Hermit must go. His imports, tactics and looks are horrifying. I just spewed up thinking about hermits face. Jeremy christie for the all whites? Nothing short of dispicable. Worst player i have ever played against or seen. Simon elliot not playing, hermits lucky i dont bottle hiim. Every other team is quicker than us and actually pass and move together as a team. Tim Brown the fittest player in the league, box to box player and who also scores must be and shud be captain / coach. Durrante overrated. Hermits tactics are playing like the under 12 womens team..we have no big strikers so why long ball into the strikers?? Hermits wrecking players careers, leo is the man but hes playing him totally wrong. Why not pick Aaron Clapham?? Carves up every national league game but doesnt get a look in. Paston great shot saver for a girl but useless on crosses, get phil imray in there, hes the best keeper in nz. Wiremu patrick the most natural talented player in nz would eat vance lia for his breakfast. I just threw up thinking aout the felix. I dread to think how bad we will be when lochface comes back. Hermits tactics are kick long then kick it out. Disgusted. Im a football hooligan and am looking for a fight with any hermit fan. Bring it on mutha f*ckas

It's interesting that footpaul's use aside- there is an increasing reference to this forum.

That suggests to me that the YF brand is actually becoming quite powerful (even 'tho it is a forum for us to post a lot of stoopid, lols and face palms).

It's fair enough, in my view, to quote fan sites. Where else should one go to get a good picture of what the team's biggest fans think? But of course, as with any internet forums or social networking sites, caution should be applied. Usually reading a thread and putting comments in context is all that is required. But even then I think each of us had times when we've misread a post or had our posts misunderstood, particularly when we're taking the piss!

I s'pose so - if you want warriors goss then get the Mad Butcher's opinion.

Seems a bit lazy and open to some twisting of quotes/context to suit the point.

Might be better to actually approach News or Smiff or ML - the TV faces of the YF (rather than e.g. Tunnel Vision!).

I guess the newspapers aren't giving their journalists time to actually go to a game, let alone approach the YF before or after.  Turning to an online forum is a coping mechanism.

I think a bit from both (the forum and YF "spokesmen") is the way. Good to get a broad spectrum of opinion, rather than relying on the same old voices - such as the Mad Butcher for league, or Bob McCroskrie for "morality" issues.

I agree with what you say about twisting quotes - it is important to select comments which reflect the overall conversation/opinion. I recall one particular story (not from the Herald!) which took two comments critical of Terry avoiding the vast majority supporting him and critical of the media outlet in question.

Back to the topic at hand, I think Michael Brown's story has a bit of a point (putting aside the reference to this thread) in that Ricki has gone from an international football hero and media darling, to someone who in many people's eyes has no idea what he's doing. None of us expected the team to be where it is now four months ago. Let's hope it is still not there in four months time.

There are fans like it all over the world.

Happens everywhere. Fan sites are an easy source of juicy guotes and gossip. Easier than actually doing any research.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yep. There are 'Sack _______' threads on every club forum, from Arsenal Mania to Red Cafe.

Three for me, and two for them.

well I bag him when i think it may be deserved so i'll applaud him here too

i thought Ricki did a great job this week
Ifill to striker, greenacre to bench, dealt with the ineffective lone striker problem.  Sorry I love greeny, but it aint been working.
Musa in allowing Manny to stay at his best possy
Daniel given an opportunity - and he looked fresh and fired up
he and bertos both subbed early tho' when they ceased to make impact
good aggressive sub bench - Ward, Marco, Greeny
Good aggressive final substitution Musa for (Marco?)

absolutely no complaints, in fact

thank god, our management and NZFA for the reserves team.  I don't know if Ricki could have played Musa and Rojas without having the confidence of their performances from the challenge series games.  Show's what we've been missing.  Shame it probably cost us Kosta.

To be fair, it is actual research. There's nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Sometimes the opinions held by fans are relevant to a story and where is a better place to find the opinions of fans than a forum? Sure there is a lot of stupid comments and jokes on here but, like I said above, if the reporter is responcible and makes sure the comment is in context it is fine in my books.

I think some people have absolutely no idea of the time constraints and how under-staffed many newsrooms are. Then you have the various coms people giving you the run around (some are good though!). Call it lazy if you like, I call it smart.

Ok, that's enough angst from me! Might I add, all things considered, it is still the best job in the world!

This. Especially the bit about the reserve team. It is so important those not in the squad get regular game time so when they are needed they are ready. Can't criticise Ricki's job last night either.

Must admit I don't like the idea of reporters quoting from these forums. Basically because you have to rely on the reporter giving a balanced representation of whats being said. This will never happen. These forums contain a wide selection of opinions and I am afraid that reporters will/can select whatever point of view they want and claim that this is backed up by the supporters.

Basically people use these forums for a multitude of reasons....to let off steam, to take the piss, to rant, to offer well thought out opinions, to show their passion, to wind people up. It seems a little sleezy that the main stream media are taking this into their arena. To me posting is like talking to your mates...the last thing you want is to be quoted in the paper....even if it is anonomous.

Perhaps we could just nominate whooooooooo as our media spokes person!!!!!!

I think quoting this thread as being 51 pages was a perfect example of that. He clearly said it to back up his article by saying 52 pages = a sh*tload of fans think he should go,when really that's not the way the thread has gone.

It's been going on for nearly three months and opinion is divided on Herbert's abilities as a coach and even who should take over if he gets the chop".

He tries to imply there's been 3 months of angst starting after the world cup. This thread started in sept 09 after the bad run at the start of last season.

Its been going on since Ricki started making bizarre decisions involving strategy and tactics.

Thankfully we are looking a bit better inthe last couple of games. Long may it continue.

I never mentioned height. My point was more general, in that I doubt Greenacre would have scored at least 1 of the 2 goals Ifill scored, and you can add Ifill's goal on Saturday to that list now too.

edit - so actually, I guess I am saying Ricki has done something RIGHT in ditching Greenacre

The only way fans stop criticising the manager is if the owner becomes the bad guy.  Chris Hughton doesn't cop much flak, because Toon fans will always blame Ashley for what's basically wrong with the club.

Probably an impossible position for RH - he's clearly identified as Terry's creature.
