2 more Brazilian flags being couriered down from Auckland.

If you have a Brazilian flag, bring it to the game.

Daniel's presentation is at 4.20pm on the field in front of the Fever Zone. They want to make the presentation in front of all the Brazilian flags.

So, either:

( a ) Be at the back bencher ready to leave at 3.45pm

( b ) Be at the last Fran Wilde Walk sign outside the gates at 4.00pm

( c ) be at the front of the Fever Zone at 4.15pm

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Will the presentation be in the tunnel and will Daniel walk off straight after the game?

I doubt it, meet him in the street, he stops and talks to you and even if in a rush he at least shakes your hand.

Ahmad was not inferring Daniel would do that. He knows he wouldn't. He was taking a dig at Tim Brown... bwtcf2012-01-26 15:03:06

I really have to make it clear that, like many of the posts of Yellow Fever, most of of my posts should not be taken entirely seriously, or to heart. Huge respect for what Tim Brown has done for the Phoenix and others over his career.

If the story and rumours are true and he gets paid more than anyone, then it seems cut and dried.
Hard to take a pay cut

I don't think it is cut and dried.

It might turn out to be, but it's far from being an open and shut no brainer.

Sure, no one WANTS a, say, 50% pay cut. But the size of the cut is not the thing that the decision will be made on. Daniel will, naturally, look at his options. If there is a better offer in Singapore, or somewhere else, (and 'better offer' doesn't JUST involve the $, it involves the attractiveness of moving his family there etc. too) then if he and his agent can pull such a deal together, he'll take it.

But it is also possible that such a deal may not be able to be stitched together. In which case, he'll take the best deal being offered... the alternative being taking nothing at all. __IF__ a (say) 50% pay cut at the Phoenix turns out to be the best deal being offered to him, then as hard as it might be to take a big pay cut, he'll take it... the alternative being taking a 100% pay cut.

So the Phoenix will/have offered what they are willing to offer. That may or may not turn out to be the best offer he gets... If he goes he will go with a lot of good will, good friends and good memories of his time here in Wellington.

If he does go I can see a "I'll miss Daniel" banner in my future.

So, could we still expect to see him for AWs consideration? Even if he does leave he wouldve been here long enough by then surely, right? AJ132012-02-14 11:24:57

It's believed the club in Singapore that's looking at him is Balestier Khalsa. If he signs they will have 2 'kiwis' on their books with Paul Cunningham the current club captain.

Looking at the current squad, I for one can't see him making it

Daniel would be useful all white. We have limited depth and will often have European and sometimes US players unavailable, throw in injuries and we would be pretty silly not to keep him in AW frame if possible.

Agreed, when you look at the entire list of players who played some role in the 2010 qualifiers, there are a fair few very average players. Daniel would surely make the cut as a squad player.

It would depend on the timing of his leaving - he's still a few months short of meeting the 5-year residence requirement.

Daniel picked up an ankle injury and is out for 2 weeks. Interestingly though his trial in Singapore never eventuated. Instead he went to a club in Thailand.

Encouragingly though he says his preference is to stay with the Phoenix if at all possible.

Also says in this article:

"It didn't take me long to realise that Thailand wasn't a place I wanted to take my family.

"Had I been younger and single I could probably have given it a go, but first choice is to stay with the Phoenix."

That Daniel has yet to be approached by the club disgusts me. that Ricki hasn't said boo to him over the situation disgusts me even more.

He might not be the quickest around but he has the 'smarts' to read the game. This season when he has been played, he's done very well. Assists have been great, crosses are better than anything any of the other players have yet to offer.

I admit my bias, being one of the three founding members of the official Daniel fan club. But I am not completely blinkered. he's given the ball away, just like others - including our so called best player. But Daniel offers an option for the team that should not be saved for the subs bench. He should be a starter. he should be offered a new contract.

When he first signed he was encouraged to get nationalisation with the idea of playing for the All Whites. Sadly, although he has kept his part, Ricki has not at this stage, even hinted on the subject.

Very disappointed with the club and Ricki in this respect.

I think he should be starting too LG.  When he was starting, stepping in for others while injured, he did the job, he and sanchez link up well and he's leading the club in the assists table.  Im sounding like a broken record but yeah if they haven't spoken to him then it's the pits.

I thought the report was he had been offered a contract but on significantly reduced wages?

In hindsight some things appear to be "clear". Yes it's conspiracy theory but perhaps all this explains how little game time Daniel was recently getting despite actually playing bloody well. I suspect things aren't the best on a personal level between Daniel and some others at the moment.

Not yet Feverish although I am happy to stand corrected on that. I'd like to add that Daniel not only has a good playing relationship with Sanchez but ever since day one, Locky and Daniel down the left in particular have also been great together.

Ahmed, I know what you are hinting at and i have pulled you up on it before. I really think you do NOT wish to go down that road. There is no truth in it!

Not sure entirely what you mean (perhaps you can PM me if you want to be more discreet).

I don't have any explanation or even rumour about an explanation. I'm just saying that at the time we all wondered what the hell was going on regarding the Daniel disfavour, and now looking back it isn't surprising given what now has been confirmed at least partly regarding contract negotiations.

That was the rumour initially, but then this appeared in the media (pasted from the daniel poll thread);

So far this campaign he has made eight starts in 18 matches and Herbert confirmed on Wednesday the club had yet to put an offer in front of the 32-year-old midfielder.

"We haven't made a lot of players offers yet," added Herbert. "Our heads have been firmly concentrating on the finals series.

"Whilst players are probably looking for a bit more certainty and longevity in their careers it will probably be a couple of weeks until we get closer to something new."

...

"Daniel has got his family to consider. He's got his future to consider, whether that's a year or two years in professional football," said Herbert.

"Whilst the Phoenix has been his home for a long period of time it's important that he is happy and he's making the right decisions.

"We've given him three days [quoted on Feb 15/16] now to clear his head and see what he feels himself. Then we can make a call."
