IMHO it seems to me as two different footballing cultures, you could almost here a pommy accent in "same old bastards, always cheating" and other chants and then the south american drums.
And there are lots of different cultures in football in getting behind your team, chanting, fireworks, music whatever. At the moment its new and we can't say that one is right and the other is wrong. Over time you may find a unique culture form.

i see your point and after reading the rest of the opinions ,have to agree, everyone supports in a different way, maybe it will just take a little getting used to and to give them credit they didn't stop drumming all afternoon so well done

Very good point. How you were making sense at 1:40 I have no idea :P
But personally I wasn't a fan of the drums. Sure before the game and at half time, maybe even work them into a few chants, but didn't like them constantly going. Didn't give it a "Football" atmosphere to me...

).

Oh and get them wearing yellow. So the South Americans on other teams don't get the wrong idea who they're there for

We're Forever Causing Trouble

It'd work if they drummed to fit in with the chants etc, not just constantly bang away.
)twas a good chant too! it wouldve been alright if they hadn't just kept going with the same beat the whole time, they could've mixed it up and taken loooong breaks, i sort of felt the chanting was lost in the drums and we were competing against them.
I vote for the drums but I think it will take some time for us to develop a Phoenix fan culture that is uniquely our own.
We are in a great place because we can pick all aspects of football culture and Wellington/NZ culture and mash them up to create something very powerful.
Remember also most NZers are used to dour rugby matches where the crowd response is pre-packaged (stupid music at breaks in play etc)- they are not used to making their OWN fan culture.
I in no way want to see pre-packaged fan culture. The fan culture belongs to us.
However I think the drums can work - It will just take some time to gel.
Respectfully,
Barca.
Perhaps they can learn the chants and play in time to them so that it gets the crowd going!

I am in Dunedin, without sky tv, so had to make do with updates on this site- until a mate rang me from the game (and I am sure, from the noise, right in the midst of the Yellow Fever area!)- sounded brilliant, and looked great on the tv news. Some good postings on youtube as well give a good idea of the noise you were all making. Brilliant stuff!
A dog with a bone :)
just one bass drum or a couple smaller ones around us could help.
as for the drummers at the game, they were pretty average. if they over the otherside of the stadium thats fine by me
Those drums have just got to go.........I've got a season ticket over in aisle 18 and desperately wanted to join in with all the YF chants but was unable to lock in on the first few words in time because of the noise of the drums.......they sounded like a demented bunch of 3 year olds bashing cr.p out of a saucepan without any of it relating to what was going on on the pitch....we want to improve the football culture and that normally happens when crowds get together to chant....unfortunately I found that most non footballing kiwis sit back with there arms crossed and say "go on, entertain me".....the drums fit in with that ethic....maybe they'd be OK over the other side of the ground, but not so close that they drown out everything and only if they learn to bash the damn things at the appropriate moment with the action!!!!!!
Type in the words os fanaticos
See what is possible...

Check it out before judging too quickly...
Maybe we need a drum or not to drum poll

Is there anyway to get in touch with the drummers? Have a word with them, once or twice they seemed to get it right, but I agree with most of the comments, they were real annoying for most of it.
One thing I didnt know until I spoke to the flatties is apparently the sound from our place on Mt Vic was amazing, apparently the drums sounded fantastic and then there was the low level chanting as well, they said their jealously levels were high and for anyone not in there, the sounds coming out where as enticing as the smells from a bakery... so yeah... lets just call it atmosphere! We have Brazilians in our team, lets embrace it! Also, if people want to get hold of the drum guy, he has a thread under "chants"....
