Maybe Darije realised there have been some real fudgeed up decisions made recently by management, was pissed off and wanted to join in the protest this weekend

And a chat was required

it wouldn't surprise me if this was part of roy's problem

and from the board's point of view, they have ripped the club to bits and fired some good people in support of their coach only to end up with more crap results and the coach making it clear that the players still aren't good enough

Crikey, could make a half decent soap TV drama with the amount of plot twists this club produces.

I'm guessing he has until the end of the season for Welnix to see an improvement, if not he's gone?

Why do people assume there are no other candidates. It's a stable job in a good league in a normal, western, English speaking country. Of course there would be loads of interest. Why is Darije here!

I still think the coach is right,  we have a lot of players and fringe players not up to the standards required.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

On the one hand, sacking DK now would work well IF they have a suitable replacement lined up (e.g. not a caretaker), so the new guy has a few games to properly look at his team and make decisions for next season.

If they don't have anyone lined up, they should keep him in charge and give him an opportunity to make his case until the end of the season.

I personally would like to see DK stay as I think he's a good coach. Won't go into too much detail as this has been recently discussed, but I struggle to believe he agreed on all those contract extensions before he was even officially on board.  The way I see it, Rado took care of a lot of that, and DK clearly would have gone a different way.  Were he to stay on for at least another season, he'd have an opportunity to really shape his team the way he wants it.  And historically, all of our coaches have done better in their second season (pretty difficult for this not to happen next year given how shark we've been this year...).

Bacause he has complete his Mark Hammett and screw the Nix over good and proper just like Hammett did The Hurricanes.

It would be crazy for management not to talk with the coach about the onfield performance. Everybody at the club has to be honest about their performance and find solutions. I hope he has the chance for another season to build a new, more successful team.

People worry that there are no targeted/identified candidates. I think this is fair as without a DoF I'm not sure how proactive the football committee is.

I'd be more than inclined to give him another season. Do I think he's done a good job? No. But hiring another coach now/over the off-season is just going to mean another year of chopping and changing and bedding in new on and off field systems. Fully expect us to be better next season (it would be hard to be worse) and he can fall on his sword next season if there is no improvement.

I've heard Darije is being told today that his services aren't required next season and that he is free to leave now. Interesting 180 from sacking Rado only a couple months ago.

Also wonder whether that was part of getting Krishna to extend for next season.

Probably plenty of candidates big thing tho is are they likely to be any good. We really can't be expecting much unless someone fancies a chaĺlenge.

Thing is according to Darije, there needs to be wholesale changes next year anyway so that's not an argument for keeping him.

For me, the biggest issue is he came in and said he wanted to win games 1-0.  Well we have defended awfully this season so I don't see much evidence of his style showing through on the pitch.  There have been a bunch of factors but the team look unhappy and there hasn't been much evidence of improvement during the season, even with the recruitment of "his" players

Don't really care if he stays or goes tbh. He's probably a decent manager, and I think we needed a bit of an authoritarian at the time he was appointed, which he seems to be, however he's brought in a few players who apart from an initial spark have turned out bang average.

I don't really see how he's going to turn it around so drastically for next season if he stays on considering we've regressed this season as it is.

I would like to see an improvement in our results, just like everyone here, and it might be the coach is not up to it. But at the same time, is an alternative view also possible, ie. that the club is about to shoot the messenger for sheeting home the unpalatable truth?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

what the hell is (or was ) going on? Sounds like an absolute farce of spat dummies from competing factions, from the start of the season up to now.

What I can add is that we look to have a decent squad for tomorrows game, so hopefully their attitude and team work is going to be better now and we can have something to watch!

No point compounding an error by keeping someone when it isn't working

Yet we've changed coaches/managers in the past, we've changed players, however we still have the same sharkhouse culture and results.  Clearly something else needs to change and if the club/board is to do that, then where is the case for getting rid of Darije as well? This smacks to me of short-sightedness on the part of the club and compounds the litany of idiotic decisions that have been made vis a vis coaches over the past 3 seasons.

Thing that worries me is the murky business of all the contract extensions and signings which seemingly went on prior to his arrival for this season. We have a lot of players coming off contract at the end of this season, and potentially no Coach. Which means we either offer contracts to players before the new guy arrives or hold off till he's here and hope for the best. This season has been an extensive waste of time, I'm not sure I want to be being told 2/3 of the way through next season, by another new Coach, that the players aren't good enough and that there have to be wholesale changes. If they're getting rid of him, they'd better be on the hunt right now for his replacement.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

If that's true it's a fudgeing disaster.  Either sack him now and proactively make an appointment or keep him on.  Another lost season, an off season of weird signings with no input from the manager, and a season where the manager spends the first 1/3 of the season working out what players suit him would be a calamity.

Sack him and bring Ramon on for the new season.

Greenacre can have the role til the end of the year

Ramon knows NZ football and if there is to be a clean out he is the best placed manager to know what kiwis locally might be worth a shot at the NIX. Also, he has shown to have a good scouting network, so would probably IMO find us better imports than what we have currently.

Finally, he has proven more than anyone, he knows how to get the most out of a team with a limited budget.

Are we not performing in line with our investment?

He looks like a tyrant, Scott Galloway looked like he was going to wet himself when he got dragged up off the bench last week, they must have known that when they appointed him.

That said, the club brought him here, they should give him another season, you cant do much with an inherited squad like ours in less than 12 months.

That's not an indication of what we spend on players' salaries.

Never suggested it was, it is an indication of player value.
