See where you're coming from but I'm a little more comfortable taking Adelaide's hand me downs than if we took some other A League Club's. I'll give him the benfit of the doubt till I see him in black but I'd kind of like someone with a little better pedigree.

I think its a good start in our recruitment drive. He clearly is A-League quality and now we need those strikers to complement him. Good start.

I was going to say 11.528 but I think you might be just a little more correct!

Funny that Diego's only goal so far has come at the ROF (last season). It was a scrappy goal, a header from a corner came off the bar and he nodded it in.

Maybe he can add a few more to his tally at the ROF.

This is someone who'll be able to run at defenders and I can see him taking some of our chances from ferrante area and actually converting them.

I'm quite excited now. :)Michael2009-01-23 18:03:10

Based on the rumour that Diego was on his way to the Nix I trolled the Adelaide fans forum and the common view was that he is a very good player and the fans were disappointed they would be losing him. The only concern, with Diego, expressed was that same as the reason stated for Adelaide letting him go - he is injury prone.

He is obviously a real talent and, if fit, will add plenty to the Nix next season. As an aside I think Daniel will benefit more than most by having Diego join the team - I think you almost need to play Brazilian's (fair players) in pairs as they read each others game so well and feed off each other. I think Daniel was a better player when we had Filipe.

Congratulations to Tony and Ricki on getting a key recruitment banked so early.

Welcome to the Nix Diego.

Don't rate him. Never stands out on the pitch. If an attacking mid doesn't stand out on the pitch then you know they aren't very good. Has been in the A-League for a few years now and hasn't dominated at all. If he didn't have a Brazilian name (people need to stop calling him Brazilian btw - he's American) I don't think people would rate him as much. Was good in the ACL but that is it.

Decent squad player I guess. Kind of sick of getting other clubs rejects.

Maybe i'm just a bit harsh but I don't think that signing other clubs hand me downs will ever push us forward in the league.

Exactly

I hope so too.

Nice to have a signing, but 8 games this season and injury prone.
I guess I just wanted Fred and he won't be coming by the looks of things.

As opposed to having two Brazilians on the field, I think there'll be much more of what we saw this year when Fred was here. Daniel the super sub. Unless he pulls finger

you obviously don't watch many Adelaide games do you.  always, if he starts we play good football, when he gets subbed off every game WE PLAY FKN sh*t. your sh*t.
you don't have to score/setup many goals to be a good player, hes not a striker.. he controls the midfield very well. you guys will love him there grrrrr. he wanted to stay here but fkn vidmar... vidmar.... I WANNA HIT THAT GUYS HEAD WITH A HAMMER!

I might be stating the obvious here, but couldn't most,if not all, of our players be called "other club's rejects"?

If we suddenly sign Chris Killen tomorrow, why would that happen? Cos he'd be a Celtic reject.

We either break all the rules, salary cap etc to offer all sorts of inducements to players to come here, or we sign players who are being released by other clubs.

What would the people who say "we don't want other teams hand me downs" suggest we do?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Good signing IMO.
The fact that he has quite a bit of experiance in the A-League is a major bonus. He should settle into the Phoenix quite quickly. The risk of having a player new to NZ and the A-League is that they can often  never settle into the style of football or lifestyle in this part of the world.
Diego is another important piece of a new attacking format for the Phoenix. Any signing that seriously adds to the depth in the squad is a good signing.
Can't wait to see who will be the next player coming in.

Two Brazilian attacking midfielders behind our two strikers.

I attend to agree with Valeo that Diego is only a squad player although I think he is a good signing Am I right or wrong in saying that if he was that good that Adelaide would not have released him and also didn't Adelaide sign him as a left back then when Jamison came onto their playing roster Diego was pushed into left midfield and wasn't playing regularly so, how does that make him an attacking midfielder when he was originally signed as a left back
