Tony said on Radio Sport that we are working through another contract with Doddy.

SIGN THIS MAN UP. He has been one of our most consistent performers (expect in midfield), scores vital goals (well one), is a good team man, and is a real pro who wants to see his team do bloody well.

I know some people think he's lacking in the skill dept - but I disagree - didnt you see him almost go on a couple of coast to coasts the other night?!
He is bloody solid in the air too.

He is a MUST re-sgin in my book.

Yes, a special thread, a special deal, a pay rise...
He's already got the best personal chant from YF as well.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Greene... you still trying to build some bridges ?

Plenty of discussion on transfers and signing in lots of other threads though Feverish.

The two most common exclaimations I make at tele during Phoenix matches:

"Nice work, Doddy!"

and:

"Get rid of the f**king thing, Dodd!"

I'd be lost without him. Please sign him immediatly.

PS Oi Oi, still waiting for your player ratings for the season....

Who let the Dodd out? A classic chant! Yes to signing him up for another two years.

He reminds me of a Ford Escort I used to own. It wasn't the flashest or the prettiest car in the world, it certainly wasn't the fastest and occasionally it used to do strange things which scared the sh*t out of me, but it usually did what I wanted it to, nothing more and nothing less.

Karl Dodd is our Ford Escort. He has to stay.

p.s. Had to get rid of the car in the end, rusted and fell to bits!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Sign him up! With a "never play at DM" contract clause...

If it wasn't for him Joel Griffs wouldn't be thinking about going to China-

they offered him a role in a kung fu film to try to seal the deal...

Dodd is awesome. Great to see the competition between him Dura and Siggie and fantastic to have players of that quality in the squad.

He's a great player.  Need him in the squad.  It really is touch and go as to who has the CD spots with only Sigmund being nearly assured of the spot.  Add to that, whenever one is suspended/injured we have a brilliant person to step into their position.

as well as clauses agreeing, no dribbling within 15m of an opposition striker, number 23 on penalty takers list, a quota of 4 yellow cards per regular season and Tony P has to approve hair cuts.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Add to that, no back-heels, EVER.

Agree with general sentiment that Dodd should be resigned. The recruiting list is long enough without also having to get more cover at CB and we would be hard pressed to find anyone better then Dodd.

Get him signed and get it done quickly.

I dont expect that many of you will agre with me on this but over the last two seasons apart from the blip at playing defensive midfielder(please god dont let him play there again) and the occassional testing of mossy's prowess  for me Doddy has been the most consistent player we have had in the side, maybe not as skilful as some but when a striker needs to be stoped then he's your man....resign him and do it now!!!

Yea I agree in terms of consistency. He's a reliable team man who does his job, nothing more nothing less. Definitely worth keeping.

Would I sign him if he was a new recruit - NO

Would I re-sign him - probably but very price dependent - it is a buyers not a sellers market. I'd have no hesitation in letting him go if he overplayed his hand in contract negotiations.

Why would I re-sign him, subject to price, - because the backline has figured out how to operate as a cohesive unit and getting in a new centre back means developing again the understandings that have developed. Our defense was good last season - the less change the better - unless it is very obviously adding a much better player (e.g. new DM).

It would also mean the recruitment focus could be on what is most important - finding 2 good strikers.

happy to see him go? get your facts right. If he leaves Welly he won't be going he'll heading towards you.

And figure out your affiliations. You would seem to be prime GCU supporter material.

I can sum Dodd up by saying he plays in gumboots and blinkers
Seriously, some of you guys are funny, not in a good way though.
So i "Hate our centre back". Really? . Thats a strong word to use.
I don't support players blindly, thats all.
You question my affiliation because I think you are quite small minded.
Youve got this us and them aussie kiwi thing going, havn't you.
Who cares if hes given two years of his best. ( and how do you know that anyway?)
If best isn't good enough which in my opinion it isn't, then see ya Dodd

Unfortunately you haven't come up with a realistic replacement. In the current stuation just calling for him to be ditched seems rather stupid.

I think you are missing the point. I don't anyone is questioning that he is doing his best.I am sure he is. The fact is that he is NOT up to this league.

cos you said so in a post on the net? or because why?

I'm going on putting in the leg work, attitude, effort, kung-fu drop kick styles, motivational speaking, being a great big bastard, and etc...(etc being the most persuasive)

if you think he's not up to it waiting to hear why...

he's had at least as good a season as Dura...

I think Dodd is a very very agricultural player and reminds me alot of Peter Halsted. Just to look at both of them move, they are not a footballers asshole and in fairness, have all the graces of a soaring rhinoceros.

That said, they are both very effective. You ask them to do a job, they do it. Doesn't matter how he looks doing it, he does it. Sure Dodd has some deficiencies and has some brain explosions, but by and large, he does succeed a lot more times than he fails.

(As long as Dodd does not play in the midfield)

Better the devil you know, etc. Anyway, as pointed out, the defence is not a huge area of concern - it's further up the park we need to worry about.

btw, the comment that Dodd is not up to A League standard is ridiculous.

We signed Durante and McKain as hot shot centre backs and ended the season with Dodd and Siggy as centre backs, McKain in the midfield and Durante on his arse.
Moss said Dodd was the rock and the best defender
Says it all really

Auskiwi clearly doesn't support the Nix so why get on here and insult a player that has the respect from other players?
