Nelsen might throw him a lifeline. Torontos roster constantly changing

Wasn't serious. Seems like a long, long shot.

Odds for new scapegoat have just opened.

Lia 2/1

If Ernie gets his 2 mids he wants, I can't see him getting near the starting XI. Siggy would be my tip.

Glen Moss could be another option ..or Ian Hogg/Luke Rowe

I am not sure we can blame midfield for Tony L.'s departure. Ernie obviously thought that LB needed more attention, and I would not be surprised if he looked at bringing in someone else than Rowe or Hogg into the position. However, I will hold back my opinion until I see Ernie's recruitment decisions for the midfield.

So he has no problems at right back then? Would assume that Manny will be playing there.

I was never really a Lochead fan but I think he was still better than Hogg and quite a bit better than Rowe, but then he was probably on quite a bit more money. Whether this is a good decision from Merrick all depends on who we can bring in. Best of luck to Tony, hopefully he can get a stint somewhere he doesn't mind living.

Edit Sam Worthington on stuff makes it sound like Rowe has not been signed and will effectively be on trial. That makes sense, he doesn't have many obvious places to go and would have been silly for the coach to sign him based on 2 games when he can afford to take a proper look at him.

Grumpy old bastard alert

While this is a bit pointless, I was looking at the 15 players we have on the books and thought "What would our team look like if we have to play tomorrow". Other than Hernandez and Boxall, it looks like the same old.

                      Moss

Muscat Sigmund Durante Boxall

                      Lia

      Fenton Hernandez Ifill

              Brockie Stein

Lindsay, Boyd, Bertos, Totori

Now Merrick says he wants to bring in some starters. LB is one, and DM is the other just looking at the above. I still don't see the requirement for a pacey striker unless you are looking to do something different with Stein or Brockie. When you throw a keeper in there, it would not surprise me if Merrick goes over the 20 to have a some 'insurance' on positions in the 21-23 squad spots.

I don't think there is room for a pacey striker simply because it is a lower priority given what we already have available. However for Victory when Merrick was in charge, having pacey strikers was the most important part of his team and game plan. I suspect if he does get another striker, 2 out of Iffil, Brockie and Stein will be spending a lot of time not on the field.

Completely agree with this - in fact it wouldnt surprise me if we see heaps of new nix players this year.
Look at how many players Ange used last year - mainly because he wanted to start transitioning out the players he didnt want but were still under contract

Is there a limit on the squad size though or does it not matter as long as you are under the salary cap?

Limit is 23, but doesn't include injury replacements, players called up for International windows etc

Yeah 23 players max. Last year Victory had 33 play for them I think - dont think any were injury replacements

They had a lot of kids from their NYL team play for them because of injuries. If you have a NYL team, you can't get injury replacements except in special circumstances.

I don't believe Manny has ever said he wants to be a right back. Quite the opposite.

Pretty sure Manny is on record telling YOU that he will play right back next season as that's where the team thinks he is more effective. Ernie then came into the Phoenix press conference saying he thinks Manny is a decent midfielder.

I wonder if Ernie will be releasing any others? New broom and time to clean house. Fair call so long as most of the replacements are young, hungry to do well types. Would give us the basis for a team for the next 5 years.

Thank you for proving my point exactly. He said he would play there because that's where the team needed him. He did not say he wanted to be or preferred to be one.

Well from the argument of Manny playing RB next season, he seemed pretty certain that's where he'd be until Ernie came along.

Yeah I knew it was something like that which was why I used the phrase 'words to the effect of' because I was not too sure on what he said. Thanks for clarifying.

So yeah, he's stated a preference to play at right back, but it's not because he enjoys playing RB more than DM.
