Would he be able to getting a starting position in other teams?
Allegedly

Before getting injured, he was playing rather well (eg holding his starting spot).
All our mid-fielders had bad patches (notably Leo being benched for a refresher), and Diego has hardly had a look in.
i agree chocnut, he looked gutted.
Queenslander 3x a year.
imo Caceres has a higher high but a lower low. Daniel is a bit more consistent these days.

I think it is more this. I think he's a better player than Caceres in some ways- certainly a better passer of the ball. He seemed to work hard early on on criticisms of his game and was defending well, and had been tracking back.
he's not as quick as Caceres, but he reads the game much better, and brings other players into the game well- if they are making runs.
plus he's a fever zone favourite and always plays his heart out.
He looked like class when he came on for that small bit against CC? was it , and I was hoping he'd get some time in the Perth game, but we made it through without him.

Not always. The issue with each of Daniel, Bertos & Caceres is that the the arrows in the above randomly point every which way and you're never quite sure which way.
Makes it so much more fun to watch!
I know, I know, its serious!
He has been such a great club player. Always wears his heart on his sleeve and will follow whatever Ricki says. Unfortunately for him that's nearly always been bench time or being subbed off when it's clear there are others (ah-hem Leo?) that haven't been contributing nearly as much as he has. Especially lately. Last game was a good example but just knew it would happen.
He looked pissed and walked off slowly. But I watched him as he went to the bench and he was still honourable and shook Ricki's hand without any show of annoyance. He obviously has total faith in his coach. I just wish Ricki would have some more in him.
That would include re-signing him please!

Grumpy old bastard alert
Agreed he's not the quickest nor the strongest defensively, although think he has improved markedly in that aspect since he first joined the club.
BUT he creates a hell of a lot more than most, and in my eyes has improved by quite a bit over his early years of "step-over, step-over" tricks. Some of his passing lately has been sublime, especially in combo with Sanchez. Plus he can cross a ball that doesn't always come down with snow on it.

Pantelis is contracted for next season. Would love Pantelis and Daniel on the wings but won't happen unless Leo injures himself I would say.

"Daniel is also off contract at the end of the season and, after a long stint as a specialist benchwarmer, the 32-year-old seems to have a new lease of life playing alongside Sanchez.
The left-footed midfielder is one of five survivors from the inaugural Phoenix season in 2007-08, along with Mark Paston, Tony Lochhead, Tim Brown and Vince Lia, and, already a New Zealand passport holder, becomes eligible to play for the All Whites next month.
That is a massive boost to his chances of the club re-signing him for next season because he won't chew up an import slot."

That article is correct.. He's had a NZ passport (making him a local for A-League purposes) for a while but as others have said had to wait 5 years before qualifying for the AWs.
Haha yes.. Didnt read the article properly. Obviously the writer didn't either!

He may not make the greatest challenges or tackles, but at least he is getting back and trying to track his man.

It may well be correct in that when he was last signed he took up an import slot, and on becoming a citizen, the slot became vacant. And now he is a Kiwi, so he doesnt have to be as "good" as an import to be resigned
Think thats right
I hope he gets another contract with the phoenix. He always
seems happy to represent the club, puts on a positive front with the media and
from what I've seen on my visits to welly is a good ambassador of the brand to
the public young and old.
He may not be a league MVP or a 90 minute a week player for the club, but his
PR work and attitude is surely invaluable, esp if it rubs off on the younger
kids we want to become full time pros.
I think he needs a little more game time and must (surely) deserve to line up for the AW's this year sometime.
He still has much to offer. And I hope we re-sign him for another year or two.

I need more Daniel.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.
