I agree!!!

Its Easy to judge the man

When they win its all about the players and how great THEY are

When they lose its all on the coach

Was in Sunday News. Chances are  the interview never happened...
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

[QUOTE=el grapadura But the reality is that whoever the new coach is, he still gets stuck with the same group of players and doesn't get much time to instill his/her coaching philosophy. So the chances are, even if we sacked Ricky and brought in someone like Stu Jacobs for example, the team's fortunes may improve slightly, but the chances are things would probably remain more of the same rather then go exceptionally well.
[/QUOTE]
I don't buy that in this situation, we have good players but Ricki doesn't seem to be addressing problems that crop up week after week, like our arsing around with the ball at the back and that no one seems to care at throw-ins. He also seems to have not told his central midfielders to do anything different, we NEED one of our central midfielders to start trying to control the middle of the park; We can harp on about our creative wide players all we like but they're useless unless someone actually plays them into the game by giving them the ball.

I seriously wonder if Ricki is actually telling players the same soft BS that he spouts out to the media.

With regards to a new coach, no one in NZ has what it takes and simply appointing someone for being a kiwi runs us into the 'are we here to develop NZ football?' issue. There are plenty of quality coaches in the State leagues, or so I've heard.

We have a few good players but also a few who are far from that. We also have big problems up front and in the midfield where lack of quality personnel is becoming painfully obvious. New coach will inherit these same problems if brough in now, and won't be able to redress tham this season. So a change would be more likely than not a cosmetic one, and the question, as far as I'm concerned, is how bad the Nix management can let the situation get before they decide to act.
I don't think we're too far away from it, tbh.

Rickys had his go, might be time for him to step aside, not sure why everyones asking whos can possibly replace him, it doesnt have to be a kiwi, doesnt even have to be anyone we've ever heard of. Get the word out people will apply, interview process etc etc

Sacking and replacing him will cost money and is there enough in the kitty to do that.

If we start getting crowds of 4k like the Glory crowd the money in the kitty will be disappearing fairly quickly.

Worse worry is the Aussie nix haters will blame Wellington for the poor Glory crowd, we are now at least as sh*t as the knights.  My god how depressing.

I think the central midfield situation is a tactical (and selection) one, actually give someone like Tim Brown the mandate to put his foot on the ball and pass it along the ground.

No, Brown's no better than any of the other options we have in central midfield.

I'd like to see him play a whole game in place of someone like Johnson anyway, he MUST be better than him at least.

Go back to point made by El Grapadura the player who looks like he can put his foot on the ball and has a range of passes is McKain (and sure he hit a couple of wayward passes today). With Dodd able to slot in central defence the loss of Mckain there is well covered. Think McKain would add a bit more bite into that central midfield role as well.

Just looking at this thread here are some coaches names who come to mind all experienced.

Eddie Krncevic,  Branko Cullina,  Ian Crook, Nick Theo (rest I cant spell), Frank Arok (good care taker coach old but very smart), Zoran Matic (again an older coach but as a caretaker many claim the best in Australian club football ever)

Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei

Please.  Branko was a shambles at Sydney, Theo had a record at Newcastle so bad he made the Knights look good.  Arok and Matic are from a different era, and 'Smooth' Eddie ?  Please.

Don't even start me on Crook, big nosed ex-Budgie, not at my f**king club.

Phil Stubbins, or Stu Jacobs.

he would be out of the box then and unable to give away penalties..
i dont know if he is the answer however. moving him in could be calamitous.i feel he is a little to relaxed on the ball sometimes and could become easy prey.

i dont think sacking ricki is the answer either. im struggling to think of a replacement, maybe Fallon. he could add some bite to the players..

Hey if we made the grand final, least we'd win after Fallon stalks the opposition during the week and beats them into not turning up for the game

Allegedly

If Fallon was appointed coach of the Nix I really would boycott the club.

He is very relaxed on the ball, but he has a good touch and a bit of composure. Sure he'd lose the ball a few times and give some away, but that's football. Still think that out of all the options we have, he'd fill that central midfield position the best.

yeah it is.it was a sad attempt to inject some humour into it all. i feel for ricki, as none of the guys have really jumped out and said play me. when you look at the plethora of midfielders we have, they all are as bad as each other these first few games.a much of a muchnes. i do hope someone takes the bull by the horns and really leads the team from the middle of the park.for rickis sake

If you're thinking Brown, you should ban yourself.

And Midfielder, great call on Eddie Krncevic. The team needs more Croatian anyway...

Mid-way through a season, no coach wants to take a team on. Its a nightmare situation for anyone walking in. Ricki needs a rev up and perhaps a new assistant? Or LISTENING to an assistant.

HOWEVER. Look at what the breakers did. They got BALDWIN! They got a yank in, they got someone from the country that dominates the sport and sent them across. Surely we could lure some old french master to come teach us? We need an external influence, but at the end of the season. Also I want to challenge the captains leadership. If things go pear shape on the field its his responsibility to pull players into line and call them up on the tactics they're employing. I.E. resorting to long balls should get yourself a bollocking from him!!!

Ricki here is a life line grab it

           Moss

Siggy   Dodd Durante Lochead

Bertos Mckain Brown Daniel

        Costa Smeltz

And in anticipation of the standard response to Costa well I have not seen anything on offer from Kwasnik, Hearfield or Gao and Coveny and Smeltz are not a great partnership.

I didn't have the moving pictures last year. Was it possible that he was actually worse than Mulligan or Muscat?

Muscat had an average game against the Roar and a shocker against Melbourne. Mulligan hasn't had a good game yet, and today was poor.

I can't say I've seen him play much, but you are being genuine in rating him?
