First of all interviewing someone like Robson is very different from offering someone like Robson the job. A guy with Premier League Managerial experience is not someone who we can turn our nose up at, but I still have faith that the ultimate selection will come down to the best person for the role as opposed to the most well known.

Swarley - you talk of Robson taking unfancied Middlesborough to 2 cup finals but also getting them relegated, and I think that the relegation is the key part of that.  That 'boro team had Ravanelli, Juninho, Emerson all playing for them amongst others, so should really have had no problems amassing 40 points over a season.  From what I remember of the cup runs they beat Chesterfield in the semi final of the FA cup and were totally outclassed by a pretty average Chelsea team in the final.  Not the greatest achievement in the world.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

He did indicate he would be keen but did he apply? Or was he waiting to be asked.

Purely judging from his tv commentary, I wouldn't want him. Not very insightful.

I would probably say that even you are more insightful than Robbie Slater.

I would say thats a margin call. I'm no Slater fan but having seen some of TVs posts..... Mind you, TV could well be Robbie Slater such is the similar lack of insight.

Oh the irony. You and nufc could open your own football pundits hotline. How is your avatar by the way? Obviously I've gotten under your skin. Hardly makes me irrelevant when you can't post anything remotely football intelligent.

Firstly don't put me in the same sentence as him. He's just a bored kid. Purely on here to antagonise people...

Hardly gotten under my skin. Was just a silly avatar I put up in ref to your shower joke when you seemed a good mood for once. Fleeting I see.

I've posted plenty of intelligent comments over the years. You wouldn't notice because you're full of your own self importance.

Ok but right now he's out of work, his coaching career is non-existent (he hasn't managed for 2 years).  That's not to say he might have decided that's it for him, but if he is keen to revive his coaching career then this is probably a good opportunity.  English speaking, relatively high profile, works for 6 months of the year.  Of course it's not about the money for him, it's about getting the opportunity.

What's he doing right now, probably playing a lot of golf and reliving his glory days.  may not be that satisfying...

Possibly.....but Robson would seem to me someone that Sydney would hire.

Also there might be health issues why he has not coached recently...he was apparently operated on for cancer near the end of his stint in Thailand

I'm not sure why we would look at a guy that's not been coaching for two years.

I think we should probably look at him, and then potentially rule him out because he hasn't been coaching for two years (maybe). No seriously considering any option would be a bit silly, I think.

Oh I'm not advocating for him, I think his record as a coach is average even if he has coached at a high level.  Just pointing out why it might appeal to him.

As I've said he's employed as a Global Ambassador for ManU. Can't seeing him give that up for one last tilt at managing a problematic A-league side..

Thread overview:

  1. Using advanced mathematics (eg: 1+2=7) someone names a potential application.
  2. Using less advanced logic (eg: he's shit because...) others disagree.
  3. Using non-existent mathematics (doh!) next potential applicant named.
  4. Refer step 2.

Are we there yet?

you know it's true, we'll be happy when he's named, happier when he names his squad, then a little angsty about one or two of his picks and then stoked cos we've had an awesome preseason and then who the hell knows what will happen.
