"That was me doing a favour for me friend," he said.

"After two premier league clubs you don't go to the fifth level in England. I was there only a couple of weeks to do a favour to my friend, one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the world, Raymond Verheijen, so more than that I cannot tell you."

I don't quite understand, he cant be talking about himself as he wasn't at 2 Premier League clubs was he? is he talking about

Verheijen?

I took it as English being his second language and equating the top division of a country to being the "premier league", he'd coached De Grafshap and Zulte Wargram, clubs in the top Dutch and Belgium divisions immediately before going to Stockport County.

You are correct, that is exactly how I understood his statement. It is nothing to do with EPL.  Many names of top Euro comps translate into English equally as Premier or as First, since the Latin root of "first" is, well, 'primus'.

For the same reasons"Prime Minister" in many countries is called the "premier" and that includes state government level in Australia.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

And the French word for First is 'premiére', a language which Belgium use. Multilingual gang, unite!

And getting them relegated to the 6th tier of English football.

Do that means we have to keep Rufer?

We should replace Galloway with Gully and Stevenson with Parkhouse, two non All Whites, we wouldn't be lower on the table.

rufer has been ok... one terrible game,  the other cameos have been fine.

Can we win the league with ‘ok’ and ‘fine’? Maybe he needs another year.

Players like PetRat and Terry Antonis were just 'ok' players when they were Rufer's age, but they got decent game time for their clubs and are now clearly a-league quality. I'm hoping Ridenton heads this direction, from what I've seen from Rufer he could as well.

Rufer is deserving of another contract and I think is a serviceable player who at 21, will hopefully continue to develop.

Personally, having seen his NZFC form this season I'd probably skip on Rufer.

Mind you I said the same when we re-signed Italiano so what would I know?

I've only seen 3 or 4 WeeNix games but thought Rufer was actually quite good. Often in space and picking good passes almost all of the time. Some very nice switches wide to Rogerson especially.

Certainly doesn't standout as much as Singh but I'd be giving him a contract. Also been reasonably impressed with his A-League performances this year. For me he's shown enough to have earned some more investment in his future.

Some people won't give Rufer  the time of day because of his name.

I suppose it depends what his issues were last season and if they're resolved or not.

Some people couldn't give a [edited] about his name but watch him play week in and week out and have some doubts if he's an A-League quality player.

I don't think Rufer has been given a fair enough shot yet to comment either way. I've been impressed with him at times, and not so impressed at other times. To me, he has better base attributes than Ridenton, but Ridenton has gotten more game time and thus become more consistent at A-League level.

Rogerson, though; I don't think he will ever be at that level. Have never seen anything out of him to suggest otherwise.

"The Covert Agent" account (part of Goal.com?) reckons Darije is facing the music from the board today.

I really wouldn't pay much attention to any such pages/accounts but have noted it was right about a couple of things during the transfer window. Will be interesting.

That Perth game, man was Rufer bad

Well, according to goal.com the board meeting was after training so we should be hearing something soon if it's true.

Who'd be caretaker? Surely Pot is Darije's man and hasn't been with the team long enough to be caretaker.

He was disappointing for the WeeNix vs Canterbury as well.

When they should have been fighting to hold a 2 goal lead he was wandering around like McGlinchey when playing a midfield role when as the experienced pro I would have thought he should be making an effort to shut down the Canterbury attackers and make a mark.

*BREAKING NEWS*

Darije has been seen this afternoon walking into Cash Converters with a 42” Samsung LCD under his arm.

More to follow.

Permalink Permalink

If they sack Darije and do not have a replacement for next season lined up (and I can't see how they would have) then he really is the only option.  His right hand man Pot is Darije's mate and been here less than a month, no one else has any experience running a first team.

Greenie and Paul Temple it would be.

It's why I suspect we'll spend two months with lots of conjecture that Darije is gone but he won't actually be sacked until season end because giving Greenacre the job for a third time would be just too funny.

Of course this does all assume there is any truth to the rumours out of occassionally unreliable sources in Aus.

Wot, this season? Nothing should surprise us anymore..

If  they get rid of Darije now it'd be a clusterfudge of the highest order (although not unprecedented). Not like there is a queue of high level coaches to replace him with so it'd be a case of replacing him because it's the thing to be "seen" to be doing. Sure, if you've got Arnie waiting in the wings go right ahead but we all know they don't so it's nonsensical. How many coaches over the past 3 years? Sheesh..

Cue "Ramon to the Nix" supposition in 5,4,3....

Permalink Permalink

There is literally no point in getting rid of him now. I imagine the meeting was more of a “we can’t continue down this road” bullshark roundtable. There is no one to replace him and we will be left in the same position as last year.

Surely they can't go from 'we're keeping Roy Krishna!' to 'we're getting rid of Darije' in one day? Surely they would deliver the more controversial news first.
