good interview, I love how Rudan explains everything so that noone can argue or just plain make shark up.

When did we get knocked back by Gleeson and Marinovich? I must have missed that!

As recently as Dura's trip to the States where he caught up with Jake. I heard he was offered a two year contract on pretty good money. Just bad timing at the moment as he is still hoping to break through in the MLS even if it means leaving Portland.

After watching the Kurto presser, it felt like Rudan was gonna cut some guys. Parkhouse was one of the obvious ones

Geez, Rudan really is pulling no punches. While I'm optimistic for this season, we still have a lot of recruitment to be doing.

It's all well and good to cut squaddies like Parkhouse, but we still have to sign someone better

Based on pre-season and the last Handy Prem season Callan Elliot and J-S Sinclair are both better, or at least as good, cheaper, and kiwis..

Parkhouse was pants... every time he played I felt bad for McGarry, Rogerson and Singh as to how they could be seen as inferior players.

Seemed a nice guy, but was never good enough. Will probably end up at the Mariners.

A logical departure. Another Australian we signed who was nearly good enough, a la Blake Powell and Scott Galloway.

Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

Parkhouse was just not good enough. Well done to Rudan for setting high standards. We have had too many substandard players in recent years.

But can they "Coach" though?

Rudan, from the Kurto press conf

Signings

"More signings to come - we've already agreed with a few others"

Squaddies

"I want.. an environment where all the players are challenged...There's nothing worse than watching the two keepers not putting pressure on Filip...if that is the case it's quite easy for me. There's an exit door and you can walk out... I want guys who want to play every week in the first eleven"

'Squaddies' aren't a part of Rudan's thinking.

Current players

"Some players impressed me.. better than I originally thought...Some players that didn't get a minute on the park last year - get an opportunity. But it happens in the reverse as well."

"You've got players who surprised me...that I didn't know much about...that are doing a good job.... They're OK... they might not be next month, next week."

Lowry, Fenton impressing? Parkhouse apparently not.

Bentleigh Greens game

No rush for signings for this game.

"Some players aren't up to the level to play up to 90 minutes... There'll be surprises there"

Trialists

"We're still getting new players in who aren't at the level we expect them to be"

Yep.

I think a lot of people speak excellent English in the Netherlands and he's been there long enough to have learned enough to get by - so I like to think he'll be OK in that department.

Kurto was born in what, 1990, 1991?  This means all his primary and high school in Poland was done after the fall of the old regime (1990) which means English and German (or English and French) as compulsory two foreign languages from primary school on.  I expect him to communicate in reasonable English well.

And it is not even a new thing: right up till the fall of the Soviet block it was still required to take two foreign languages at high school but one of them had to be Russian (and the other either English, German or French).   However, the main problem with fluency in those languages until 1990 was that young people simply had no opportunity to live and work abroad which would promote fluency in the languages they learned.  In fact this did not improve until a bit later, probably late nineties (when the permanent work permits were first offered by Germany and then The Netherlands and other EU countries). It changed completely after Poland joined the EU in 2003 and Poles who spoke foreign languages poorly simply struggled getting good jobs.

Visited Poland last year and in the north eastern part where we were in there was very little English spoken by anyone.Even many of the younger children struggled with it.As pointed out having played outside Poland doubt he will struggle to much.

Happy to have it moved to the "A-League Geography Club" thread, but just to say that northeast Poland (the Masurian Lakes) is not exactly a thriving hub of economy, apart from the tourism sector. You would find plenty of young English speakers in large cities though. It is a bit like saying that you would not find many Polish speakers in Te Kuiti; while if you went to Chicago you will be tripping over them.

And young children would have not picked up much fluency yet  - that comes with exposure by going abroad.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

He's always been in this group for mine, but perhaps Rudan sees promise. Doesn't seem to be as many promising young kiwi CB's around these days.

Or atleast being given every opportunity to show something.

I like the fact that it appears under Rudan that if you don't perform, your out and someone else gets a chance... too often over the last few years has mediocre being accepted, with no chance of being dropped.

To be fair Ernie didn't get him as a starter, and picked him probably to deputise behind two good wing forwards. Maybe I've just repressed several years of Phoenix history

Rudan also really values winning the A league- he knows the histories of the clubs and characters we are playing against and he's been there himself. It is triumph at home for him.

Liked that interview and looking forward to the season

Yeah. It was a typical Ernie "shark the season starts in two weeks and I don't have enough defenders, look here's a NSWPL left winger that I can turn into a left back" signing.

Agreed.

Even if we do not win the league, looks like with Rudan at least we'll be trying to.

I like Rudan's hard-nosed approach so far. First Andy Martin gone, now Parkhouse ....

Funny, this was one of the handful of things Rudez said that I was disappointed in. I get the old traditionalist "just keep it out of the goal" mentality; but having picked up a Keeper who can play with his feet this season for my team, being able to utilise another player on the pitch has benefited us immensely. Having another option, really allows you to exploit the space and play better football - so it seems strange The Nix are avoiding that.

I don't think at all that we are going to AVOID playing like that, I just think that Rudan has gone for a keeper whose primary strength is using his hands.

Good interview. Rudan comes across as a winner that won't suffer fools easily. Good on him....and the club too. Steven Taylor could be a very good person to have around off the field with his influence on up and coming players as much as on it.

His voice reminds me of Oz from Auf Wiedersehen Pet

Like many he's easier to understand when he sings.

Great show AWP.

It's plain to see Taylor is going to bring some steel on pitch, and some fun off it. Will quickly be a Fever favourite.

Shovelling snow at Peterborough though, he's in for a shock when he travels to Oz for games January-February.

So all of our young players that have left the club have picked up gigs elsewhere or are on trial and expected to sign something.

Rogerson in Germany, McGarry in Holland, Rufer in Switerland and Ridenton to Newcastle... a postive reflection of the club developing young players??

Think three or four of the next generation a good chance as well. Even many of those that didn't move to the first team are top tier Handy prem players.

You could also include Max Mata (currently trialling with Grasshopper club in Switzerland) as an ex Nix player, though left club over a year ago..
