Aye, but I think I am likely right. Wellnix either didn't get around to helping him and when they did realized it was not as straightforward as they thought or hired someone crap

Let him walk hasnt exactly sparked the season we all wanted and expected. Plenty of chances created without him or not through recently.

Wtf?

Even a half-fit, mental Carlos is the most influential player we've got.

Plus some of you are making all kinds of assumptions about whether there's even a major problem here.

If we want to speculate, which is all we are doing, Carlos may be unhappy to be at a non-performing club and is looking for an excuse to break his contract.

Who know's, but as Ernie says, most likely "As usual, these things get blown out of proportion."

I'd be happy for him to be staying here, but surprisingly, like others, I'd not be too bothered if we lost him.  Stein looks a pretty good option there, Carlos has himself been under-performing and it'd not be that big a deal if he moved on.   And having the funds and import slot available for a good striker sounds reasonably appealing.

So true.
IMO the club needs to do all it reasonably can to keep Carlos (and Ifill) for this season at the very least.

Yeh, in reality, we need him for the depth at mid.  And ideally he gets his family and his game together.

Hopefully just a storm in a tea-cup.

His family should be here since month, are they not planning to live here? He has two year contract, right? No wonder he is no happy man, no wins, no family. He is unlikly to going to the WC with this performance. Pretty shitty situation, hopefully this get sorted and we get happy goal scoaring master midfielder back.

He hasn't really been that great, his shooting especially has been terrible.  It's been fits and starts so far like the rest of the team really.

I would take him over any of our other imports and for that matter any of our squad at the moment.

I like Hernandez too but I still think we're entitled to expect more from him.  That goes for our other imports too of course.  I actually think Riera has been our most consistent, I really do think he's a very good player.

Ifill is still our best player by a country mile.

From the dompost today:

Hernandez has a reputation for being high maintenance and a source in Australia described his "blow up", along with the Phoenix's poor form, as "probably the most predictable thing of the season".

Does explain why he ended up with us!

Maybe historically, but not now.

On goals alone, Ifill has a few 20 minute runs and has two goals, however, Carlos has been playing well too and he also runs out of puff with fifteen to go, so I reckon they're equal

Why not just link the whole piece JD where Merrick gives a fuller account of what's happening.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/9542429/Wellington-Phoenix-still-winless-Hernandez-upset

Merrick said the original plan was for both Hernandez and fellow Costa Rican international Kenny Cunningham to have their families in Wellington by now.

But Merrick also absolved Phoenix management of any blame.

"We certainly aimed towards early December and then Carlos' son's passport had expired," Merrick said yesterday upon returning to Wellington from Thursday's 1-0 loss to Central Coast in Sydney.

"And then they [the Hernandez family] didn't send all the correct stuff off to get their visa.

"Then they couldn't fly through the USA because there's a whole range of problems. It wasn't a financial problem then so I don't know actually what the problem is.

"I'm not sure, I just know Shaun Gill [operations manager] was working very hard. One family [the Cunninghams] are sorted and I don't know about the other one, what the holdup is."

Exactly. Phoenix dont seem to have done anything wrong and hes pissed off about something (theres quite clearly an issue right). So doesn't that indicate he's high maintenance?

Sounds to me like the family haven't sent all the correct stuff to Immigration. I know from experience that the process takes a long time (if going for residence it's longer) and if you don't give them everything they need, it is delayed further.

can't think of a game Carlos has won us yet.

Other players- Ifill, Smeltz, Daniel certainly have. Also I think it's disappointing we haven't seen more of Leo Bertos this season.

Perhaps because we haven't won a game yet.

perhaps because he hasn't won us a game- created or scored crucial goals, dominated and destroyed a defence...Ifill almost has this season off the bench, but I don't think Carlos has. He's been good in patches.

No more or less so than you (although admittedly you are pretty high maintenance).

OK, whatever, I'm sure the worst possible interpretation of these events is the right one.

That's harsh.

It's Terry's fault.

Actually any goal from him today will be enough..

Don't think Carlos has been playing at his potential - but still a huge blow for us with him out 6 weeks. Don't even have a young player to step in there - perhaps Stein will have to play deeper?
