Don't think it should be too tough to get into the chant!!

End of the video on the FB live: Da-ree-eh Kar-lay-zich

You could just go for the first name or the second in the chant: Dar-ree-eh's Yellow Army

or both Darieh Karlayzich's Yellow Army!

Just the second requires a bit more work

our coach is da-ree-ah.our teams not much better. That should work.

Judging by some of the reactions here they managed to shank that almost immediately.

I do and will be supporting them as passionately as ever.

But support does not mean occasionally question oddball decisions made

"Hi Greenie, Domie here, just a heads up, we have decided to appoint Darije Kalezic as Manager and Rado Vidosic will be his assistant. We are very keen on having you continue with the club in role maybe looking after the acadamy.  We are doing some pressers next week, but we will get together and have a chat straight after"

Not hard to do for a guy who has been with the club for 7 years.

I'm assuming it was from that tweet from the Fox Sports guy a few weeks ago. Not ideal, but have to assume thats a leak from over there. Who knows how long after the contracts were signed was it posted.

Who will give me odds that Kalezić will quit in the next month or two, officially because of "personal reasons" but because no-one told him how deeply the club was screwed before he accepted the job?

I wil take you up on that offer as apparently Kalezic was the one who gave permission to Kosta to leave for P reasons.

David Dome however is sharp as a knife and would never wear that bollocks line

I am not sure I'd agree, Doloras.

Kalezic was in talks with Welnix for a long while.  If he has not been spooked by the licence uncertainty last year then he'll be fine with the rest. Personally I think the whole licence extension business and the assorted noise in the Australian media was more damaging to us regarding getting a decent coach (and players) than any other problems, imaginary or real.  Our financial stability is not one of them.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

The silence on the transfer front speaks volumes, though, as does the fact that virtually all our quality players of the last season got out while the getting was good (except Rossi and Krishna).

Darje said when he first arrived that they need to take their time with hiring as the Phoenix can't afford to make mistakes. The squad also isn't back together yet so he hasn't had a good look at what he's got.

There's also plenty of quality in the Phoenix it's a bit unfair to say that our only good players are Rossi and Krishna when we have players like WeeMac and Finkler. In fact losing Bonevacia probably strengthens the team as we had too many good players in that position and not enough quality elsewhere.

Permalink Permalink

I think you'd have a hard argument that either WeeMac or Finkler showed quality last season.

I think they did. Neither of them were consistent but a lot of that was down to injuries in McGlinchey's case, and us struggling to play Finkler in a position that suited him. When fit WeeMac had a few good games, and toward the end of the season Finkler occasionally showed his ability to control a game. He finished with 6 goals and 3 assists which isn't a bad return for an A-League #10. McGlinchey got 3 goals and 2 assists from just 7 starts and 6 substitute appearances. Neither of them were in peak form, but they definitely showed some quality.

I am hearing you, but - as I said elsewhere - Welnix are not known to splurge left right and centre, so I suppose Darije decided to make his hiring decisions carefully, and not until he has seen the (remaining) team on the park first-hand.  That is just my guess obviously.

Also this isn't Football Manager, there is no list of available players that you can just look at and sign from. Hopefully the club have had feelers out with agents to see who is available in positions we need and we can identify targets now that we have a Gaffer appointed.

So much this. This is the exact issue. Its not like you get an annual published guide of players off contract or wanting to go elsewhere and what they are worth. Its a lot of agent work. On the flip side, I am sure the Phoenix get a million enquiries from 'players' that would love an A League contract and were a goalscoring machine back in their own country (invariably in parts of Africa or South America)

You know that clubs use Football Manager data (directly or indirectly) as one tool to scout for players.

And Transfermarkt has a list of all off contract players. I don't know how accurate it is but if you just filter for kiwis and Aussies there's not that many to trawl through

Those don't tell you if a player has been told they can search for another team etc. Hopefully Darije & Rado know some good agents and they can bring us some quality options who are preferably single and not afraid of earthquakes.

I thought that in UEFA countries at least clubs can't prevent players in their last 6 months of contract from talking to other clubs

Those tools can allow the club to be more proactive or if they receive a DVD of a Serry De Campos they can better evaluate the seriousness of the offer. It's not the be all and end all but a tool to compliment other means, many clubs use these tools seriously.

In the last 6 months players can talk to other clubs but there are always players on the outer at clubs, who have multi years left in their contract.

Oh I know teams use them but I'm just saying that identifying targets, evaluating them, finding out what they are like from other sources etc takes time. Darije can't be expected to hit the transfer market as soon as he sits down at his desk when appointed. Im sure people see that Ernie has made some signings since being appointed but other than Moss, I think most would have been in the pipeline when he took over tbh.
