According to the article about next season's draw the China trip is taking shape, with three matches against Chinese Super League sides between June 6-16.

Excellent.

Should be interesting, Changchun's form against Adelaide in the AFC Champions League suggests the Chinese League is a similar standard to the A-League.

Hey man! ok!... gotta save my pennies and find some cheap flights...

Tony P- can you confirm locations, times and dates? I'll have to do a weekend mission...

Hey SC03! keen as a bean...I'm going to be a poor man...my friend just asked  me if I was coming to his wedding in Harbin in July...

Do you know any of the chants?

Sorry Martinb I don't, these will be my first three Phoenix fixtures. I'm sure we'll be able to borrow some from the others on here or make up some new ones.

I might be keen, but June 6-16 without any other details isn't enough to go on.

Not sure how long it takes to get a Chinese visa either...

The whole thing seems a bit extravagant, coming from NZ, but it would be a bit different to seeing Australian stadiums, and less likely to be repeated ...

OK, it's more of a 'wish I could', but I'll say there's a 30% chance I'll go.

Cant confirm as yet hoping to know more in a week. It will be 3 games and the dates are June 6-16.  One potential game will be close to HK.

This was in the Sydney Morning Herald this morning, must be pretty close to getting an official announcement from the club now

"In A-League news, Perth Glory are edging closer to signing veteran keeper Frank Juric, who wants to return to Australia after a decade in Germany. Juric, 34, has spent most of his time abroad as a second-string keeper, and finishes his deal with Hannover 96 this month.

Perth start pre-season training this week and will compete in a four-team tournament in China next month along with Wellington Phoenix"

This could be fun.  Be warned, China visas are harder to get with the Olympics around the corner.  You can still get them in HK, but better to get them in NZ before you leave.

NZ$1600 for Wellington - Hong Kong on Air NZ around this time ... hmm, that's a bit more expensive than an away game in Oz ...
Over $2000 for Wgn - Shanghai

even though it might just be a one off and under different circumstances, the Perth match could be a good indicator of where we stand compared to last season

You're joking, right? They aren't doing this for us. It's for them as a team.

I can see your point but it doesn't stop me being unhappy with it!!! I want to see the Nix as often as possible. I'd follow them to China if I could afford it!

if Changchun Yatai vs. Adelaide United on
www. myp2p.eu
is being covered online from china it is likley that you would find a sopcast or tvants coverage of the phoenix games.

Not necessarily. Changchun vs Adelaide is Champions League so of course is televised, if this is friendly games or some tournament being arranged locally there may not be any TV coverage at all. I don't remember there being TV coverage when LA Galaxy game to Shanghai.

By the way if you'd rather pay a bit for what I guess would be better quality the AFC has an online channel, you don't need sopcast or tvants.

The club will surely film it, but I guess they wouldn't be likely to release that ... I'd offer my services as cameraman ...

So is there any more info on this trip yet?

I've heard rumblings that the games may be in or near HK. My old man lives in Shenzhen so he may be able to check it out if this is true.

Today's news item about Vince Lia potentially filling the right back spot mentions it, as have a few other articles recently, but still no details....

The club have just informed the radio networks... so I guess the source is Tony P.

All non-essential trips to China have been abandoned.

Thats a shame, I was hoping to finally get to see the team in action.  Still, China does have bigger things on her mind now than the Phoenix...

I'm not so convinced... the Chinese Govt has 'postponed' all non-essential foreign travel into China. Since when is football non-essential?

Thats a real bummer!!!!

It was shaping up as a good preseason build up for the Phoenix....plus the Chinese were paying for it. Fairly difficult to find replacement games at such short notice. The thing about a tour like that is it helps with all that team bonding stuff plus there would have been three games to try out combinations etc.

Playing the Oly-whites in Porirua is Ok but it is hardly a substitute. China would have tested the squad in terms of the travel, difficult/different opposition. This is a major blow to the season buildup.
