Apparently he had a good Asian cup for Australia. To be fair until the last couple of games our problem wasn't creating chances for the strikers it was putting them away. Even in the 7-1 pounding we got from Sydney we had more shots. So maybe a striker isn't that bad.

scored all 6 for Aussie at U20 qualifying.

No problems with Gamiero coming on board.....

Shame he is a short arse...5ft 9'' so we shouldn't expect to see aerial balls played into him.......yeah right!

Still if he is on the books at Fulham and has had game time with Eindhoven(8 times) then he must have some talent....certainly enough to have an impact in the A-League

But his recruitment sort of feels like rowing someone out to the Titanic post iceberg

We literally need someone who can do it all by themselves - i.e. take the ball, beat defenders, and finish.  Hopefully he can...

Yeah I have no issue with Gameiro signing.

Lets be rehash the general feeling - we are playing like shit, and the off field gives the appearance as being as bad as the on field. He has not committed funds to tis player for next year (and if he was signed next year and turned out to be a dud like Totori, Chen, George etc Ricki would get caned) and gets 3 months to see if this kid can play.

What else can he do? The squad ain't playing, he is bringing in players. If the kid fails, what has he lost? The last 6 rounds of a shit season? This is exactly what the club should be doing. At the very least, Cernak and Hogg whom are on similar deals, are starting and not looking out of place.

General fan negativity for the sake of being continuously negative.

Doesn't Musa play for fulham? Couldnt we get him back on loan as well?

Auckland will rise once more

He is a teammate of Musa, maybe that is where the connection came from...

Musa is out on loan and didn't even get near the reserves. Still no a far reach to assume.

Musa... Didn't get a fair shake and from what I have seen, probably wont go much higher (and would lilke to be proven wrong)

You will find them both in the same team here  Fulham U21's, not sure how often they played together though.

not negative for the sake of being negative. just dont think we need a striker. we need a midfield general not some 20 year old who hasnt scored a goal since the 2011 under 20 world cup

I highly doubt that we would be able to find a 'midfield general' in the middle of the season, even if we were actively looking for one.

Just to clarify this, he's been on loan to FC Eindhoven in the Dutch second division, not the former European champions PSV Eindhoven who play in the Dutch top division.
He also hasn't scored a senior goal in his career yet.

Knowing Ricki, we'll probably never even see this kid on the park.

It's not like we passed up on a midfielder to sign a striker. This guy became available, we signed him. We did need an out and out striker also. he does benefit the team, so why all the complaining? This is a positive move, with no real downside.

Would settle for a midfield "Oberleutnant" or even a Regimental Sergeant Major at the moment.

before fc eindhoven (8 games, no goals) he played in the blue square premier for the mighty hayes and yeading fc (5 games no goals).

just because you're one of 500 players on a premier league teams books, doesn't make you a premier league player.

great signing ricki, you sure are dancing with the big boys

More Boyd/Totori/Smith/Sanchez that should be worried. He's not coming here to be a bench warmer or why bring him?

i'm really sorry jeff, but did you read the spin that ricki put on this signing in the paper re: being associated with premier league clubs?

my opinion is that this appears to be a signing to give the player experience, when we need a player of real quality.  we probably got him for free (i.e. fulham paying his wages)

but hey, i've never seen the guy play (how could i have if he's played only 13 games in such crap teams) he might be a superstar

Is there an option to sign the kid for next season, if the loan goes well? Or is he just a band aid.

Ignore the commentary in the paper and look at it with your own eyes. Its 6 rounds left of a shit season. Is it really worth getting bent out of shape about? So the kid fails. What have we lost? If he does well, then what have we lost?
Perspective is needed about this signing (and I am not directing this at you) in large doses.

Think its called frustration by many of us Jeff.

Frustration with a season that started with some promise has turned to shit, frustration at what appears to be a lack of marketing, frustation with a continual recruitment of players who would get little game time elswhere in the A league, frustation that our team has played with complete lack of passion at times this season, frustration that the ROF which once was a place other teams feared coming to has turned into powder puff stadium.

Good point JV
The Nix alert scouts that they want to sign some talent. Scouts reply what/where/who? Nix reply...we are a New Zealand team playing in the A-League. We are at the arse end of the comp shipping large number of goals and are currently not in good shape...and there is only 6 games left in the season.
Scouts.....oh, OK then...ummmm! let me see who I have available
People need to grasp reality....we are not a desirable team to come to at the moment. Gameiro is probably the best we can do. No point in getting angsty over this.

Let's also add that (a) Wellington doesn't have the "lifestyle" cachet of virtually every other A-League town (i.e. the wind and the rain); (b) we are owned by people who want to make a profit. Therefore, we are always going to be behind the rest of the league recruitment-wise, and even if we were bought by an insane billionaire who wants to lose as much money as possible as a tax dodge, that would only solve part of the problem.

So; whining about how we can't get European superstars to play for us is the kind of thing that will go on forever. We will never be a lifestyle choice, and it's unlikely that we'll ever be a "big money" choice. I for one have decided to assume that the Nix will always have to "make do" with the players others throw away. That used to be a positive for us, remember? Back in the days when we used to say "Ricki has a way of making rejects into stars".

I am equally frustrated Ballane and I guess while I can respect the frustration of all the fans and forum goers, there are times when even I reel myself in and go 'you are acting like a bit of a knob Mike'. I called the 5-0 result before kick off. I looked at the line up and honestly could not believe what I was reading - a midfield with more holes than Swiss cheese and about as much protection for the back line as an LA cop for a black man. I do not profess to have anywhere near the quals of Ricki and his crew but I know enough about football to see a hiding coming. Then to watch it all play out on TV and I ask myself 'Am I really watching this unfold as it does or are the coaching team in lala land'

I'm not on the Sack Ricki wagon but I think the club needs to (unfortunately) give Greenie the boot and get in 2 new quality assistants. They are slowly getting the off field stuff sorted bringing in Ed and creating some of the departments that are missing (Rob Morrison said even he did not realise how bad the club was off field). In terms of on field, well it needs an overhaul. This kid is most likely not the answer but there is nothing left in at least rolling the dice on a low risk wager.
