It's only pre-season, still working on combos. Settle team, settle.

This is the first time I have listened to a Piney call, and he really is amazing. So much better than Dewhurst, cheers Piney!

Richters sounds like he's been playing very well, sign him up!

Guess this shows that even though Brisbane have lost some of their better players, they are still title contenders.

Please don't confuse him with Jonty Richter

LOL Yes please no confusion with that man

What the f*ck do you mean there is no need for hard tackles against Brislamabad?

Should be 5-1, sounds like we are lucky Mayer put that to the side of the goal.

Maybe we need another cd now along with a striker and a creative midfielder?

Always look on the bright side of life!!!!!

Ok 1-5 is the mother of all hidings but it is preseason(clasping at any straw)

But the reality is the Roar are the A-League benchmark and this game showed we are well short of that benchmark. If we keep wasting possession by pumping it forward and if we don't get some creativity from the midfield then we will be lower/mid table battlers.

We really have to get more tactically savvy. If you keep giving away posession to a side like Brisbane then you will spend large parts of the game chasing them.

As for the trialists..... a big pat on the back to Rigter for taking the field after a 40hour flight. Sounds like he might be an OK signing. Sanchez didnt do much. mehmet must be pulling his hair out....how you are meant to impress in 45 mins when you don't see any ball!!!!

But to me the problem is not going to be who to sign upfront....we could sign David Vila but it would not do any good. Unless we can find some creative spark through the midfield it will be a tough season.

I hope  that the people who were predicting that we would have the best team in the league with the best players are laying in big quantities of tomato sauce to season the feast of their own words they now have to eat.

keeping ball in possession has always been an issue with nix. We NEED a decent attacking midfielder who can spray around passes, make smart runs and hold the ball. On other note, defence looks shaky at the moment. Hope it gets better. Bring on the coast!! Ankit2011-08-20 20:23:03

That Rojas kid might have done...

If we sign a couple of decent strikers perhaps it frees up Ifill to perform this role?

+1

I think this result has backed up what many of us have been saying for a while... we need some massive signings to not get the spoon this season and with Kewell having now joined the league the gap between the haves and have nots has only increased.

How did Sanchez do? Guess he wasn't making much of an impact by the sounds of things.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Yes, that was rather amusing. Always good to hear Piney and whoever his sidekick of the day is.

I had hoped that Roar would be not quite the team they were last season with some notable departures, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

As for us - well we clearly have a bit more work to do and more combinations and trialists to try out.

Wonder why we didn't get Warner on the pitch after the first half (or did Pasty change his boots)?

Also actually we have 7 weeks to go.

Just back from the Longroom. Cheers Smithy, Liz, KiwiHatter, I-I-iffy, Grandadi, and all the other YF faithful in attendance. Nice meeting you all.

Obviously not the result we wanted on the field but very satisfied at the efforts made which pushed the match attendance past a very impressive 15,000 milestone.

I'm very proud to have been involved in three record attendances in NZ football history now - 35,194, 32,792, and now 15,037. These numbers mean a great deal to me.

Great job everyone. And hope the 'Nix can build by the start of the season or it could be a long one.

What can i say? Aside from the result and the way we played, stunning day. Real pleasure to meet some folk on here. I'm awful with names and faces so I'm not even gonna try.

Crowd big but quiet in general and I suppose its the number the NZF and WPX management look at, so in that repsect, incredibly pleasing.

What can be said has been said and I can not speak highly enough of the players and management for thier availibility and everything over the last couple of days.

And a special ackonwledgement to Ahmad, who has done as much, if not more than most for this game. Quite possibly more than those whos job it is to do what hes done.

I know its important to keep as many games in Welly as possible but I'd love to see them back.

This is the largest official crowd attendance for a Phoenix pre-season A-League fixture. Galaxy game was higher but played within the season.

It's always by far the biggest paid attendance for any football game in Dunedin. ahmad2011-08-20 23:42:17
