It's probably a restaurant.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Plodder has signed for quite possibly the silliest named club I've heard of, the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the North America Soccer League for two years according to today's Herald

Are they Div 1 or 2?

According to wiki the....
"USSF Division 2 (USSF D-2)[1] is a temporary professional soccer league created by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) in 2010 to last just one season. The twelve-team league was formed as a compromise between the feuding United Soccer Leagues (USL) and the North American Soccer League (NASL). USSF D-2 will form the second tier of the American and Canadian soccer pyramids below Major League Soccer."

It all sounds strange. why would you set up a professional league for just one year???

To stop the second tier pro teams forming an American football (soccer) equivalent of the rebel Indian cricket League.

Historically it has been common in American team sports for franchises to break away from the NBL/NHL/AFL etc and form their own renegade leagues.

Soccer America is trying to stop this here with the temp league.

See current userpic for agreement

Actually I think it's great that they're bringing back the old Rowdies name and colours. The NASL Rowdies were one of the better run teams with great support. Hopefully they can capitalise on that past to develop a strong future. (And hopefully New York Red Bulls will take not....stupidest name in sports EVER!)

Also I'll elaborate on disco_mart's explanation. The rebel league had already formed, with many teams breaking off from USL1 to form the new NASL. Caused a bit of chaos so USA Soccer stepped in and forced them to merge for one season so as to not have second tier football scrapped entirely for a year. It was basically done to buy everyone involved more time to come to an arrangement that suits everyone.

And what happens next season?

Bit early to tell. I imagine they'll stay with a single second division, with the difference being how much autonomy it receives from USA Soccer and how much control the individual team ownerships have on the league. That being said, they could be fighting over a dud - the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps are both getting "promoted" to MLS in 2011 anyway, leaving Austin as the only Western USA team (and Minnesota if it eventuates). Lack of national footprint - two of the leagues 3 powerhouses (Vancouver and Portland, Montreal being the third) = a much weaker league, much less attractive to sponsors.

Another option that popped up before the whole thing was that MLS was considering buying the entire second tier and reforming it as the MLS "farm league", similair to the AHL is to the NHL. Basically a reserve league, except promoting itself as a somewhat independant club - ie if Vancouver gets a farm team in Edmonton, it'll promote itself as "Edmonton Aviators Football Club" rather than "Vancouver Whitecaps Reserves". MLS will certainly be keeping an eye on the whole situation and may make such a proposition in the months to come.

Wow, seems very very messy.  Hopefully they sort out an appropriate solution

I think it's a bit of a shout out to The Queensland Lions/Brisbane Lions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queensland_Lions_Soccer_Club). They wouldn't be able to be called the Lions anymore because of the AFL team.

IIRC, the Roar is the same organization as the NSL's Brisbane Lions. They don't use the Lions name because they allowed the AFL's Brisbane Bears to rename themselves as such when they merged with the Fitzroy Lions.

We solved that problem year ago with the Kingz, all they needed to do was called themselves the Brisbane Lionz. easy!

Bit more than a shout out.

Quaansland Lions "won" the right to be the A-League team over the Strikers and were the base for the new franchise (ie: Richlands).

Thats all gone a bit to brown squishy stuff now tho as they try to get a little more ownership and inclusion across Brisvegas. Dodgy Dutchies! :p

Musa for another LB option. He is an impressive athlete.

I'm impressed with all those people who spruiked Musa as the Next Big Thing, cried when he got dropped, said "I told you so" when he went to Fulham, and studiously don't comment when he comes back and has to begin again at a level down.

The epic Felipe according to wiki is at Guarani de Palhoça a Brazalian club in the Caterinense 1 league whatever that is. I cannot make head or tail about how their league structure works.  I think it's a state in Brazil so it's a state league. His homeground has a capacity of 3000.

Clerberson kissed some ref, (Does anyone remember this?), and vanished from wiki and therefore planet earth around 2008 after playing for American Football Club another Brazilian team.

I would imagine he's retired now at 35.

Import slot sign Felipe I say.
