I wish these two guys well. Perhaps we might see something so completely different than we are used to in a good way.

I'm remaining fearsomely optimistic until I have reason not to be.

New coaches have both decent-level European experience AND broad A-League experience. Rado must have just about every player in the league in his mobile.

And we've had a clearout. So they've got money to spend and foreign spots to use up. And we've kept some decent players too. And we've signed Singh.

The only way is up, baby!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

So this has been lined up since December?????

He couldn't do anything in those six months?

So have they just strung Des and Greenie along?

Does someone in the media have the balls to ask Dome some questions?

Patrick might ask them if you ask him nicely. He seems to have an avenue of approach.

This

I am really really happy with this appointment. He seems a no bullshark sort of guy..which is exactly what this club needs IMO. I hope he comes in and says to the players ""this is my method of playing football.....adapt or find another club." We have accepted mediocrity at this club for far too long. I especially like the idea of Vidosic as assistant. This guy knows the A-League inside out. I cant believe that some people wanted Greenacre retained....why reward failure? This clean out is well overdue

I suspect this guy will step on a few toes and offend some people.....who cares? as long as he is successful on the field. I hope they can also work on bringing some of the youngster through. We saw some good things from Singh, Rogerson, McGarryand Bell??? at the under 20 WC. They re far from the finished product but some of them could be good A-League players if they are handled correctly.

Hopefully they get the support form the owners that they need to strengthen the club. I don't  expect super marque players but if they can pick up three or four decent players who can enhance the style of football they want to play, then all the better.

Cautiously optimistic that better times are on the way.

I'm in two minds to be honest - happy that we signed someone, so that we can finally start recruiting and building our team for next season.

Not overly impressed by his coaching CV to be honest, but he does come with broad European experience and Rado knows the A-League inside-out. I am just worried that Darije comes across as someone who doesn't hold his tongue and I wonder how Nix management will react if and when he says tells the media he couldn't do better given the budget and playing squad given.

This being said, let's watch this space, see who they bring in (hopefully a couple of kick ass European imports) and see how next season goes!

EDIT: also worried by some of the shorter spells with clubs where he either left by his own accord or was let go.

So after 6 months of mediocre results from below mediocre coaches, we finally have a sense of direction and some hope at least.

With that hope I'm back

And can someone explain why we had to wait 6 months?

Dome today said the same thing everyone's been saying for the past six months - this guy wasn't going to be able to do anything in those six months, so why not see if what they had could. Turns out they couldn't, and they got their man.

Dome is saying they could have tried to get him out here in December, given he was unemployed, but they decided they've give Chris and Des a chance, because no new coach was going to be able to come in 10 weeks in and make massive changes. That didn't work out, and so they went through the process starting in April, and they ended up going with this guy, who was probably always the favourite.

That makes zero sense.  He would have had six extra months with the players to start imparting his system.  He might have had a different view on players or been able to convince some to stay.  if he'd had success he might have been able to attract aussies.  Instead we seem to have had half a season where Greenacre and Buckingham got to have a go...where they ever in the hunt for the full time gig?  If so, then was this guy really first choice?  If not, then what the hell was the whole half season about.  So bizarre

well, he could have done something in those 6 months - worked with players on a daily basis to get a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the squad; tried out tactics and formations; started to embed his own style in the team; got used to the long distance travel every second week; got to know opposition teams and how to approach them; started recruiting for next season.

The whole "that 6 months was a write off" argument is total bollocks.

so three months prep is better than 9 months prep ?

Do you not understand? We no longer have the luxury of time.   We can not afford a season to get up to speed

That's an argument you can make. Not sure it means anyone has been strung along (I'd be stunned if Des and Greenie aren't club employees come the start of the next season) or that anyone is lacking in balls.

I can't imagine they have zero doubts about the new guy, given what his record has been since he first applied here, so they are well okay having a look at what they had on the table and then deciding to act in April once it had shown to not be enough. The only major difference is that maybe pulling the trigger earlier leads to Moss and/or A-Rod being kept, and I don't think that's 'waiting is outrageous' territory. They probably also genuinely wanted to see what other options were out there come end season time.

It's a bad bit of messaging and it's hard to know what the point of saying it was, that and saying that he was second choice behind Merrick last time. On one hand they're talking up how great he is, on the other they're saying they had doubts enough to hire someone else last time and keep the pretty young and green assistants this time.

There were probably good and pragmatic reasons to go down the path that the Phoenix did but it does no good for the club or coach to talk about it.

However, I notice the people that are most angry about this are also the ones who are angry that the Phoenix aren't open enough so once again damned if do damned if don't.
