ok here's some angst- are we aspiring to be a cheaper, shiter Sydney?

Or something more than that....

I thought we were trying to be something like a CCM meets Brisbane Roar under Ange. Cheap club, successful possession based football. Which is pretty. It has to be pretty. And also win.

Possession based football is officially no longer cool following the Champion's League semi-finals. We should be aiming for ruthless Germanic efficiency now if we want to stay on the cusp of tactical trends. :P

The thing I'm going to miss most about Ricki was his comments about transfers "we are in deep discussions with a quality forward / player from Europe etc"... that almost never came true.

Every year I got excited only to wane off as time ticked by for him to mention it again.

I will miss you ricki and your cock tease signing rumours.

Hopefully the new manager does what he says he will do... whoever he is and whenever we actually find out.

The new manager will get to bring in one player for the only available import slot then pick through the dregs of all the aussie players dumped by there clubs over the last few weeks...not much excitement there.
The real fun and games will come in the following season where there will be Ifill, Waffles and Totori all coming off contract. Then we will see the manager building his team.

This is pretty much why I reckon we're going to see someone from Aus or NZ pick up the reigns. International coaches often want to bring international players in. In this case though its going to take someone familiar with discarded Australian has-beens and journeymen to make a decent go of this season.

Even with a flash new coach we are going to start the new season with team very similar to the one that finished the last season

Try this

            Moss

Muscat   Dura  Siggy   Locky

      Lia   new import

            Hernandez

Ifill     Brockie    Stein

Seven of these players are 30+ years old. The new coach is going to have work some magic to get these guys into the top two. It is not necessarily a bad team but it is not the quickest/youngest team in a league where pace has become more important. Looks like a team that has a solid midtable look with quite a few players with old legs. Should beat the lesser teams but will struggle against the top sides. But who knows...maybe some of the youngsters will kick on under a new coach and Hernandez could really ignite the attack.

Right, I have thought about this.

If you are so 100% confident that you are right then you name whom this Aussie head coach will be in the next 24 hours BEFORE there is any comment in the press/media or release from the club (otherwise its easy to say 'its him')

If you are right, I won't post in any of football related threads until the first kick of the new season (basically off topic only) which some people will delight in. If you are wrong, you take the same walk (which would delight everyone).

I want to see if you are full of shit like pretty most people think you are or can put up.

Come on Mr Big, what say thee?

I don't know who exactly it will be. My source just said it will most likely be an Australian.

Yesterday you posted "I can confirm the new coach will be an Aussie.". Today you have backtracked and said that it will 'most likely' be an Aussie. How are we supposed to trust you?

Personally I'd bet on a Brit if it's not a Kiwi. Am I right or am I right?

Does nobody listen to the podcast? If anything, this weeks one is worth listening to just for the interviews from the awards.

slippery slope...

Ernie Merrick's....got a lot of fans to win over and never gunna be a kiwi? Though I guess it's the Andre Lemanis theory- bring in a guy the best players will come and play for and who can coach now and you'll get wins....
