We might actually have a midfield next season now...

Great signing. Deadball and longshot specialist, it's a shame he can't join us any earlier.
Welcome King Carlos.

Great signing. Exactly the type of player we have needed for a while. Starting to look forward to next season now (are we still going on this one??)

Permalink Permalink

Hopefully the first of many a signing. Now we need players that can work with him. Lia and Smith no. Sanchez maybe.

Is this the best Phoenix signing ever?

Better than Ifill?

Certainly more of a known quantity.

Great signing.

And there's only two KFC in Wellington City, surely we can keep him away from those?

So either Smith or Sanchez out the door.

Interesting. My first thought was "See ya Dani Sanchez"

Is Carlos an Aussie resident?

If not, I can't see the justification for Sanchez using up a foreign spot (especially if it's true that we have to keep Totori for another year).

Either?

Both I would have thought. Smith just has to go - not good enough. Sanchez just a poor man's Hernandez so gone to?

Permalink Permalink

Alex Smith and (as much as I love him) Dani Sanchez both gotta go, Totori too if possible. Hernandez will no doubt fill the No. 10 role leaving Dani on the bench or on his less favoured wing. Smithy hasn't had enough game time to keep his spot and Totori is Totori.

Isn't Totori on a 1-year deal? Sure he'll get the boot?

I get the feeling that Smith will be let go (I don't agree with it cause he is a good player, but I understand that we should use our import slots on a certain kind of players).

I guess Sanchez becomes a bit redundant now with Carlos - unless Ricky wants to play him on the wing again - in which case I really hope Ricky becomes redundant himself!

Hoping Smith gets dropped. Never disliked a Nix player so much. Anyways, great signing! Been calling for this to happen since he said he wanted to come back to the a league.

Totori's 1 year extension has been activated (the suspicion is that it was a player option)

Great signing....now we need Ed Baronowski to work on his conditioning

Those bad Welnix guys trying to do everything on the cheap not going out and signing the players to play the style of football they want....blah, blah blah!  Hernandez, Cernak, Gamiero  (this is satire by the way)

All we need is a coach who can implement this style of football because I have no faith that Ricki can.

you realise that Rciki (the coach) is probably the one doing the signing? I doubt the welnix team are involved except in stumping up with the cash and approving the request to target the player

Both Ricki and Welnix get kudos for the signing. Considering we are quick to swing the bat when they fuck it all up, they also get props when they deserve it.

I wonder if the Indian team will take it as a slight and drop him. They tend to take a lot of things in their culture personally (honour, respect and all that jazz)

There's no honour or respect in Football, a fair bit of Jazz though.

That cannot be true - why would you ever give a player an option to extend his contract?  There is zero upside for the club

This is great to hear though - has the potential to be a quality signing.  He's not an amazing athlete but he's definitely got the goods and he's good enough to build a team around.  We've actually got a bit of mobility in our forward line, we've just never had anyone to centre it around.  Just need to get the young guys in and around him to do his running for him.  As others have said, I'm cautiously optimistic.

May all depend how hungry he is...(hope I'm first in with this line)

Would this signing mean we aren't going to sign Cernak for next season?

To be fair, if you've got Hernandez to start 27 games in an AM role, why do you want Cernak? Focus on getting another midfielder that puts himself about and is a ball winner and can distribute to the AM, like Tim Brown.... oh wait.
