, if he'd been setting the world alight then sure but there's been hardly anything flash from him thus far - I'd have preferred the club to hold off until closer to the end of his contract before offering in effect two more years.
Queenslander 3x a year.
Like Totori it was a clause triggered by appearences.
Prof - it's only a one year extention (to the end of 2014/15 season)
Agree with Prof and Mainland. This signing could have waited another month to see if his statements in the press about improving now his family are here come true. If he blows up, it looks smart. If he tanks, we are on the hook for another year.
The only reason to move on it is that he may have had another offer come in and he has gone to the club and declared it.
Edit: Just saw 2Bs post. That makes sense. Did Ricki really only think he would make so little appearances. He has only had 11 I think. Its the 2nd contract he has done that on too.
Grumpy old bastard alert
I remember it was originally announced as a 2 year contract. Due to the small number of appearances needed to trigger the extension they probably figured it was going to happen anyway, but the clause was there to protect the club in case of serious injury problems, or major fitness issues I'd say.
