karl dodd may not be the best defender in the world or even the A-league but he certainly has played as well as most of the other centre backs in this league and I for one think that the phoenix defence is far better with him than without....sign him up and then we can forget about this thread and concentrate on matters at hand,,,namely strikers!!

I actually thought he had a much better season this year. He certainly cut out a lot of the mistakes from last season. I can think of only that back pass in the last game. But then mossy should not have handled the ball. He could have headed it away. Still, they didn't score anyway.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Moss is many things but a giraffe he isn't and he'd have needed to be a giraffe to get a head to Dodd's back pass.

Still agree Dodd was better this season and he wasn't that bad last year in a back four usually consisting of two muppets.

Getting a bit concerned his contract negotiations seem to be dragging on and I'm all for getting him back on board.

I can tell him it's not worth it!

spicy food....! low crowds...having to play Jade North and Sash Ogendowhatsit, and the Korean players are often quick with their feet, and he won't get the same licence that Aussie refs allow...

which club???

He would be hopeless in Asia as he is not sharp enough.

I can't believe I am going to say this but I agree we can do better than Dodd. I quantify that with we could do better on most signings. We sign player x, we could have tried harder to get player y etc.

For Frankie Macs benefit I can't name names but I think if we did resign Dodd, I would be happy with that as he has played well for us. I think that would be a good move in team solidity and showing teams we can keep our players especially as we have not gotten a license extention so hard to sign players past 2 years.

I dont doubt that Dodd is a good team player and has determination etc...he gives his all every match but lacks majorly in the skill department ......Glad you have agree that we can do better than Dodd

Don't put words in my mouth.
I agree we can do better than Dodd based on my statement "I quantify that with we could do better on most signings. We sign player x, we could have tried harder to get player y etc"

Its always been the case with the Australian football franchise based in NZ. Specifically in the A League, Adshead trumpeted this team in S1 as being a footballing side and then admitted they under estimated that standard and wouldn't get caught again. They rolled out a team in S2 that was billed us being much better and while they were better (debatable) it was still poor.
We started S3 with a much improved team and they assured us they would have a better team in S4, which they did. They are making the same noises for S5 so based on that, yes we can always sign better players than the ones we have/had.

As for the merits of Dodd, an agricultural player, but it works for him as a centre back. Get him on the books.

Yeah he has. Although I accept that (after doing research before opening gob) that he is a recognised centre back.

I am wrong.

I understand that dodd is not the most cultured of center-backs but then do we need one. Dodd does a solid job at the back, makes the odd mistake(dont they all) but we would be a poorer team without him. Also I dont see too many even half decent centre-halfs in the A-league  so would that mean having to find another overseas player??

I've said it many times before on various postings, he's the best central defender we have in the squad and the most skillful footballer in that position we have.  I could never understand why he has been rubbished by so many people.

He may be the best central defender we have, but that does not mean that he is up to the standard. If we all think he is up to standard, then maybe we should raise the stsndards and next season improve our league standings.

Seems like a standard answer.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I can see how Ross A, as a former team mate and captain with A-League, and International experience can be less qualified than you to comment on Dodd's ability
